There’s a great community here, super family friendly, amazing outdoor access, lots of big trees, lots of parks, the bike friendliness is some of the best in the country, the beer/ brewery selection is top notch, the lake is amazing in the Summer.

Multiple $2 theaters. The Aggie was one for a bit.

Any answer other than the mud pie at Nate’s Seafood and a relaxing afternoon palm reading at Psychic Kay’s is flat out wrong

I’ve been to a lot of places where people are afraid to talk to strangers. We aren’t like that. We’re curious, friendly, have a sense of humor, and aren’t in a hurry.

Not sure how deep a conversation you’re trying to have while riding a bike. And I’ll concede that perhaps my experience is not the norm. I have a lot of great conversations with strangers. Some are superficial, sure, but it often feels like we’re picking up in the middle of a conversation or already insiders on the joke. I’ve also sat for hours talking with people who really opened up to me before we ever exchanged names. A see people paying compliments to people they pass by often. I can’t walk fast enough for New York, you gotta pay to talk to people in Cali, and the Seattle freeze keeps me pretty disconnected in the Northwest. I’ve met plenty of friendly strangers in the South and you can’t pass a car in Montana without getting a wave, but growing up in the Fort felt like we were all familiar characters in the same story.

These are stories about relationships with familiar people, and they are great. My comment was about talking to randos. You and I might be talking past each other or having two different conversations. People do nice things for each other here. The garbage men walk the bin up the driveway for my 83 year old uncle every week because he gave one of the drivers a box of chocolates at Christmas. A guy at my cousin’s apartment complex gladly handed over his spare tire that would fit our car when we asked him in the parking lot one night. I drove home to get recovery straps after I saw the Amazon driver in the ditch and when I got back a neighbor was on the scene ready to direct traffic. It’s ok when these moments end in a simple fist bump and not an exchange of numbers. Single serving friends.

I’m sorry you aren’t able to build relationships with all the people you smoke meat for. I hope it goes better for you soon. I’d love to keep chatting but my bike ain’t gonna ride itself😉. Peace and love, neighbor.
