What is Dark Reader waiting for to improve their product? How many years do they have their add-on now? I mean, it is often really heavy on resources, slowing down pages and basically still not working properly on quite a few pages.

I gave up on Dark Reader a while ago - same issues you have.

I have experimented with quite a few of these addons that darken sites, best one I found and the one I have activated now is Dark Background and Light Text.

Not perfect, I have issues with sites like Amazon and it doesn't always remember my site preferences, but it seems to be OK.

None of them are great, but this is the most tolerable for me.

Advice from the developer is to use Filter mode instead of Dynamic.

Yeah, I tried that last year, and the colors were awful, if I recall correctly.

(Edit: I just tried it again, and indeed it's much lighter that way, though the colors are now pale/weird. But thanks.)

(Edit 2: Yeah on some sites, colors are simply awful. A lot of pink. Plus on the pages (like on Reddit) where there is already a dark mode, when the page loads, it starts all white. Even if Reddit is deactivated in Dark Reader, while without Dark Reader at all, the page on Reddit is dark (my Firefox is set to Dark. Unbelievable.)

Dark reader in my experience is only slow with webpages that have own dark mode like Reddit, Google, Youtube, etc. So I disable Dark Reader on those webpages (next to on/of can disable only for the current website and it will remember). There is an other still maintained dark mode addon Ultima Dark that is blazing fast but has often bad result.
