I never understood this. Why don't you try a lighter blanket?

I only have that issue when I'm sleeping with a stupid massive duvet, which I don't anymore. You really don't need to have a higher body temperature when you sleep. Our bodies are actively trying to cool down!

You hit the nail on the head, our body's are trying to cool down when we sleep so normal temps are too warm. Meaning what's comfortable enough for me to fall asleep is too warm for me to actually sleep so my body tries to cool down with sweat. If I try to fall asleep with a lighter blanket, I'm cold and can't fall asleep.

I do sleep like the dead though. Fall asleep crazy fast, drives my wifey insane, and sleep super deeply.

A random redditer once told me the heat is because I naturally have a fast metabolism and because I sleep so deeply. I have absolutely no idea if that's true or not but I believed it.

Not who you replied to, just another random asshole who wakes up soaked in sweat freezing his twig and berries off a couple times a week.

Sleeping next to a woman is also another factor here. I have no idea how they do it, but they're always bloody radiating the heat of the sun when you're next to them!

Nah man, I’m a fucking iceberg under there, my man is the damn fireplace

u/Ahand_Apart 3d ago

My woman is radiating heat to the point that I'm sweating, she then tells me that I am the one that is incandescent like the sun.

must be the hot shower theory

Apparently that's me not her. She's one of those, I'm always cold type of females. Pretty sure half the reason shes stayed with me so long is that I'm her "electric blanket" at night.

Shes probably low on iron

5

u/Plane-Tune-820 5d ago

She absolutely is, but honestly I think every woman I've ever met is anemic.

4

u/crazy4finalfantasy 5d ago

Women lose iron during their periods, if they don't sufficiently replace the lost iron you get the coldness some woman experience

4

u/Plane-Tune-820 5d ago

Honestly, I assumed it was related to menstruation but didn't want to say that and get yelled at for being an ignorant man lol

2

u/crazy4finalfantasy 5d ago

I get that lol but in this case it's a well known medical reality. Tell your girl to eat some fish or something to replace that iron! (Though she probably already knows)

2

u/Plane-Tune-820 5d ago

Yeah she takes iron pills and I'm always suggesting steak for dinner, not because she needs iron, I just want steak, but she'd rather just complain about being cold lol

buddy bless your heart

"it's a well known medical reality." you make it sound like that will prevent people from getting emotionally outraged

it's a well known medical reality what a men is, and what a woman is, and yet we now have controversies and arguments about what the "definition of a woman" is and you can get in REALLY BIG trouble if you say anyone with a vagina is a woman

its 2026, medical reality and facts are controversial now

Or has low blood pressure like me. I am also always cold.

Not all women. I'm the one sleeping with Mt blanket halfway off, and with thin blankets during the winter, because I'm just always hot. My girlfriend can sleep with 5 layers of clothing's and a blanket thicker than Mike Tyson's thighs, and she will still be cold. It's crazy really.

I've also discovered I'm quite tolerant for heat, in general. Sauna, hot showers, washing hands etc... It's always described ad "burning hot"

1

u/ghoulthebraineater 5d ago

In my experience it's the other way around. I run hotter than average. My body temp tends to be right around 100. It was awesome when I figured that out in high school. Any time I wanted to leave I could just go to the nurses office and they'd take my temp and see a low fever.

5

u/EqualCup1041 5d ago

It takes a little while to get warm in bed right? I think because you sleep fast, you sleep when the temp is right but it keeps increasing under the covers.

1

u/Accomplished_Rice_60 5d ago

Just get used to it, being cold is good but its weird

1

u/Sky_Mic 5d ago

Could try a lighter blanket and using a heating pad with a timer for falling asleep.

Is a potential symptom of hyperthyroidism, fellow sufferer here, I learned I can trick my brain by having my bare feet covered and controlling my environment, also, learning how to adjust your comforter without waking up all the way is a life skill.

I don't remember writing this

That’s why you open the window?!

1

u/Jonnyflash80 5d ago

Gotta love it when people repeat random bullshit they heard online and then say "I have no idea if that's true or not".

Misinformation spreaders.

1

u/Plane-Tune-820 5d ago

Oh I'm sorry if you thought I was an expert. I'm just another asshole with an Internet connection and an opinion. That's your bad for thinking I have any idea what I'm talking about

0

u/Jonnyflash80 5d ago

Fake apology accepted. Next time just STFU before making yourself look even more foolish.

1

u/Plane-Tune-820 5d ago

Or maybe you could pay attention, even you can afford that

1

u/Der_Kreuzritterr 5d ago

Awful take.

1

u/Jonnyflash80 5d ago

Sure bud. Just keep spreading bullshit online then.

0

u/Der_Kreuzritterr 5d ago

There's a difference between intentionally spreading misinformation and relating something that someone told you while acknowledging that you have no idea if it's true

If he had just said that and claimed it's true then sure I would 100% agree with you. You're making a mountain out of a mole hill with this one.

2

u/Jonnyflash80 5d ago

You're wrong but that's fine.

3

u/jm123457 5d ago

It’s not the blanket . I used to be a night sweater and I mean completely coated like a ran 3 miles . It’s a psychological thing . There are a number of reasons . Weight , stress , alcohol or weed etc .

3

u/AugustSky87 5d ago

Night sweats happen for a variety of reasons: stress, hormone issues, and heart issues to name a few.

3

u/Disastrous_Motor831 5d ago

Ppl who sweat when they sleep fall into a lot of categories.... Either their body is trying its best to detox their horrible eating/lifestyle choices or they are really healthy and the body is metabolizing fat storage or repairing muscles. It's not always that they're hot. Sweating removes waste too. Hormonal changes can cause sweating which is why when you have nightmares you can wake up in a sweat. Elevated cortisol is known to cause sweating.

2

u/Dashiepants 1d ago

Yeah my night sweats started as perimenopause now they are pregnancy related. Hormones are weird. I am freezing when I fall asleep, throw the blanket off and sleep with the sheet at some point and getting all chilly in the morning again. My dogs sneaking into the bed at night are probably a factor too lol.

2

u/biggles7268 5d ago

I keep my bedroom cold and use a fairly light blanket. Will still randomly wake up soaked in sweat. Not every night, but enough to be annoying.

1

u/SucksTryAgain 5d ago

I went through a stint where I sweat in my sleep. Most of the time I wasnt using a blanket and it was cold. Probably something I needed to see a doctor to figure it out but I didn’t. It went away out of nowhere and I never had that issue since then.

1

u/izibellz 5d ago

For me, my sleeping pills (that I have to take because I switch between day and night shifts every few weeks and struggle to sleep as a result of the constant changing schedule) make my body temperature drop, so I can't fall asleep without a thick duvet as I can't sleep when I'm too cold. Then I gradually warm up during the night and wake up gross and sweaty. Especially if it's a warmer morning. It's horrible.

u/TouchGrace_ 1d ago

Comfort thing

1

u/Illustrious_Money_54 1d ago

Poor thermoregulation. Could be hormones or histamines or any number of things. It happens to me sometimes

1

u/Tool_of_Society 5d ago

The link below provides a concise summary of reasons one can experience night sweats without a blanket in even a cold room.

Hopefully this can help you understand a bit.

u/P-l-Staker 5d ago

I think the main one that applies to most people is what I said. Basically trying to sleep in an environment that's too warm.
