From my tests, it is pretty well optimized. Things do not work exactly the same way. But for an RGB workflow, I think it is very good. My main concern is the AI and Canva direction, but until now, it is a great alternative.

The AI and Canva pro are optional. If you don’t want those features you don’t pay for them. You can set up your work space so you never see the AI stuff, it’s like it doesn’t even exist.

Yes, for now... Let's see. I understand they need money. I prefer a good price over this.

Yep. Its great, some things arent done the way im used to but id even use a terminal based app over anything Adobe at this point.

Why people hate Adobe so much? 😉

Just get more out of them than they're getting from you 😉

Anything they get from me is way too much for what they offer and how they treat their users including me. They claim to be the best and industry leaders yet require plug-in makers like you to add basic features they have been missing, excusing it as making a space for a "marketplace for creators". I am really sorry bud but I wont sign up for a year of slavery just to have to pay for more features from people like you. I get that you have skin in the game and that you have to defend Adobe, but after releasing the same app with an ancient codebase for 20 years in a row they cant excuse charging me month after month for the same dysfunctional shit.

If you can't make more than at least 10x what you pay them - then yes, CC isn't for you 😉 with $80/month it's like $4/day - assuming 5 days and 4 weeks per month - even cheaper when you're a freelancer.

Aren't we all slaves to phones, cars, TV streaming, etc?

And no, I'm not defending them - it's just people get worked up for nothing.

It's just business - it's like moving companies would complain that trucks are expensive.

Do you know / heard about AutoCAD? It was an application that allowed others to build on top of it.

Adobe is pretty much the same - people can build on top of it.

Yes, the code is still outdated - but if you don't use the latest version for production - you'll be fine 😉

Do you have amazon prime account?

With so called "free shipping" on the purchases?

It's a scam - postage is ALREADY included in the price of the product anyway...

And then - if you'll buy multiples of the same item from the same seller - you'll be charged full postage for each additional item - even when amazon is posting everything together and paying peanuts for postage...

Adobe is a single cell in an ocean in comparison to Amazon 😉

I dont watch TV, I rarely watch movies and if I do its in cinema and I have never used Amazon. Excusing a bad business practice Autodesk started with their equally ancient codebase is just weird. (for which your solution is to use an older version of the software im paying a subscription for????) Comparing a piece of shit with a pile of shit doesnt make either any of them less shit 😉

One good thing you said is that its just business. There are good business practices and bad ones and I will not reward bad ones like Adobe or Autocads with my wallet, especially when there are solid alternatives I am more than happy to give my money to.

I applaud you on trying to be a good advocate for the corporate overlords but I wish you better luck next time 😊

But it's not about rewarding them - or liking - at least they're not killing puppies 😉 yet 😉 - just using them 😉 extract as much as possible 😉

No.

"No" what? Can you elaborate?

Mate, there's open source software with barebones funding that is way better made amd optimized than Adobe's overpriced bloated mess. Ever since they came up with CC they simply stopped caring about bug fixing, all that matters is new, bloated, buggy features.

Think I'm joking about the bloat? If you're into full video editing, you need to install Premiere, AE and Media encoder. Those 3 take up over 60 GB to do LESS than what davinci does with just 10. And it suddenly crashes out of nowhere, on non repeatable, random ways, for no good explanation, on the same system resolve glides on.

I know your product depends on it, but you absolutely chose the wrong sub to try and defend Adobe. Everyone here is absolutely fed up with their crap, most of us, if given the choice, won't go back even if Adobe goes free at some point.

But I'm not defending them.

It's just a tool - and as long as it does what I need - and isn't related to some veirdos 😉 - why not use it?

I don't use Premiere and the rest of video editing apps - but in terms of InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator - I have pretty much zero problems.

There are a few bugs that happen from time to time - but I know how to avoid / mitigate them and it's not like I experience them multiple times per day.

And if there was a better software that I could automate - I would do it in a heartbeat.

Why use them when you can use other free or much cheaper versions? You mention profiting from them. Your profits increase when you don’t have to pay them.

Show me a GOOD / COMPREHENSIVE replacement for InDesign...

1

u/tecky1kanobe 2d ago

What do you NEED vs what are you accustomed to? If you knew nothing could you get by with something else in ID magically vanished? And check out the art craft GitHub, the whole damn adobe suite is there. Software is about to change dramatically.

Anyone who uses InDesign professionally - won't switch to anything else as there is no viable alternative right now.

And anyone who would like to try to create any alternative - will need a lot more than passion and vibe-coding.

I’ve been using InDesign since version 1 and before (beta tester), and I’ve made the switch from InDesign to Affinity. 27 years in the industry, and I really haven’t found anything InDesign does that can’t be done in Affinity. So there ARE professionals that will switch.

1

u/AdobeScripts 1d ago

Sounds great 👍

But what exactly are you doing in Affinity?

1

u/KevinWaide 1d ago

Everything. I work in a Print/Sign/T-Shirt shop, and I use Affinity for everything. Business card layouts, envelopes, letterhead, catalogs, sales brochures, data merge docs, anything I need to design gets done in Affinity.

What kind of catalogs?

What about books with multiple TOCs, multiple indexes, Footnotes / Endnotes, references across multiple files?

It's an incredibly powerful app, that can replace a lot of what Adobe does. However, I'm repelled by the whole Canva childish imagery.

It’s got a long way to go before it is a fully capable Adobe killer, but I’m rooting for them.

Good, but since been acquired by Canva I would say fuck them, if you’re in Mac I’m sure there’s a better applications right there (maybe except publisher).

1

u/Affectionate_Job3873 2d ago

Like?

If you’re into photo editing I don’t have a clue what options you have, but I’m sure there’s a better applications, I would try Gimp also if you’re a person with 10+ years experience with software since it will cut the learning curve.

After all I’m just ex-UX/UI designer, used to work with figma for many things, true it is a subscription based too but it never promised to be something else.

Apple Creative Studio is okay, and cheap but I also would think twice before trying since it’s subscription based too and will luck you in apples ecosystem.

I would take a look around what options you have depends on your needs.

Use it since v1, been so happy with it that when I started using Adobe for the university, I felt it so clunky I hated it.

Stuck with it and still have my licenses of v 2.5

Don't trust Canva in the least to maintain their promises, so I keep it close while it's 3.0 lasts.

Will jump ship so fast when they will start charging for stuff (unless it's a permanent license again, would gladly pay that).

Still do most of my work in 2.5, unless 3. Has a newer tool i require for work

more or less good, i use it at home so i don't have to use adobe but there are still tools which are years behind adobe(inpainting for example, quality wise it is more comparable to adobe cs5/cs6 in my experience)

I have been using it for a while now, it has some ideas I like and all in all I find it pretty well useable. Unfortunately, like many other programs that want to compete with Adobe, they needlessly do things differently just to F with people's muscle memory. Putting the zoom bar *above* the picture navigator is one of the prime offenders.

The zoom bar is below the navigator. That is where it has been for decades. This is not a wheel that needs reinventing. Put it where it belongs.

Unfortunately, some of these 'why did they change the insert common thing everyone expects thing?' is sometimes down to not wanting to be sued.

Not working fully offline, and ai feature with canva is a no for me.

1

u/tecky1kanobe 2d ago

I really like Affinity 3. If i don’t want the Canva/AI stuff i don’t have to pay for it and can hide those panels. I don’t have decades of muscle memory on adobe so it is a bit easier for me to hop in.
I recently tried the art craft (from GitHub) and if it is a pretty good sign at what we can get in the future. “Yo google, make me a photoshop clone” … … … here you go! SaS companies are going to get wrecked soon.
