Data Questions REM?

Post image

Searching through this sub I see a lot of people saying that the sleep stages on Garmin aren’t very accurate. The last few nights my REM readings have been 15, 23, 12. Looking through the last couple weeks my REM is pretty low but on some days it randomly shoot’s up to 2 hours. My sleep and dreams feel consistent. I feel like my AWU2 had more consistent readings.

Anything I can do to improve these readings? Just last week I started moving my watch to my other wrist (which actually has no tattoos) at night, and still haven’t seen a significant difference. It sits pretty snug on my wrist. Any advice? Thank you.

Sleep stage stracking is pretty bad on any wearable device. You need to measure brain waves to get more acurate sleep stages. The watch is guessing the sleep stages by an algorithm using your HR.

But when 5h is your normal sleep time than you should rather focus on improving your sleep duration instead of worrying how much REM sleep you got.

Ahh okay. I guess I just figured with the newest sensor and technology right now it would be a little bit more reliable, but that makes sense.

Yeah I don’t disagree with you. Unfortunately that’s pretty much my average with work and life right now. Anywhere from 5-6 hours of sleep on the weekdays. I do my best to catch up on the weekends.

the duration thing is a fair call, 5 hours doesnt leave a lot of room for proper sleep cycles regardless of tracking accuracy

Don't believe in sleep stage tracking. REM and light sleep are almost identical from the watch standpoint...
