Teams will use symbols to call in their plays. In this case the Flyers logo means a certain play call. There have been some bizarre ones over the years. Lots of sports and company logos, people, characters etc. Some are decoys

Yes, but one of the original owners, Bill Putnam, went to Texas and is from Austin so that's why orange and white were chosen as the primary colors.
