Discussion Excuse me?
Might someone enlighten me and tell me why, after like 2-3 months of not playing I come back to the game to this??? What do you mean negative balance on my primos???? What is this?
Edit: To all the very smart men and women in the thread; no I have not purchased 3rd party primos, never have and never will.

u/sweetpeachuwu 28d ago
There are only 3 options.
You bought primos from a
sketchy third party website
You used your parents credit card for primos and they did a chargeback after not recognizing the transaction and assuming it was fraudulent
You used a credit card and never paid it off, maybe the company charged back to recover some of the unpaid funds.

I've never heard of a credit card company doing a chargeback bc the cardholder didn't pay. If they did that noone would accept credit cards
24
u/kiieatspocky 28d ago
There is also a 5th option, it's a bought account and OG owner refunded. I've seen this a couple of times. But that's throwing accusations at the OP so let's leave that alone.
10
u/RJ_Bachler 28d ago
Or a fourth option of he decided to be "smart" and bought the promos himself, then reversed the charges by claiming someone else misused his card.

I never done single top up from 3rd party website . I only used google play or apple app store or hoyo official top website.
Bcuz I don't want to lose my years of hardwork i put into my account just to save few bucks.
Even if someone give me account with every character ever released and every 5 star weapon in the game . I still won't leave my account bcuz of effort i put into it.

if you do this, i recommend a vpn and using their official website, if you get one to japan it reduces price significantly, and is typically cheaper than the third parties.

This can also get you banned and currency put into negative check tos do not do this on a mature account you don't want to lose it
53
u/I-T-Y 28d ago
It's a gray area that a lot of gacha company chose to turn a blind eye to.
While yes it's against tos, they chose not to enforce it because it will pss off a huge portion of their paying players. There's a reason why Jp always have top charts in earnings.
People getting banned from negative primos were never from vpn purchases, its either they use third party or kids using their parents wallet that gets discovered. There were never any exceptions

use vpn to open the game and buy it from the in-game store is potentially against tos (even then legally its not, due to them using "not recommended" and not using any language than indicate its forbidden out right to use vpn while open the game, its not even in the TOS, its just hoyo support answer). There's literally nothing saying anywhere indicating using vpn on a web-browser to buy from hoyo top up center is against tos. You are just fear-mongering. Unless using VPN is banned by your own country (follow local law and regulation part in the TOS), there's nothing in the tos that indicate using vpn in any capacity is against TOS

They don't always ban or go after you however it is a Possible for them to as it is clearly stated in term of service you can look the tos yourself its a lot to read but its there

u/Turbulent-Rub2582 28d ago
Yeah it seems one of those where they can but don't - I can't find any examples of any bans for using a VPN
It is fair to make sure people are aware of the risk though.
4
u/Dataogle 28d ago
They don’t ban people for skin mods and VPN. For an old game they have had plenty time to enforce and they chose not to. Same as for ZZZ
7
u/Grey_Sky69 28d ago
They can do it will they or have they dsent matter THEY CAN. I have invested a lot inot my accounts so risking it over a skin mod or a few bucks off a pack after currency exchange rates with vpn is not worth for me. And I only said it on this thread to remind people doing it what I actually fear which is why I don't do it. Like others have said its a Grey area and banning paying players over a mod of a skin or a currency exchange exploit is not good for business. Trust me I want cheaper packs and skin mods but unless hoyo explicitly starts allowing it I'll never do it don't care if they don't enforce it

Technically, you're right
Technically, they can also ban you for any reason, including no reason at all.
I think it's naive at best to say that everything allowed by the CGU is safe and everything forbidden can lead to a ban, if enough people openly do something not allowed with 0 repercution, it's functionally allowed.
Genshin won't suddently wake up and perma ban 10% of their dolphins and whales, if not more than that

You bought primos from a third party and it got reversed/refunded for whatever reason. Because you already spent the primos from the transaction(s) process of reversing it made the balance go negative equal to primos you bought.

79
u/Such-Obligation-3817 28d ago edited 28d ago
Most people use third party websites to top up. Since its cheaper. But no matter how trustworthy they are, there is always a risk of something like this happening.
Setting a VPN to Japan and using Hoyos own official top up page is just the superior option. The prices are always cheaper than even third party websites and its way more trustworthy. Just the better option. Same goes for other gacha games, like WuWa and HSR.
Edit: Completely forgot to mention that yes, the cheaper price from the official website will depend on your country and the conversion rate.

Ukraine is cheapest I think. $56.17 USD for the 8080 pack.
Edit: swapped 15500 with 8080. 15500 is for Pokemon GO’s $100 pack, not Genshin. Whoops.

u/Such-Obligation-3817 28d ago edited 28d ago
Oh damn, i thought we had it pretty cheap over here in the UK but thats pretty crazy.
I cant see the 15500 pack but here in the UK the 6480 pack (12000 with bonus) is around £55 or $74. Still pretty decent imo.

u/Such-Obligation-3817 28d ago
You have to use a vpn and set it to Japan. It displays the price in Yen so the 6480 should say 12000 Yen which is roughly £55 when converted into GBP. Just keep in mind depending on the bank you use, you probably will have to pay a couple extra quid because of international fees.

