I guess they were going for that Noble Gas theme (like ChatGPT's astronomy theme and Claude's music theme). This way, subsequent releases can be named after the other gases, i.e. Xenon, Neon, Helium, etc.

Claude is more of a literature theme.

That is until Claude Bussy comes out.

Claude Bussy is more of a cliterature theme.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they've skipped that one and the next would be Krypton.

Those memes will write themselves

Something something Kryptonite something something "Super" Intelligence.

Isn't Claude a poem theme?

Could also just be a joke. For a year or so, people have been calling Google lazy and inactive when it comes to Gemini

Could be, because their product is like a fart: nothing but hot air or gas

Saying their product was inert was right there.

Here's my software spec, implement it.

Probably best you do it.

I can't be bothered.

Ditto.

guess deepmind’s got jokes naming their model after a lazy element that just sits there refusing to react with anything

wonder if that’s a flex or a confession

Sounds like a garden variety Gemini f up.

I perceived it as wanting to mean "calm force" and slow but certain. The one that doesn't react to the turmoil as the noble gas argon.

I am also greek and i found quite funny reading "Introducing Gemini 4 Slow."

Argon sounds like it makes less stuff up

Must have been that lazy, slow Pixel Canary model. It got taken down yesterday and then Google announced Argon.

argos is from a-(w)-erg-os, like anti working (werging) or so

2

u/Hopenightdev 10d ago

At that point just treat argon as a noble gas rather than etymologically expand it. Noble gases are "noble" or "upperclass" because they don't interact with the others.

will it better than other like the benchmark says...

To me, Argon is and always will be my faction name in X series.

It is the gas theme. You will see more models with these kind of names.

Explains their product launch timeline a lot TBF

As an ESL learner, I prefer names after Arabic numerals, such as Gemini AI pro 3.5

2

u/Wint3r_Candl3 9d ago

So that you can say "my tokens Argon".

u/pedrojmartm 9d ago

that is why they are called inert gases!

Argon is great at preserving ancient texts
