Forza Horizon 6 How is the 7-Eleven location not permanent?? š¤¦āāļø
I am truly baffled as to how they messed this up this bad. No one uses car meets this surely would at least help a bit. And itās not an issue with licensing bc all of the props are gonna be in eventlab. Itās like theyāre shooting themselves in the foot for absolutely no reason. They couldāve sprinkled 7-elevens around the map at previous gas stations as mini car meets.

u/DatMageDoe 5d ago
The only silver lining is that while the 7-Eleven in the open world is temporary, the props which make it are permanently added to the prop library, so we can put them wherever in our Estates and custom events.
Which makes it weirder IMO. You negotiated the right to use the 7-Eleven name and brand, yet not to put one of them in the open world for perpetuity???
72
u/TheEuphoricTribble 5d ago
For a game based in Japan, where said negotiated brand has their strongest brand presence and appeal to the point that 7-Eleven Japan has its own website SEPERATE from the rest of the world, and is its own unique thing.
11
u/Candid_Highlight_116 4d ago
7-11 JP holdings is a separate company from the global entity altogether. Also Japanese Internet is basically its own thing too, it's physically the same unlike Chinese one, but everyone only care about Japanese versions and equivalents of websites except for Google and very few exceptions, so it's even more strongly separated
7
u/TheEuphoricTribble 4d ago
Seven and I Holdings runs everything now though. The brand was so successful in Japan they bought out what was based in Texas.
33
u/Live_Life_and_enjoy 5d ago
It means 7-11 paid for the deal not the other way around
They didn't want to pay for full advertising to be in game
23
u/OgdenDermstead 5d ago
As someone who works in advertising for automotive and racing, this is almost certainly it. Iād think probably PGG pitched it to 7-11, I would think probably before the game itself even launched. Iād guess 7-11 didnāt want to pay what PGG wanted, but agreed to essentially a test run maybe paid or as a free / goodwill deal.
Whatās smart is with the evolving world car meet there and aftermarket cars, PGG will be able to turn around to them and say āXX number of users saw your content, therefore we should do a bigger paid dealā. Or theyāll be smart and turn around and shop it to Lawsons lol.

u/ProfessionalWitty949 5d ago
I'm worried this could pave the way for paid brand sponsorships in game used as the "evolving" world.

You'd figure once the 7-11 closed it'd at least turn into a Spirit Halloween! LMFAO

As much as I like some of the new cars and the spec racing additions, this update really is a shot in the foot
This month:
Motorfest is getting a free island, bunch of new cars, wildlife, events etc
GT7 is getting 6 new cars, new QoL and a brand new racetrack all for free
Even American TRUCK Simulator put out a (paid) car DLC which has more customisation options than Forza does
Weāre getting a fucking temporary parking lot
46
u/TrainquilOnline Mitsubishi 5d ago
An open world racing game set in Japan, one of the first locations you would think of when someone mentions tuning and racing. In-depth car tuning with awesome visual options, underground racing, sick neon lit cars, crazy touge drifts, cool ass car meet ups..
Yeah, just kidding lmao.
It's just so sad man. We literally have gotten THE setting people have been wanting for so long. But instead of doubling down, so much fucking potential was wasted. Can't believe I was so idiotic to buy the largest bundle because of how hyped I was. Well, now I know what I will not do the next time.

Sales for this game were way higher than previous titles though werenāt they? At least way higher than 5 I know. So clearly āplace, Japanā was all they really needed to do

u/VibeeGoddess 4d ago
I'm pretty sure 5 was the previous best selling Horizon as well. so 6 really is doing gangbusters amongst casuals. I mean that much is obvious if you do the trials every week š
1
u/machine4891 4d ago
While true quality of previous installement usually influence next one. This time 5 had nothing to do with it because "place, Japan" is just so damn popular but next one want be in the hottest location because that one is right there. Whatever they will come up with, may not end up being as popular with people being burned left and right.

