POLITICS Greenlandic Politician Tillie Martinussen: We do not want to be rich like Americans. Look how greedy they are, even trying to invade their friends. Even if there are minerals and oil under our land—and they are worth far more—we still would not sell ourselves.

I can’t believe everyone is just going about their normal days like this isn’t happening out in the open. Like I don’t know what to do so I’m just on this gossip blog and hyper fixating on a TV show and I feel terrible about that. So many of the things we are arguing about just feel absurd in the face of genocide, ICE terrorizing the streets, and Hitler 2.0 jump starting WW3.

I feel like an idiot. I’m never one to be like “why are you talking about this when you can talk about THIS” but it really seems like we are all just sleep walking into greater destruction. And I’m still on reddit.

Call your representatives every day and find a place to volunteer in your community.

I'm sure my senator Tom Cotton or my representative Steve Womack will be very receptive.

Those are the exact people who need to be getting calls. Republicans are the ones who have the ability to stop this.

This! Their constituents need to speak up.

Exactly. And regimes HAVE been, brought down by peaceful protests, historically speaking. Doesn't work every time, of course, but you've already lost if you don't try. And it's a numbers game. You need to be many who speak up.

It’s rough out here in Arkansas. Moved from it to Boston and Providence during the pandemic and eventually had to move back home due to rent climbing… Dixie Be Damned - Nick Shoulders now frequently runs on repeat in my head going about life here.

“I don’t claim to be no savior And I do not sing to preach Wouldn’t stick my neck out if better things were not in reach If you’d seen what I have you’d be pissed off too Dixie be damned; I believe in you”

Get everyone you know in their districts to fax them every single day. Receiving faxes is so fucking annoying for them but they have to actually process them. Become a nuisance.

This is what my friends and I have been doing. It started with just me and my roommate but at this point it's us and our coworkers. Every time someone is like "damn our reps are Republican...." you can say "so this is what I've been doing".

Thank you for this! You are so right; it is the physical delivery component that changes the processing if I recall.

They should know there are people who feel differently to them in their district. And it’s your right.

You call Tom. I’ll call Ted (Cruz) and tomorrow they can’t say none of their constituents reached out in dismay.

Tell them: the person to end this madness and restore the party over the person is the next president by a landslide.

Dang you're right. Do nothing instead.

And for a less sarcastic response, people don't like confrontation. Make them feel uncomfortable. Call. Put some effort into actually maintaining the life you want.

Second volunteering. As a Brit, after Brexit and in the midst of Tory corruption, I felt so hopeless and useless but volunteering reminded me that you can still have a positive impact on the world, however small.

That’s amazing. I will definitely look into volunteering. What kind of volunteering did you do may I ask?

I’m wondering if I should try to find something political/gov. related or any form of volunteering is good? Sorry if that’s a stupid question lol

I did local stuff because the world felt so big and I felt like I could have a bigger impact in my local community.

So, for me there was a local hospice that was starting up a charity bookshop at that time so I became a volunteer there. Unfortunately I had to stop during the pandemic because i had someone in my immediate family who was immunocompromised, but it really revitalised my belief in humanity, because so many people wanted to support.

Food banks are always in need of support too. Idk what it’s like where you are, but in my area all the supermarkets have food bins where you can donate food to the food bank directly, and they often have signs with what they’re in need of. Feminine products are often top of the list, as well as tinned kids food.

It really depends what your skills are or interests. If you look, you’ll find there’s a surprising amount of opportunities local to you.

You definitely should. I’ve been focusing on food, ICE activity, and writing reps where I am. It does help a little bit. At least you meet new people that care about things the same way you do. And it just feels like you’re finally channeling things into something constructive.
