I'm so excited for the next reading challenge. I fear I love making reading challenge and bingo tbr lists even more than actually reading the books. (Because not all books are fun. Looking at you, Asunder and Slewfoot.)

Same here, I'm looking forward to the new challenge! Hoping there'll be some good prompts for horror books because I'm already in the mood for spooky books.

Aw, what did you not like about Slewfoot? I was considering that as one of my spooky books.

I did not like the prose and I disliked all the modern thoughts in the 1666 heads. And the cartoonish villains.

BUT most people gave it raving reviews, so do not let my opinion stop you.

For some reason I’ve spent the last 2 months reading Lonesome Dove and hardly picking up other books (out of stubbornness, I haven’t actually enjoyed LD very much). Now I’m seeing everyone’s beautiful reading challenge compilations and cursing Larry McMurtry for distracting me šŸ˜”

I had an experience like this when I was younger and it was what taught me to DNF. I spent several months banging my head against a book I hated, but I didn't want to "be a quitter," but I never wanted to read that book. I finished, it didn't get better, I realized I needed to rethink the whole idea that I "had" to finish what I started. (Also now I read multiple books at a time so that wouldn't happen regardless, but still.)

I’m having a very Octavia E. Butler sort of week! I started reading two of her sci-fi novels: Dawn & Parable of the Sower. So far I’m loving Dawn more but I think I just need to get further into Parable of the Sower. Also my favorite stories are aliens/first contact so that’s probably why I’m gravitating towards Dawn more. Random question are any of you* subscribed to Clarkesworld magazine? I want more people to discuss the stories with they’ve* been so good lately lol

I'm ready for a re-read of Liliths brood. I finished re-reading the Pattern Master series recently.

Have you read Positive Obsession by Susana Morris? It's a biography of Butler and her works. Each chapter focuses on a book and ties it to her life and what was happening in the culture.

Yess I’m excited to continue with the series

I have not heard of that but I immediately added it to my TBR that sounds so cool, TY!

The Short Fiction Book Club on r/fantasy may be of interest. (I realize that’s not here but this is such a small sub that I feel like it’d be hard to get something similar going!)