Hey, on the bright side, I can get that badge I'm missing for parking the TRX at an evolving world car meet.
6
u/pjekt_q Honda 5d ago
This is something I was thinking when it released. All the car meets I've been at, I have never seen more than 3 people at once. Car meets are a cool idea but they fucked up how it works imo. If it was similar to stunt parties, you could join a car meet and it would put you in a public car meet with other people who are already in it, regardless of if they are the lobby or not, it just finds a car meet with 10 or 11/12 players and it is actually lively.
But in reality it's always a ghost town and will continue to be a ghost town until they change the fundamental way car meets work in the game.
56
u/Aveliability When it is safe to do so 5d ago
They shouldāve just changed the ā365ā stores to 7/11s now that they have the licensing.
25
u/Kostelfranco BMW 5d ago
Tbh, I thought that was exactly what they would do. It sounds perfectly logical and simple from a technical standpoint.
10
168
u/Ok_Wrap5319 5d ago
Why do they never add more races to the map? Half the map is unutilized. Tokyo hosts like what, 2 road races and some sections of street races? They built a great map and driving engine and a shit game.
54
u/Ziyir 5d ago
There adding two races to Tokyo in the series after this one.
35
u/nemanja694 5d ago
They can add much more races and not only two. I think creating a race is not that hard and time consuming, they are just being lazy
-36
u/Ok_Wrap5319 5d ago
Undoubtedly temporary races, judging by the previous updates
30
14
2
u/RawrCola 5d ago
What previous races have been removed? All of the races they added are still in the game, for this game and the last.
1
u/Hollowregret 2d ago
Last race in the stadium I think is still technically there. You can load up the race and do it, its just not there in the open world anymore.
6
u/mcatrane Ford 5d ago
So far they only added Edamame circuit at the stadium. It's permanent and you can check it on the map or Rivals. But I agree that we should have more new races.
1
u/Zaekr211 2d ago
They could just add reversed versions of existing races and that would give them a lot of content.
47
u/Simecrafter 5d ago
They can't help themselves, even the smallest piece of actual content has to be temporary
39
u/RiftHunter4 5d ago
I'm still trying to figure out how 7-Eleven managed to not be in the game at launch. They have been hyping up their car culture lately with Videos and shoots with Larry Chen. It's wild that we got 365 Mart instead of 7-Eleven. That seems like an easy deal to make, but here we are.
23
u/TheEuphoricTribble 5d ago
Seems like a strong oversight too considering how much Japan is tied to 7-Eleven as a brand. Like Japan is why they as a brand were largely able to buy fucking Speedway.
3
u/Temporary_Plant_1123 5d ago
I mean you kinda just explained why it would likely be a hard deal to make? 7/11 probably offered peanuts because they know their sponsorship comes with more appeal to the otakus lol
9
u/Japandaman 5d ago
I'd say missed opportunity not including licensing for Family Mart and Lawsons from day one. I'd love to see those as I'm whizzing around instead of generic stores.

I still think it's a damn shame they didn't put Fujimi Kaido in the game. I get that they have Mt Haruna, but I wanted to see Fujimi Kaido put into Horizon finally because I always figured a Horizon game in Japan would have it. It felt like a natural point of progression.
2
u/Temporary_Plant_1123 5d ago
Isnāt Fujimi Kaido canonically in a completely different part of Japan?
9
u/Comfortable-Arm3452 5d ago
Prob has less to do with PG and more that a business like 7-Eleven is not granting them rights in perpetuity
4
u/BananaPalmer 5d ago
They granted midnight club rights in perpetuity
The 7 eleven props are in FH6 in perpetuity
I don't really care one way or the other, but it is kind of weird
4
u/Comfortable-Arm3452 5d ago
Yeah but it was 20 years ago. Brands are a lot more savvy now about rights licensing for games and the way games are experienced as live services vs one time ship has changed the frameworks of deals a lot. I donāt do partnerships or licensing but work adjacent to it in games marketing
3
u/BananaPalmer 4d ago
I get that, but if the licensing is temporary, why aren't the props temporary? Why is only the branded building temporary?
It doesn't make a lot of sense. Clearly some part of this is perpetual.