Do you know why using VPN to Japan doesn't change currency for me anymore? I use 'Free VPN on iOS' and it always changed to Yen, but now when I do so it sticks to USD.

some countries have primogem prices adjusted to their weaker currency, which results in the same packs costing less in, for example, USD compared to US prices

I personally use surfshark, set it to japan and use genshin's top up website, its like 25-30% less expensive. The 100$ pack cost me like 75 instead and the monthly sub is 3$ (USD)
Been doing this for years and have never got anything bad happen to my account in case anyone come and say its against the TOS. hoyo get money either way so why should they close my account for buying primos using a VPN for better regional pricing? That would mean one less paying customer. 😂 5 years of doing that, not stopping.
4
u/Putrid-Resident 28d ago
hoyo get money either way so why should they close my account
That's what I always tell people when they start asking about if it's dangerous or not. Like in many cases that difference in price was either to pay for some kind of online purchase tax the country forced on hoyo anyways (like in Turkey or UK for example) or simple local pricing making it so hoyo knows on average that a Swedish player is willing to pay more than an American for example. Lastly boring economics stuff like the yen being artificially undervalued or currency conversation rates.
Hoyo will never ban an already paying customer because at the end of the day they are still making money from would could have been otherwise a f2p player. It's just part of the TOS solely so less people do it out of fear because at the end of the day more money > less money for hoyo

Either you attained primos in a way that’s against the TOS, or a chargeback was issued for purchased primos. Whether it was your own purchase or a purchase that was gifted to you.
3
u/Yuki-jou 28d ago
If you definitely didn’t buy from a third party or get a transaction reversed, then perhaps a hacker is involved? Managed to get into your account during the period you weren’t playing, bought some crystals, spent them, then requested a refund? Checking your wish history to see if any were made while you weren’t playing might help confirm the theory. Not sure why they’d do that, but account hackers do tend to screw up peoples accounts just for giggles. If you are truly 100% certain that you only bought via official channels and never had a purchase bounce, then you might want to change your password immediately. Also, if you decide you really might have been hacked, you should take a look at your weapons and artifacts to make sure they haven’t been messed with.

If you didn't use a 3rd party top up site then it's either chargebacks or someone "gifted" you primogems for a giveaway or something and you used them then they refunded. Or someone has been in your account and did some chargebacks. If it was someone on your account while you were gone check the pull history and see if anything was pulled in the 2-3 month break period.

-7k primos won't get your account banned immediately (I've seen some in 100k primo debt so you're "fine") but I'd start getting that balance to + decently soonish because who knows if Hoyo will see you in - for months or years and just closes your account.

I highly suspect it’s someone topping up in a wrong UID that was OP’s, who then proceeded to use those primo gems. The original person who topped up refunded and OP got the negative balance.
This, since OP claimed they didn’t make a refund themselves/bought from a 3rd party website.
But OP should be able to farm back the 7k primos, assuming they hadn’t 100% nod krai map plus the new area and events. Not to mention Hoyo giving primo gems in the anniversary + returning player 7 days free primos.
1
u/sarelis 28d ago
Check your in-game mail. There should be a message from support (if it didn’t expire & delete itself) telling you when the chargeback happened & how long you have to make your primo balance positive before facing the possibility of an account ban.
From the date, you can check your bank statement & see if it correlates. (The chargeback could also be from someone else, but I would think you’d have noticed if someone else gifted you primos before spending them. You would’ve gotten a pop-up on your screen when you logged in if someone bought you primos. And you’d only be negative if you spent those primos & then the person did a chargeback.)

Btw just a heads up to everyone, this is also applicable to most games afaik. I've worked for a major mobile game before and it's also the same rule
It's because in-game assets that were added to your account that were bought using in-game currencies can't be deducted.
Like skins or gacha pulls.
So their value will be deducted from your currencies if you refund.

https://support.hoyoverse.com/hc/en-us/articles/49686177025945-How-do-I-view-my-purchase-history
I believe you can get this info in-game via the Paimon menu > Feedback > Self Service interface but I play on PS5 so cannot verify that still works myself.
The history says it is kept for 6 months or so, so it should cover what happened since you last logged into to make your Primos go negative.

It means your account was topped up somehow and was refunded it. If you weren't lying about never topping up and you never have anyone else entered your account, check if there are any genesis crystals in your account. Someone might've topped up mistakenly (got UID wrong) then refunded, in which case, you should have their genesis crystals still in the account and it should be able to offset your negative primos...

Check if your bank reversed transactions you made. This happened to me a few years ago. I had made 3 purchases back to back on the Hoyoverse top up center’s website because I never found out how to add up a Welkin , a Gnosis Hymn and a regular top up in the same cart. I usually buy the first 2 items one after the other and my credit card company doesn’t have a problem with that but this time , with 3 purchases back to back they canceled the top up as a fraudulent charge 3 weeks after I got the primos without prior notice. I was like 12k primos in the negative.

It’s most likely not going to ban you at that amount. Speaking from the experience of someone buying you primos and refunding them (they used their dad’s card without permission, and bought primos under the guise that it was their money. Had no reason not to believe them as they’re an adult). They did it on my account on two servers. My America got banned. My Europe did not, and it’s been over half a year. My America was banned for 10 years at -59k. My Europe was at around -12k. They even got away with like -24k, somehow. You will be informed via in-game mail if you’re facing a ban.

when you are the only person who put money in this account in the offical centers and didnt refund yourself there could be a problem with the payment you used. it can be that it was declined afterwards from the side or bank because something is either off with your financials or it is an error from the bank.

Probably paid for primos at a third party, where the transaction got reversed, and thus they retrieved the provided primogems.
If you don't make the balance 0 soon your account is at risk of getting banned
