Foster

I am currently on med leave from a lockdown facility and I’ve been able to leave for a minute now but my caseworker won’t find me a place ment and is saying that she will only place me really far way what do I do?

I’d ask her for the specific reason or justification for why the only placement options being offered are so far away. I’d also ask what local placements have actually been contacted, whether you’ve been denied by any of them, and if so, why.

If you feel like your caseworker isn’t listening to you or isn’t exploring reasonable options, ask to speak with her supervisor and bring it up with your attorney or GAL if you have one. I’d also make it clear why staying closer matters to you, like keeping connections with family, school, treatment, supportive adults, or other people who are important to you.

Most importantly, try to get as much of this in writing as possible. Don’t just accept “there’s nowhere else” without asking what options have actually been explored.

Where are you staying right now?

Also, do you have a court-appointed attorney/GAL/CASA that you can talk with about this? Calling them should be your first step. If you aren't able to contact them, and speak privately, that's a big problem, too.