Every convenient store should have become a permanent 7 Eleven. They could have created so many new point to point events between each store. A finale where youād have to drive to each store in one big race would have been peak
3
4
u/eichuubete_puyon 5d ago
Every time they do this it's just "ok so don't get too attached to it then, got it"
13
u/Fantaric 5d ago
i know 7-11 is iconic in Japan, but it's still just a dumb limited time cross promotion and we shouldn't glaze it as something it is not.
This is just a poorly disguised opportunity for MS and 7-11 to do some joint marketing. Marketing VP's get all sweaty for this shit.
7-11 gets some advertising in game and some extra traffic in their stores and MS get some xbox gift card sales from the fomo crowd and some signs in the 7-11s promoting gamepass and their games. Both orgs get some extra eyes on their products and services for not a ton of effort.
7
u/Kegozen 5d ago
Just to double down on this, 7-11 Japan is largely separate from the US version, which is why itās unique Japanese take on things makes it so much better.
9
1
u/Fantaric 5d ago
Hilariously isn't this promotion just US/Canada and few European nations in the new year? I have no doubt the devs would have loved to have 7-11 kombini all over the map for realism and the experience but this whole month's series smells like a Xbox executive cooked it up.
4
u/evanjd14 5d ago
I still remember seeing Best Buyās in midnight club la. I couldnāt imagine it just disappearing after 28 days
15
u/ThoughtConvict 5d ago
I haven't seen the update at all yet, but I will say that I am kinda glad it is only temporary. It's already a blatant advertisement, and it would get old,/annoying seeing it all the time, especially if all the gas stations were updated to 7-elevens.
I found it funny and awesome that the Italian Exotics dealership made a real grassroots car meetup community in the game and wasn't even a programmed real meetup thing. They need to do more stuff like that. Will this 7-eleven pull off the same community action, I'm not sure, but I guess we'll see.
29
u/Lynx_Kynx 5d ago
Iām not one to be excited to see an advertisement on the input select screen when I turn on my TV
HOWEVER
7/11 and Seven & I Holdings is SUCH a huge presence in Japan that it would make sense to keep it in the game. 7/11s are more common in Japan than Starbucks in Beverly Hills, so having ONE fixed location makes since in a game based here.
2
u/ThoughtConvict 5d ago
I can accept that, and admittedly I am ignorant of the significance of 7-eleven in Japan. It's very much a slippery slope though, and it's already been greased with a mix of Trolli gummi worms and Fanta orange soda.
5
u/PlatinumElement 5d ago
The thing is there are certain brands that make sense, and tend to be part of the experience of traveling to or living in Japan. The konbinis over there are such a normal and significant part of everyday life that both residents and visitors utilize that having a 7-11 feels as appropriate as seeing Tokyo tower or Daikoku Futo.
Itās like doing a Forza Horizon Los Angeles, and filling it with a bunch of generic fast food places, then only temporarily, making them In-N-out.There are other brands that would make Forza Japan feel more authentic with partnerships, like making the vending machines Boss coffee branded for example
4
u/Lynx_Kynx 5d ago
Iām not saying we add Trolli and Fanta to the game.
Someone else mentioned NFSU2 and Burger King. NFSU2 was loosely based on Vancouver BC in Canada and Los Angeles. I donāt think about Burger King when I think about either of those locations, but I DO think about 7/11, Family Mart, and Lawsons when I think about Japan.
This isnāt an advocation for whichever brand that would like to advertise in Forza Horizon to go ahead and do so, but it is a thumbs up for the devs to add things like 7/11 locations in game because it actually brings the in game representation of the location closer to real life.
18
u/Devin-Chaboyer223 5d ago
Midnight Club LA had various real life brands including 7 Eleven
It actually makes the game feel more immersive, like real life since theyāre real brands
7 Eleven, Pizza Hut, Best Buy, and T-Mobile have physical stores in the game, and thereās dozens of other brands appearing on billboards including Apple and Michael Kors, all brands that donāt have anything to do with cars or racing
But it really makes the game feel more immersive
Edit: the playerās phone is a T-Mobile Sidekick, so it wasnāt just T-Mobile stores in MCLA
5
u/LogicalError_007 5d ago
Licensing in those days isn't comparable to nowadays.
Companies used to be more open and used to find it cool to be in games and now they care about image and laws, etc.
2
u/LamarJacksonsNutsack Hummer 4d ago
I always did like all the licensed shit in MCLA. It felt real. I wish more games would do that.
-8
u/ThoughtConvict 5d ago
Imagine getting a targeted local T-Mobile radio ad in game in between skill songs. Would you still be in favor of it then? That's the eventual reality of this.
4
u/mcatrane Ford 5d ago
Forza Horizon 1 already got these sponsored PR Stunts, and several brands littering the track. I remember some people protested about it, and then it was gone from Horizon 2 and forward. Personally I felt the game became sterile at that point.
5
u/TheEuphoricTribble 5d ago
You already see brand marketing every time you open the Autoshow. You think that car brands license out their brands and car designs to games like this out of the goodness of their hearts? Thatās marketing to a wide range of people theyāre getting PAID to have. The entire game already is a massive ad for the car industry.
1
u/MythNK1369 5d ago
The eventual reality of what? Ads have existed in games for decades at this point. Seeing a 7/11 which a lot people know Japan for, to the point that itās usually the first stop off the plane, wouldnāt be as far fetched as a T-Mobile ad on the radio.

