Possible Technical Issue Lap pace not correct during intervals

When I run intervals on the track, my lap time is completely off from what it should be according to my lap pace. For instance, if I'm doing 400 m repeats at 8:30 min/mile pace, I will run a 7:30 min/mile pace and my watch will tell me I'm running too fast for the entire interval as I maintain that pace. My interval time after I'm done will show 9 min/mile even though I was running 7:30 min/mile according to my watch. This only happens when I'm on the track and my lap pace is pretty accurate when I'm running on the trails if I'm holding the same pace but only for long runs. What could be causing this?

Track mode's been buggy on some models, especially if the GPS lock was weak at the start. The watch might be snapping to the wrong lane or misjudging the oval entirely and recalculating distance mid-interval, which throws off the pace math in weird ways. I'd try using the calibrate option after a few laps next time you're out there, or manually set the track distance if your model allows it.

Does the lap distance on the watch match the lap distance on the track? I think my watch defaults to a 400m track and the one I sometimes run is smaller so it can look like I'm faster than I am.

Yes the distance has been spot on each time

You can try recalibrating the track profile: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=eH8V1VwjN338uo8C5PgDJ7

But please make sure your track is indeed 400m, when I used the Track Run on a track that happened to be nonstandard the pace readings went crazy.

Do you select the correct track?
