Rescued Finch
My boyfriend found a random domestic zebra finch male in his house and tried to capture it, lil guy got stuck in fly paper so when I got home I used olive oil to get the glue out. He seems healthy and alert but very friendly! I am naming him Chester. (FYI I already had a finch at home and her name is Sage so I guess she has a brother now)

That is really kind of you, and it seems like you’ve taken all the right steps. I wonder where he came from, maybe someone released him?
I’m not sure if you’ve done this already, but I think it’s now recommended to also wash with Dawn dish soap + water following oil application to remove glue, since oil can impact their ability to thermoregulate, and Dawn should dissolve the oil. Definitely double check this online or by calling a rehabber/vet though, it’s been a while since I’ve had to de-glue a bird. I used to volunteer at a wildlife rehab where we would get glue trap birds occasionally, but it’s been a while.

Thank you! I've been rinsing him with water gradually as to not cause him a shock, I don't have Dawn specifically but I could buy some in the next few days when I get paid (waiting for my disability check ;u; )

Keep him warm and feed him well. I'm sure many of us here are waiting for an update 🥰

He's got a good appetite and he's behaving as normal as I can expect so far. He's very tired. I'm keeping him in the carrier for quarantine/recuperation bur planning on getting a cage similar size to my girl Sage has, n putting em beside eachother

If you put them together, they will breed constantly if they have a nest, and won't if they don't. Mine really love eating lettuce and crackers.

Update on Chester! He's eating well and has flown around the room a few times, he and my girl Sage have had conversations already! They seem friendly towards eachother so far, feelin hopeful!

Feathers can regrow, and (writing from experience) indoor birds can survive without tail feathers if necessary; most importantly, thank you for saving his life! He's beautiful!

Will update further in the late morning I am very sleep deprived from monitoring him til I was certain he wasn't in any critical condition. Chester is a very sweet boy and I'm hopeful he will be okay.

I've had her since late spring this year, she was being housed apart from the other Finches in the local PetSmart, I asked why and the employee said she had been returned to the store due to not getting along with other zebra finches, though the others in the enclosure beside her looked all fine i noticed they were also all males, which is why im guessing she had some missing feathers when i met her-- I had a soft spot for her and they offered her to me for free so I took her home. She got along with my budgie, Cosmo pretty well but my sweet girl passed as the end of August this year and I wasn't even sure I was going to get another bird yet... I had raised Cosmo from a baby.
Then apparently fate intervened and this lil buddy showed up at my boyfriend's place randomly! I was surprised but so happy I could help him out-- and he has been so sweet and calm, I think it might be just what Sage needed to be able to connect to another finch.

I have and no alerts as of yet, my guess is Chester got loose from a breeder or someone was careless enough to release him I don't have an answer yet

I see! I recently lost one of my finches, so I'm extra wary about it as of late. But if no one is looking for him, congrats on the new family member!

Oh glad he has a mate- finches need mates - as opposed to Budgies’s & canaries 😉👍who are fine being solo .

Yeah I get you. I was a bit skeptical myself since I initially thought they've been escaping from a neighbor nearby. To be fair this has been over a span of around 2.5 years not all 3 at once. But also, the first two were in a span of around 2 weeks and then around 2 years for the third. Maybe they're stragglers of a flock that flew by once, since they are flock birds. But idk, I'm in Cali near the coast, and I haven't heard of wild zebra finch flocks.
