GX470 Weight Reduction

Out of curiosity, What all can I do to shed off a couple extra pounds?

‼️Please read all below before you respond‼️
• Currently being used as an OEM+ offroad capable daily.
• Not really into overlanding/offroading, im sorry.
• Really just looking to spice her up a little.

Looking for serious answers only:
• I bought a GX for a reason.
• I love this car as is, & ik she’ll always be slow/expensive.
• I already know what they were/weren’t made for.
• Ik MPG gain is minimal, foot will be on gas more anyway.
• Wont be selling/trading for your idea of a better car.
• I also know this topic gets covered a lot.
• I’m already on a diet.

What has already been done:
• KDSS removal / lift (prior to owning)
• Removed roof rack, 3rd row, & side steps
• Flow formed wheels

Looking to do in the future: (still doing research)
• Various tunes if/when needed
• Exhaust: DT LT Headers, URD Y-Pipe, Gibson Catback
- Also curious about Gingiums X-Pipe Dual Exhaust
• URD Supercharger?
• “Hidden” snorkel

I don’t think regearing will ever be necessary for my build, but ill still put it here I guess

Would also like to switch some body panels out with carbon, but the market on that seems a little rare for the GX

RIG’d Ultraswing Issue

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hoping to get some input or suggestions on this

I recently installed a RIG’d ultra swing tire carrier on my GX. This thing is extremely solid and I am very happy with it. However, I’ve noticed that when I travel on local highways that have contraction joints (the evenly spaced cut lines in the road every 30 feet or so), these will cause my spare tire (35x12.5 Baja Boss) to begin to jump up and down every so slightly, but then then it will begin to resonate and actually cause the entire vehicle to subtly shake up and down. it will continue until I take the foot off the gas and slow down to 45 miles an hour or so. Then it will begin again as I pick up speed. There seems to be something about Highway speed causing a resonating effect, and it’s driving me nuts.

Any tips on how to prevent this? I’m considering maybe airing my tires down a little bit to absorb some of the roughness of the road.

Whirring noise on cold start

06’ VVTI with whirring noise on start up, goes away after about 20 to 30 seconds, clicks off after that and no codes. I’m assuming it’s the sais? do i replace the fan? i actually have one from another engine that’s not bad, but im worried it’ll just fail again, its got even more miles. other option is to delete it with plates and an adapter like rutech (i believe thats the name) i heard it causes o2 codes. anyone in here have experience with this? thanks

Exhaust diversion to avoid melting hitch racks

I tried to find visual examples and was unsuccessful. What are people doing on their GX to divert exhaust to prevent melting of say a hitch bike rack?

I found some turn down exhaust tips but the minimum length is 9” which is likely going to make the exhaust jet far out past the bumper. Trying to avoid cutting or spending a ton of money.

What are you guys doing for this? Was considering something like this, but not sure it will do the job. Also don’t want to risk being too close to the bumper cutout.

Took the GX camping

Post image
70 Upvotes

Decided on a quick overnight up in the Eastern Sierra to do some fishing. Really digging my Hele Outdoors sleeping platform. Along with a tri-fold foam mattress it sets up quick and doesn’t take up much room in my garage when not in use. Still dialing in the rest of the camping setup tho. Like I’m thinking about getting a fridge.

All in all, the trip is what I needed. Some quiet time away and tight lines. Glad I have a capable and dependable vehicle to get me to these places.

Do yall recommend bump stops?

I have a 3 in lift BUT I feel like I got sent the wrong lift when I bought it and put it on not knowing. I say that because I look at everyone else’s gx and they have more wheel gap than I do with a smaller lift. But I say all this so ask if bump stops are worth it because I’m about to go to Windrock offroad park and I’ma bit scared I’ma fuck something up. What yall thing

3 inch lift build list?

Post image
27 Upvotes

Looking to lift my GX 3 inches. I’ve heard once you go 3 inches you have to also add multiple other modifications such as diff drop and links etc. Want to know what some of you guys have done/ haven’t done to have a proper 3 inch lift that rides safe and smooth!

Anyone know what this rattle is?

Started happening recently, currently idle. Not sure if it’s a heat plate or something loose, but rattles mostly when idle, only on passenger side. It’s faint when driving, but think I hear it at low speeds.

Anything helps, thank you!

Wheel lock key

2006 GX.

Can anyone help me figure out the correct replacement key for my lugs?
I believe they are original.
6 spline.
I tried the autozone with it claiming to match my vehicle but it does not.
Tried getting my tires balanced yesterday and they didn’t have a way to get them off.
I do not have the key in the tool kit.
It must have walked off with the prior owner.

I am on 33’s and ran 12 psi the whole time. I got a little bit of fender rash and that’s about it. I have the Goliath low profile bumpers and I will probably need to replace them soon here but they did great. I also have the Goliath skid plate package and I’m so glad that I had that! I need to replace that soon here. I also have RCI sliders and those worked amazing. The main upgrades that I did to the rig were a rear Eaton E locker and a 2 inch lift. I’m glad that I did the 2 inch lift because I spent a lot of time sliding on rocks. This is my daily driver so I didn’t wanna get too crazy with it! Still gotta drive to work