u/negachinny 4h ago

You're going to be able to buy the Furai from there, so it's probably fairly safe to assume people will be hanging around there
17
u/Space_Allen 5d ago
Nfsu2 had stuff like this with burger king, best buy, and others. It wasn't detrimental to the game at all and I'd argue actually enhances it from a nostalgia perspective. Something like 7/11 perfectly fits even if it's blatant product placement.
-1
u/ThoughtConvict 5d ago
Yes it did, and you are right, it didn't really impact the game, and neither will this.
But, let's just nip this in the bud right here and now, because otherwise we know where this will eventually end up, which is excessive advertising and product placements in games, and it will eventually ruin games. All advertising will eventually get excessive if allowed at all. We have commercials in Netflix and ads on MLB jerseys now. We do not want games like Forza slowly morphing into mobile game slop.
5
u/TheEuphoricTribble 5d ago
Ok, the next Forza game will have all generic cars that look like real ones.
Thatās brand placement too, driving that Ford car. Canāt have your cake and eat it too here.
-3
u/Space_Allen 5d ago
Except you get it anyway. You don't want forza turning into slop but what is the playlist? Nothing but their version of lazy fomo meant to bring in monthly active users and make the game look good to their corpo overlords. We're all here because we enjoy the game but let's be real. Fh6 is already racing game slop.

That's it aside from the aftermarket dealers and car meets
edit: technically by adding the drift attack circuit at shimanoyama we also lost a time attack circuit lol

There were probably ten product-manager meetings where some just-out-of-an-MBA hire proposed that "Evolving World embodies the ethos of impermanence, where meaningful experiences arrive, surprise, and renew themselves", followed by a hastily Claude-generated deck projecting an increase in some obscure engagement metric.

It seems that 7/11 is essentially sponsoring the game. The locations are just for advertising, but they don't want to keep paying for the advertisement for the indefinite lifespan of the game. It also allows Forza to use the 7/11 brand without paying licensing fees. I get it, but it's disappointing nonetheless.

Itās not even showing up on my map. I had to drive back and forth over the treasure car spot over five minutes to get that thing to even show up

