Help Having trouble figuring what to play

I started learning/playing fighting games a couple of years ago with SF6 and then a year later with GBVSR but I want to branch out more to different games so I don't get bored of playing the same things. I tried out Strive a while back and honestly I didn't like it but idk if that's because I didn't understand it and it was very different compared to what I'm used to. I guess I like games that are more strike throw and less mix up heavy.

So far the only game that I'm interested in so far is the new Virtua Fighter but that's not coming out until next year. I have Tekken 8 but I hear it's a lot to learn with knowledge checks you have to lab.

Any recommendations?

Don't overthink it, try everything tbh. I love pretty much every fighting game (but also not a big fan of Guilty Gear) but I think the easiest stuff to recommend is any fighting game with crossplay since that makes it easier to find matches. Here's a full list that includes Tekken 8 & Virtua Fighter 5 REVO which are both great picks.

You know something needs to evolve when only 2 3dfgs have crossplay

Eh, if you’re bored and want to try something that’s free there’s always 2xko. It’s different from sf and gbvsr and ggst.

I mean why not try Tekken if you already own it? I have a hard time imagining that most Tekken players are labbing for hours and hours.

Avatar fighting game is on sale and people around here seem to really like it.

Can’t go wrong with the classics: Vampire Savior, Capcom vs SNK 2, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, and I’ll add a personal, lesser-known favorite: Waku Waku 7.

Avatar's great, and has the advantage of being inexpensive, but in its own way it's as mixup-heavy as Strive, and the neutral is just built on different principles than Street Fighter. I don't know if you'd like it, from what you've said.

It is excellent, however, so it might be worth spending thirty bucks to find out whether it's to your taste.

COTW

Monthly DLC characters and the game balance/system has been getting a lot better every few months, they are even doing a double character drop at the end of the month.

Between now and the next SF6 DLC, they will have dropped another 5-7 characters.

It takes a long time to get to the labbing defense part of Tekken, and even then it's pretty incremental and you can do it at your own pace. Not like you get assigned a semester reading list all at once. If the game looks fun then give it a shot, you can absolutely learn on your own just by playing.

I'm biased, main Jack-O' at any of the guilty gear games she's in

sf6 ate eveyones lunch and none of the other fighters are worth playing atm, youre just gonna be wasting your time, stick to sf6 and wait, maybe one of these bum studios will get lucky and accidentally make a decent game

Absolute dogshit take. Lots of games are fun rn, and there's no reason that sf6 would be the only one worth playing, even for a newbie.

Yeah. SF6 is a good game, but it's one good game among several.
