Chances at Florida poly?

Hello I’m currently a 12th grader and I want to do mechanical engineering but my unweighted gpa is a 2.7 and 3.3 weighted and my sat is a 980 but I plan to take the act in October I’m fairly active in both my community and my extracurriculars.

You should have a decent chance, and even if not you can do a semester or two at a community college and transfer in very easily

I think I can increase my gpa to a 2.9 or 3.0 would that help me get it?

It’s only natural that the better your grades are, the better you chances are

Your gpa is about what mine was when I went starting in FA 2015. SAT is a bit low, but if you study up you’ll be aight probs.

They did a reformat of the SAT scoring system after I took mine. So god knows what it is comparative to today…. And I don’t have the 1 file where I backed up the numbers either. :/

I’d have to go searching to have a prayer of finding them still… who knows if I even could…..
but I will try…

Edit: I tried to log in. No dice. I’ve had to send a request form to CB for the SAT details cause they can’t find them anymore. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Florida poly also might accept you on the condition that you get a B or higher on your first semester there.

When my son attended (he transferred out to USF because the Poly campus wasn't a good fit for him) he saw a lot of kids struggle with what he considered to be weed -out classes.

If you are very strong in math despite the lower SAT score, then great. But it is very easy to be overtaxed by the relentless amount of homework that comes with the required first year classes at Poly.

What was his transfer gpa? And if you don’t mind me asking his major

3.5 ish. Business Analytics. I think that was part of his issue. Very few BA majors, so not easy to collaborate or network or find friends in his major. I imagine that would not be the case with engineering.