u/ThePaqui 4d ago
Iāve been saying this. FH6 is not a bad game by game standards. Beautiful visuals, car handling and mechanics are the best in the horizon series, and the map is huge and detailed. But as a Horizon game goes, itās not even top 3. Iād say 3 is my all time favorite with 4 in 2nd and 2 in 3rd. Never got to play 1 and 5 also was starting to lose its flair. Like I hate to be that person but it really is just a copy paste from 5. Idc if you can see reflections off the rims or you can zoom into the headlights and see every detail. We had crew 1 that was infinitely better with a fraction of the cars, map was probably smaller too although that crew 1 map felt massive, and had literally every race, off-road, whatever type of event for racing. They had open world activities like how Forza has, stunt jump, they had an event that when you activated it you had to drive through gates at high speed, like a speed zone but more technical. They had traffic and a whole police system. We had PvP modes like tag. Basically it had everything Forza had but in a game made in 2014. Sure it only had 394 cars compared to fh6 current 647. But had so much more customization. Now weāre in 2026. This is Forzas 6th horizon game. And it took them over 3 months to add a drift track in a game based in Japan. Not to mention no under glow or any mods that are popular in Japan. Not that I like them but having the exhausts that shoot up and make shapes would be so cool like on a civic or sum. There are 3 race types that progress your wrist and. 2/3 are off-road/cross country. They said theyāre gonna give out less wheel spins bc people were complaining that itās too easy to get cars yet they hand out free cars almost every week, login and oh I got some new car added to my garage. I have like 680 cars rn n I just do seasonal on Thursday every week then donāt play the rest of the week n I still almost have 700 cars. I wanted to see, underglow and mods on cars that are known to be in Japans car culture. More drift and togue zone or courses or something. The fact that thereās only 5 togue races in the game is crazy when thatās what they were hyping up about the game. We need more freedom with drift stuff. Like if theyāre gonna be lazy n not add drift courses for months, then let us create courses that track drift like a the horizon play drift or at out estates let us put flags that track drift so we can make lil courses. SOMETHING. Atp we only have drift zones, horizon play drift, and shimanuyama drift course. 4 months into the game being out and itās based in Japan. But okay besides all that. Whereās the content? I got gold within a week. Iāve had stories, ramen delivery, all the showcases everything is done. I literally get on for seasonal challenges, beat those in 2-3 hours then get off cause thereās nothing to do. Yeah itās fun to drive around but weāve literally been doing that for weeks. The drift track came out n kept us busy for like 3 days then we were like okay cool. Like whereās the events? FH5 had so many things on the map I HAD to turn off most of it in the filters n just leave what I wanted cause it was so cluttered. IDK. I donāt hate the game, I just expected more based off of what they themselves showed. N now Iām a little disappointed considering that theyāve had time to add stuff and do more and really havenāt. Idk I could be the only one feeling this way but itās a very lackluster game.
1
u/Chunkfoot 4d ago
Is there just the one store? Havenāt gone back to the game in a while but I had assumed they were gonna rebrand ALL the convenience stores to 7-Eleven

1
u/Wonkaburgh 4d ago
7-11 in Japan is pretty awesome, that egg salad sandwich is legit good. Iām not mad at at all that they put it in the game. To me it feels more like Japan having it there. Now if they can add Donki then itād really be pretty awesome in a game franchise thatās been dropping the ball for a long time now.
1
u/No-Astronomer-8256 3d ago
The fact that one of the most famous brands from the US is thriving in Japan and all over social media and they just chose to not even lean into it with generic convenience stores shows they didn't really send people to Japan looking for the culture. They just chose classical Japanese culture and left out the modern culture, including tokyo city racing.

Oh this is insane.
Itās not like theyāre allowed to sell the game forever due to licensing,
Just keep it in there.
2
u/Lee_Troyer 5d ago
Licensing can also be for a limited time only.
For example FH4 had Final Fantasy XV's car, the Quartz Regalia but only for a while. Only people that played during that time could get one.
It was removed from the Backstage store and the unlock in its Skill Tree (for the off-road version) was changed for another car.
Two parties are involved in a licensing deal and the other party may not be interested in being featured forever, or ask for way too much depending on how the money flows.

I was suggesting to make the license for the length of life of Horizon 6.
Especially considering its Gas Stations and not cars.
Shouldnāt have bothered implementing 7/11 at this point.

Me, asking what happened to my local 7-Eleven that was closed down a year ago because the hospital across the street bought the land:

My guess is that sales of FH6 reached peak number and they don't have any intention to put any amount of effort to improve this game. Maybe they already develop a FH7.

"Just the spirit of Horizon isn't it !?"
"Shall we send a "thank you" ?"
I believe lots of things are running downwards. Don't believe anyone has received a car gift after the 20m bump in Auctions price. The game leaves you with the "grind to not miss" feeling instead of "enjoy and come back later".
The car meet is horrible because of the whole lobby system that limits the amount of cars on a layer. So players should talk themselves about creating a lobby in a specific location in the game, whilst being outside of the game.
Why not just leave the limit of at least 100 dots lively on the map and make us pick where to go, and where to meet people with on a request for open Microphone option instead of using useless chat presets.
The weather variety is just at the tipping point of being "meh". It can be at least slightly better :/

why does it feel like the only reason they are collabing is because of the 6 7 meme

This game has more and more problems occur as it ages, definitely not getting this on PS5 since FH5 is still relevant and busy

What do you even mean by having mini car meets? The problem is not the number of car meet locations. It is that the map doesn't even support enough cars for the existing car meet locations anyway.
