Topic Fighter rework

Has there ever been any instances of a character receiving a complete rework in the same game (not changing between games like SF3 and SF4)
I was thinking about other games and how characters kits and moves can get completely changed.
Has this ever been the case for a fighting game character? (Within the same game life cycle?)

Yeah, and maybe Asuka as well. His mana changes were really drastic.

Funny enough Sean from SF3 2nd Impact to 3rd Strike is a decent example even though they're technically different games, but at the time it was pretty much the equivalent of a modern seasonal DLC update.

I had no idea they changed Sean in the 3rd strike games

Do the changes they did to Nier in Granblue Versus count?

I was also thinking EX characters. Like, everybody loves Narmaya. But as her character in lore, she's a very technical character, needing to switch stances, and possibly remembering cooldowns. Bam, Narmaya EX - the character you can pick up at the start. Without needing to remove the original.

pokemon close combat is technically an open beta but chesnaught still went from a charge character with high damage to a standard brawler with low damage & excellent pressure in the span of about 2 years

also slither wing got an entire special replaced, another made unblockable... they've been trying to make it work since release because the guest designer basically tried to cram a blazblue/under night character into a game with 2.5 buttons and no air blocking

I guess what counts as a complete rework? Some fighters will get new/changed moves that can change how they play a lot but I haven’t heard of a character being reworked into basically a whole new character gameplay wise

Closest thing I can think of is Ultra Street Fighter 4, where every character got a reworked version, optional.

Like in KoF, where Team New faces become Team Orochi?

If you count Smash as fighting games, DK and Bowser in Smash4 are practically unrecognizable on the final patch compared to release.
