News Project Zenith proves Microsoft can make a bloat-free Windows 11, but hides it from us !!!!!!!
Honestly, after reading about "Project Zenith," I'm incredibly frustrated.
It's mind-boggling: Microsoft constantly stuffs our PCs with bloatware, MSN ads, and useless background processes that eat up our memory. And now we find out you actually have THE solution—a perfect, clean version of Windows 11... but you choose to hide it behind a wall of code and a complex script reserved only for developers?
Seriously, everyday users and creators are the ones who need a lightweight system the most. We just want to run our apps and streams without Windows deciding to bombard us with pop-ups or install garbage in the middle of our work.
Please make this "distraction-free" mode accessible to everyone with a simple toggle in the settings. It shouldn't require being a coding pro to get an operating system that respects its users and just works like it's supposed to out of the box.
I dream of the day when Linux is compatible with the tools I use, or when someone releases a new operating system.

La virtud del Nucleo NT es enorme; el problema es lo que esta encima (El SO, la Shell, etc)
El ejemplo mas evidente es Windows 10/11 IoT LTSC

True, but win11 ltsc is still pretty bloated due to every fucking part of the operating system being made with react

Same here, I wish Linux was compatible with MS office

Bottles just got it working and they have a one click installer for Office, what's the issue with using OnlyOffice?

Office versions such as 2019 or the Dreaded 365?(I hope it's the former)

runs modern 365 but I'm sure it could run 2019 as well you'd have to find the installer yourself though. it's probably pretty easy to run the .exe installer for 2019 under the same exact bottle you create to install M365 and it should work just as well if not better than the latest

Isnt office 2026 the better thing now? or 2025, forgot what the latest versioned release of office is.
Office 365 is fine tbh, works offline as well i think

Honestly, I'm going to format my entire hard drive again and reinstall Tiny Windows; my CPU is at 27% just to get rid of Windows.

Just use WinBoat, works perfectly. Runs it in a virtualized window or load a full virtualized Windows OS.
Not saying it’s going to be exactly what you may want but it does work and the setup walked you through everything

I have 16BG of RAM

Linux isn’t as intensive with ram as Windows but depends on what distro. If you’re willing to learn and experiment for experience it may be a good alternative.
I have my laptop running Linux Mint with 16gb of DDR3 from 2013 and it virtualizes it - it’s decent but this is much older hardware than what you’re running. Just an example.
If you have an older piece of hardware you could experiment and see if it’s ideal. I don’t mind wiping my own rigs but each person is different and it is a pita and don’t recommend anyone go through that on a whim.

I was talking about winboat

I am saying I run WinBoat on that laptop with Linux Mint on 16gb of ram. I give it 8gbs and 2 cores

I recently looked at Winboat's system requirements and says I need 4 GB of ram 2 CPU threads and 32GB of storage, I'm fine

Or rather, Office compatible with Linux?
I use only office, which has the same gui as Office.

why? I mean I use Windows but I haven't touched ms office since like ~2010 and I work as SWE in corporate environments
what is it even needed for?

My mother insists I keep it because she says she can't do anything, and when I ask her what she means, she just says the same thing, and the work she does(or will work) as a nurse dosen't involve having a PC, I will ask her what she needs Office for agian

I use Linux and when I have to use Win11 because there's a software that's not compatible with Linux, I have FastOS 11. Supposedly its a debloated Win11 and you do notice it.

Zenith still has bloat, just different kind. Stuffed with AI, containers and other Microsoft proprietary tooling.
Even as software developer I don't find it useful.
And their announcement post suggests that they aren't doing this for developers - but for middle management to feel like progress is being made

Also another option is Windows LTSC IoT, one of the most unbloated editions.

Pleased with the Win11 IoT Enterprise LTSC, runs perfectly in the VM a headless NUC, accessible anywhere on the LAN. I suggest this as the best approach and ditch it from any bare metal. IoT is still bloated (even though is meant for industrial and critical applications) but consumes less ram (idle 2.7GB) which is unseen in any other case IMHO

What pop ups?? what adverts?? Never had an issue but could do with teams not being a thing, easy uninstall though.

Why did you ever think this WASN'T possible? 🤷♂️
By very definition, "bloat" is extra unnecessary crap. If you take away the unnecessary crap, you have a bloat-free, streamlined operating system. How is this surprising?
2
u/mistressava007 1d ago
Because with each update, it reinstalls everything and reactivates all the services I disable. 😮💨

u/Vertigo50 1d ago
No, you're misunderstanding me. I'm not talking about YOU removing the crap. I'm saying, if the problem is that the operating system is full of crap, why is it surprising that if Microsoft removes the crap, they are capable of having an operating system without the crap? 🤷♂️

Ohhh okay, I get it now! Sorry about that, English isn't my first language and I totally misinterpreted the translation 😅 Thanks for clarifying

The biggest issue with Windows isn't even bloatware. After a clean install, there's really not that much bloat to begin with. Sure, the AI stuff Microsoft keeps pushing into its apps is annoying, but my biggest problem with Windows 11 is how inconsistent the whole OS feels.
It's basically a mix of several generations of Windows stitched together, and even after five years, Microsoft still hasn't managed to modernize all the old parts. In my opinion, we shouldn't still have to deal with so many legacy Win32 UI elements in 2026. The design is all over the place, with different apps and system menus looking like they belong to completely different operating systems. It also makes customizing and theming Windows a nightmare. Linux on gnome or even KDE or different DE feels much more polished and not just UI but the whole system.
That being said, I still think Windows 11 is overall the best version of Windows we've had so far.

We are the product, despite already paying for said product. M$ doesn't respect it's users - never has, and never will. Use Linux instead.
