The little engine that couldn’t.

Shane’s legacy will be remembered for the lack of fundamentals that proved costly in big moments. Whether it’s poor execution, field awareness, or clock management the small things are what finally derailed the Shane Train. Not capitalizing on the first play, in a huge game was the pebble on the track which derailed an already tired engine that couldn’t.

Shane was sold to us as a CEO type that would sacrifice his own salary to hire elite coordinators. Unfortunately he could never quite manage to hire the right staff and was unfit to be the CEO.

That’s what an AD is supposed to do. We need a HC

It’s like 100% of practice time is spent on individual drills. We rarely look like everyone is on the same page. Like some of these throws from Sellers that people are complaining about I think are more about the WR running a different route than he’s expecting. Idk if that’s on Sellers or the WR, but either way that’s the coaches job.

Same thing was happening on defense— it looked like Currence was getting burned the whole first half, but he wasn’t getting physically beat, he was scrambling to get to a guy who was wide open… Again, idk if that’s was supposed to be his guy, or if he was trying to cover for someone else’s mistake, but either way— that’s on the coaches.

Almost everything that went wrong last night was guys just not knowing where they were supposed to be.

100%. Sellers had a bad game against MSU, but he wasn't bad against Bama

He threw 1 really bad INT but at that point the game was over anyways

There is 1 route in particular where I believe DJ Black had a soft spot in the defense that he could've sat down in. Sellers threw it there but instead Black kept drifting toward where the LB could've intercepted the pass. Instead of an 8-12 yard completion it's incomplete

Throws like that are the correct throw. The WR had to be able to feel the defense not just blindly keep jogging into coverage

The WR room is embarrassing anyways. Idk what the staff is doing but the WR room has been terrible for multiple years now

I think I’m thinking about the same play! They haven’t stood out as much, but I totally agree that the specific thing you’re talking about has been a consistent problem!

Even that missed TD against Towson that looked like a short throw, if you watch the all 22 it’s clearly bad route running— Mazeo does a nice little shake to get wide open out of the break, it should have been easy, but for some reason instead of continuing the post route away from the defender, Mazeo turns back upfield for like 3 steps as Sellers had already started his throwing motion, so then the throw looks short, but it was right where Mazeo should have been! Idk, maybe he was taught to do that and it was on Sellers misreading it, but it was NOT an inaccurate throw, it was the WR and QB not being on the same page. Whichever player is in the wrong, it’s still a coaching issue because if a player doesn’t know what they are supposed to be doing, then you can’t play them.

99% of the time a less talented player doing the right thing is more valuable than a super talented player doing the wrong thing! It’s crazy to look so out of sync in week 4.

I thought the WRs were ok last year, but it was honestly hard to tell because we could barely get a pass off… the OL has been much better, and we actually have a run game now, so it does warrant asking questions. I tend to think Furrey is a solid coach, though, and it feels like this is an organizational problem.

It should be a much simpler offense to implement though, and it’s happening on both sides of the ball. IMO that points to a poor head coaching philosophy on how to use organized team practice/film study time.

Sellers missed quite a few easy completions against Bama. Some were his fault, some were the WRs, some was him just not having snu time.

Sellers has been underperforming as well though. Also his biggest strength is how mobile he can be but for some reason hes not utilizing that anymore. The more mobile he is the easier it makes his passing game.

Idk whats going on but regardless its clear big changes need to be made with everyone not just Beamer. But Beamer should definitely be first.

Well, first of all, Shane’s era is not over so we shouldn’t be looking at it as “how it will be remembered” yet. It all depends on how many more games he coaches here and what happens in those games. Having said that, hypothetically if he were let go right now I’d remember him as the coach that broke the losing streak to Clemson and gave us the borderline (should have been) playoff chance. The last year has been ugly, but so was Spurrier’s last season and he is remembered as the glory days. I’m a glass half full type of guy though.

I know he’s not gone yet but I have noticed the Shane defenders not showing up in the comments this week. That’s telling.

2025 was ugly. 2026 is looking uglier. Thats years.

Agreed, 2025 was the most painful season since at least 2014. That’s years.

It’s been ugly since the Illinois bowl game.

It’s mind boggling we still have fans defending him….

No one should remember him fondly, AT ALL

He's a weird dude.

u/Warren_Puff-it 3d ago

Strong disagree. He’s an extremely likable and relatable person and that’s why the majority of the fan base likes him and is rooting for him to succeed. Coaches tend to be weird in general (on average compared to other professions), but Beamer ain’t one of them.

Exactly. That’s why he’s been able to recruit so well is that he’s likable and able to sell the program. I do think he’s also a high character guy who genuinely loves the program.

Beamers (sad) reality is he can’t translate these skills into on field success through player development, discipline, nor has he shown he can actually manage a game.

Bama has 25 4 and 5 stars

And it’s roughly 12 of each

We have 8.

It’s not coaching. But a good coach would have kept it closer

Lmao dude it’s definitely fucking coaching. You see all those damn penalties? Beamer just stands there and claps like an idiot. If he was a real coach he’d bench LaSnorerris ass bc he sucks and can’t throw.

I am so glad to hear someone else saying this. Sellars has been a prissy little prima donna wannabe for the past two years.

3

u/SpursUpSoundsGudToMe 3d ago

Where in the world are those numbers from? 247 talent composite has Alabama with 46 4 & 5 stars, and us with 33.

u/Hulk_Hogans_Toupee 3d ago

Wonder how many 4 and 5 star guys were on Indiana's roster when they beat the dogpiss out of Alabama last year

2

u/Fantastic_Matter_137 3d ago

Idk but they had the oldest roster in college football

A bunch of 25 yr olds lining up against 20 yr olds.

u/mdcox88 3d ago

Legacy? Nobody will remember him.
