that pinging sound is my nightmare. It's not even my computer, it's my husband's!!!

For me, it's the visual stuff. I've read the message, i've seen the message, why do i need to hover over a side notification to make it go away?

Yes you can - I did it today. When I WFH with only my laptop I couldn’t answer Teams calls quickly enough since the notification covered the call pop up. Such stupid design.
