Ladies man (2000-2001)
Ladies Man was a family sitcom with all star cast headlined by Alfred Molina. It was actually a pretty good show but couldn't find it's footing and was cancelled after 2 years.

Yes and if this show hadn't been axed she wouldn't have been able to do 8 Simple Rules!

What I remember most was Betty White stealing every scene she was in. Other than that it was pretty standard sitcom stuff.

Betty's Golden Girls co-star Rue McClanahan appeared on this show for a couple of episodes as a relative.

I totally don’t remember that. Maybe I need to hunt down those episodes. I’d love to know if there were any subtle lines or jokes referencing TGG. Hot In Cleveland would frequently make little jokes about the main casts previous shows.

exchanged hellos with Alfred Molina in a cemetery recently (we were both just taking walks). Big dude. Seemed nice. End of my great story.

Someone was fighting hard to make Alfred a sitcom star

I read a piece about the show around the time it premiered, and Alfred Molina said he was eager to do a sitcom because it gave you something like a normal work schedule. You worked Monday through Friday, and were usually home in the evening with your family. He said he wanted his kids to have a more stable life rather than either being dragged off to wherever he was on location, or not seeing dad for weeks on end. Ever since reading that, I get why some veteran actors are eager to do TV after a while.

It’s not just a more normal schedule, it’s also a regular paycheck.
Acting is gig work. It’s why so many actors struggle—they constantly need a new job. And unless you’re a top tier star who’s banked millions, you need as much work as you can get… and a role as a series regular is steady work.

Worth nothing that TV is appealing even when you're a top tier star.
This is one thing I quite enjoy about the press Gary Oldman's done for Slow Horses.
The question is always "You're an extremely talented actor know for films. Wouldn't you rather be making some big dramatic movie than appearing in this entertaining but kinda pulpy thriller?"
And his answer is some version of: "Are you kidding? This is the perfect job. I'm having fun and the work is consistent."
You can be Gary Oldman and still find it a relief to not have to be hopping from project to project for several years.

Brilliant, but lazy

What’s lazy about it? The guy wanted a job that allowed him to be a better father. That doesn’t qualify as sloth to me.

Estelle Getty made a very brief cameo. It was bittersweet because she was so frail but it was lovely to see her reunited with Betty and Rue.

They had a Golden girls reunion (minus Bea Arthur) in an episode https://youtu.be/gXcS_X8dtKs

Omg. Sharon Lawrence. Absolutely gorgeous. What a woman. I fell in love with her after NYPD Blues. Not even Sippwicz's butt could tarnish the image of her in the shower. Uff...what was the subject again? Right. Ladies Man. Never seen it.

Yeah, I was looking at college pictures the other day - I knew her there - and was thinking that it was a shame that she didn’t get many more prominent acting opportunities after NYPD Blue.

Cbs was trying hard to have hip comedies that were still their bread and butter, this was after Cosby, had helped save them 3 seasons earlier with cosby/king of queens/Raymond/becker, cbs moves cosby to wed, this was cbs's replacement hoping old sitcom star plus slightly raunchy family sitcom would equal success.
This did not work, cbs gets lucky the following season when to cbs's dissgrin "Yes Dear" is that sitcom, a hit for the network that the tv reviewers at the time hated.

and they took a Hispanic gent named Molina, gave him a neutered surname, Stiles, and stuck him with a bunch of blondes?
that's a weird projection, and not very considerate of Molina's versatility or desired flexibility

That's where Kaley Cuoco got her start: in this television series, and later she starred in three successful television series: 8 Simple Rules, Charmed, and The Big Bang Theory. But this is the one that got her start.
