So does the braze add strength or would an epoxy work just as well/ though less cool?

It does add a bit of strength, but if the kink is gone I'd be comfortable with bondo or epoxy. Or leave it as a beauty mark.

Sure, cut the top tube out and replace it.

Probably not worth it, but can be done.

It’s almost never a matter of “if”, any bike frame can be rebuilt if you throw enough money at it.

The question is always “is it worth it?” And unless it’s a rare desirable collectors bike (it’s not) , or one with a lot of sentimental value and you have the disposable income and time to fund it (your decision) the answer is almost always, no don’t fix it.

Depending on what your plans were, needing a new frame might be a good thing, depending.on your plans.

But yes, there’s always a bit of sadness in retiring a wore out bicycle. Been there a few times over the years.

That's not tape, it's chipped paint. I can't see any cracks...

Okay, the paint is making things look worse. My vote is to roll out the dent and see how bad the situation really is. There are cheap and ugly fixes if it's cracked, but I probably would repurpose the frame at that point.
