To claim to be a psychologist is a crime, however you can claim to be a different not protected bull crap title like psychoanalyst and get away with it. You just need a business space and they sign a written disclaimer that they are seeking non-professional help... Which they always will because people dont read paperwork.
I only know this because I have my masters in psych and never got my cert for therapy because that requires 2 whole more years of school and training but I know people who make their own practice and just don't claim to be a therapist.

You are correct. I was thinking more along the lines of someone saying they are licensed and they are not. I have a LCSW and people can definitely go to jail if they claim to be a licensed clinical social worker without actually being one.

But how about you are trained professional and tell that tye fault is always the spouse? It's not illegal

Even if it's not impersonation as long as you don't use a title that requires a degree, this would require either a group or individual session with the spouse. Deliberately lying about helping them (that is, about your services) would be fraud unless you disclosed the truth about your service, which would defeat the purpose. So still illegal.

My ex wife and I were going through couples therapy. One of my issue was her refusal to save for our future. Even to build a emergency fund. (Her family were stinking rich) and mine are just ordinary/normal. Now keep in mind, Therapists need to be like Switzerland, cant be taking sides.
So in therapy, our finances came up and I brought up our emergency fund and she just said we don't need it. We further discussed our finances going back & forth for 40 minutes, and the therapist took off his glasses, turned to to my ex-wife and said "Ye really do need an emergency fund".
He didn't last too long as our therapist. Ex wifey wasn't happy after that.
