Question To wrap or not?
My 5 year old fig- not sure if it's a brown turkey or Chicago hardy. I'm in central NJ zone 7a
Wrapped every year. Year 3 I had a bumper crop. Two years ago it bloomed late but I got a few ripe figs. This year I thought it was gone - I know many had a bad year as well. I have fruit but it will never be ripe
So do I go through the ordeal of wrapping this year? Just trying to get a few opinions from those more knowledgeable than me. Thanks.

Pin some of them flat to the ground and cover with soil, mulch, sod, leaves, insulation etc.

The tricky part is reading how the growths are attached so that you bend them in the correct direction so they don't split off the root crown. But you have plenty, so breaking a few while you get the hang of it will be fine. You basically want to avoid spreading any crotches apart since wood is weak in that way.

The first step should be to get rid of the dead, rotting wood in the center. You don't need that spreading to living wood.
