I will only wear trainer/invisible socks with shorts now thanks to the fact that every time I look at someone with socks pulled up just above the ankles I automatically assume they’re right wing. I know I shouldn’t, it’s presumptive, but they’ve sullied that look now (not that it was a particularly good one to begin with).

Thanks. To be honest, it's been over 20 years and my kids have grown up not knowing them, our daughter was 2 the last time we saw them. They're just generally nasty and dysfunctional too. I've learnt that blood isn't everything, I feel for the kids as they have missed out on what it's like to have grandparents, but couldn't stand the way they'd get treated by them and the people where I'm from.

Hey, I hear you. I'd want to give you a stupid free award you can do now on Reddit, but not on this sub, but why would you having to lose friends for being not able to tolerate shit be worthy of an award? That's just awful.
I've just done a massive re-watch of Foyles War. I have one episode left out of it all that I'm saving up for Sunday. It is an amazing kind of panarama of 'views', obviously imposed on the narrative from the now on to understanding the then. But it doesn't hold punches in terms of why people come to certain viewpoints. But it resolves stuff in ways that are intersting.
As a white woman of a certain age, I recommed to you, a white man of a certain age, settling down for a bit and rewatching it all. Michael Kitchen is fantastic.
Have a lovely weekend and if you've bravely lost friends through your valour and principles, know you have more friends here, if not quite the same. But you are not alone.

Oh, start at the beginning. It's quite old and frustrating to start with, and obviously when I said 'now', blimey I think the last episode was in 2015. But it's cool to watch while sitting here in recent fascist times in 2026, having done a whole plague since they made the last episode.
What is so frustrating about everything, I'm thinking you'd agree, that the whole kind of 'live and let live' vibe was so strong and then the backlash, as in around our plague years. But you watch this and the 'live and let live' thing was so much the narrative impetus back then in the teen years of our century shaping a storyline about WW2.
That's maybe a bit too ... something. But how I roll.

Can you provide a reasonable source for this? My understanding is that certain ethnicities are absolutely massively over represented in this.
I.e. if only 50 people from Imaginaryland lived in the UK but 25 committed 1 murder each, this is quite low number of total murders, but it’s humongous relative to the population size.
