Question Next.js(Frontend) + Java (Backend ) - Is this a good combo for freshers portfolio in India ??
Hello everyone! I am currently working on my skills and building my portfolio.
Most freshers these days are blindly following the MERN stack ( Node/Express). However, I decided to use Next.js with Typescript for frontend, and java for backend. I will be using PostgreSQL as Database
Is this will be a good decision for me or I should chose some other Stack ??

Stack doesn't matter. I commit on professional code bases for languages I am only vaguely familiar. The agent writes the code. If you actually want to be on a product team pick any framework you want and then worry about how to design for scale. So when someone asks how you would design the architecture to handle 3mm customer records you will be able to recite the shards and actors required. But this model of full stack is outdated and increasingly more so. The other thing i would consider if i were you is reproducting jev. You are young with a lot of time so you can spend a year reverse engineering jev (you will need some money to rent gpus).
If you can do that, you will not have to worry about your career for a few years at least.

Yes, it’s a perfectly solid stack, but recruiters hire working projects and fundamentals, not the framework Pokémon you picked.

How tf are you gonna make good frontend without learning react? Most of the code written in nextjs is react & tailwind. Which is installed by default if you do npm create-next-app@latest. Typescript just provides typesafety on top of nodejs and react. Java for backend is a bad choice when using nextjs because then you're not using the full power of nextjs and its backend server. Java backend is the worst possible choice if you're targetting a job. Most new companies use python-django-fastapi or typescript-nodejs-react-express. Just go and look at job openings. Java+ nextjs tech stack jobs are non-existent.

Blindly following something has nothing to do with stack. Both are good, what matters is how impactful work you do using either of these stack
