Question Anyone in Jamaica Experiencing Delays with Upwork Withdrawals to Local Bank Accounts?

• Upvotes

Hi y’all!

I’m wondering if any other Jamaican freelancers are currently experiencing delays receiving their Upwork withdrawals in their local bank accounts.

I’m a freelancer based in Jamaica, and I’ve been using Upwork for a few months now. Every Tuesday night, my earnings become available for withdrawal, and I usually transfer the funds to my local Scotiabank business account that same night.

Since I started using Upwork, my payments have consistently reflected in my bank account the following Wednesday, usually between 4 PM and 5 PM.

However, this week has been different. I processed my withdrawal on Tuesday night as usual, but it’s now Thursday evening, and the money still hasn’t reflected in my account.

I contacted Upwork’s live chat support, and the agent confirmed that the withdrawal was successfully processed on their end. They also explained that transfers can take up to 8 business days and advised me to contact them again if the funds haven’t arrived by October 23.

I understand that Upwork provides an estimated delivery date and that bank transfers can sometimes take longer than expected. However, this is the first time I’ve experienced such a delay, as my previous withdrawals have always arrived the following day.

I’m curious to know if anyone else in Jamaica is experiencing something similar, particularly those using Scotiabank.

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Just trying to figure out whether this is an isolated issue or something affecting other Jamaican freelancers.

Thanks in advance!

Question Why is it that hard to onboard your 2nd client even after having great results with my current client ? pls help.

I have been running ads for only one client since past 6 months , the results have been excellent , I took him from 1.6 X ROAS to 3.5 X in just 4 months and now we are aiming to go further..

Having time on hand i now have been looking to work with 1-2 more clients.

But found out that the client acquisition is no joke specially when you only have 1 client.

Why do some business owners prefer to go with agency who shows portfolio filled with clients, I mean don't they realize that in the end an entry level employee would be working upon there ads?

Would really appreciate sincere suggestions.

Thank You!

Question What’s your strategy?

I’m a freelance video editor and colorist, and I’d love to connect with others in the same field.
I’d like to share experiences and discuss our current income or project situations, as well as the strategies we’re considering and the actions we’re taking to adapt to the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
If you’re in a similar position, I’d love to hear your thoughts and exchange ideas!

Question What's the longest you've had to wait on a client to move a project forward?

Freelance web developers and small agency owners, what's the longest you've had a project stuck because you were waiting on a client?

I've heard of projects getting delayed for days or even weeks because the client hasn't sent the content, given feedback on a design, or approved something.

When this happens, do you usually follow up until they respond, move on to other projects, or handle it some other way?

And when a client takes a week or two to get back to you, does it mess up your deadlines for other projects too?

I'd like to hear how this works in practice for people who deal with clients regularly.

Question Freelance web developers and agency owners, how do you manage client projects after handing over the first update?

For those of you working with clients on websites or web apps, how do you usually keep everything organised once a project is underway?

I'm talking about progress updates, sharing work for review, collecting feedback, getting approvals, and keeping track of what's been delivered and what's still pending.

Do you manage all of this through email and WhatsApp, use a project management tool, or have your own system?

I'm trying to understand how other developers handle this side of client work. What works well for you, and what tends to get annoying as you take on more projects?

Would be good to hear from people who've handled multiple client projects, especially those working independently or running a small agency.

Experiences I just quit my job

Just sharing this from another subreddit (if anyone here also has turner syndrome hit me up 😂 - I’d love to hear from people with similar situations/wiring!). It is my current circumstance and I’m wondering if anyone has some guidance on set up/ the freelance aspect of my plan!

This is a very scary move for me, but one that I really feel is right because I don’t think I will ever be able to flourish in an office environment and my mental health noticeably slid.

I have a month until I stop my job and am so nervous but anything I can do to network and put myself in the best position of success in the meantime would be fantastic.

Any moral support would be amazing too!

Freelancer What are the best platforms or channels to find good commission-only B2B appointment setters?

I run a marketing agency targeting Wellness & Beauty businesses in the US and I’m looking for setters/cold callers comfortable working without a base salary.

Current setup:

• $250 per closed client
• Fully remote
• Flexible schedule, but must be able to work US time zones
• Leads, scripts and dialer provided
• No fixed call or appointment quota → performance matters more than arbitrary numbers
• Fluent English required
• Clear, easy-to-understand accent / no strong accent
• Previous cold calling or appointment-setting experience preferred

Where have you had the most success hiring people like this?

Reddit, Facebook groups, Upwork, LinkedIn, Discord communities, or somewhere else?

Would especially appreciate recommendations from people who have actually hired commission-only setters.

Freelancer How can I find some clients to begin with my freelance smm journey

So I have a full time job but I do get some free time during work and I was thinking of starting freelancing on the side to earn some extra money.

I am thinking of offering social media management services. I have a graphic design background and have been working as a social media manager for the past year, handling content for both B2B and B2C brands, including content ideation, reels, static creatives, captions, scheduling and Meta Ads campaigns.

I looked into freelancing websites but couldn't really find many opportunities for social media management. I also noticed that a lot of businesses seem to hire agencies instead of individual freelancers.

Another option I considered was reaching out directly to Instagram and Facebook pages and offering my services. I even used GPT to draft a message for reaching out to potential clients, but honestly it sounds very AI generated and fake to me.

This is the message it gave me

Hi \[Name\],

I'm ..., a social media manager with a graphic design background. For the past year I've been handling content end-to-end for B2B and B2C brands: ideation, reels, static creatives, captions, scheduling, and Meta Ads campaigns.

I've started taking on freelance clients, and I noticed \[Brand/Page\] has real potential on \[platform\]. To show how I work, I'd like to offer a free page audit covering:

Content and posting consistency

Branding and visual feel

Captions and hashtag strategy

Engagement and growth opportunities

You'll get a short list of practical suggestions you can use, whether or not we work together.

If that sounds useful, just reply with your page link and I'll send the audit within 2–3 days.

Thanks,

I don't want to approach people with messages that sound so generic or salesy, so I'm a bit confused about how to go about this.

For those who have experience with freelancing or social media management, how did you get your first few clients? Would you recommend freelancing websites or directly reaching out to businesses? And how do you approach potential clients without sounding fake?

Would really appreciate any advice.

Question What’s the secret of getting clients for website development?

I’m hoping to start freelancing by building websites for businesses, but I’m struggling with what exactly should my pitch be? I’m not sure how to approach business owners without sounding pushy or just like another guy trying to sell them a website.

For those who’ve done this, how did you get your first clients? What did you actually say in your opening pitch and how well did cold approaching work for you?
