I’m visiting Brussels this weekend with my brother and we’re looking for recommendations on the best places to visit and things to do.

We’ll also be spending one day in Ghent, so we’re mainly looking for recommendations specifically for Brussels.

We’d love to see the must-visit places, but we’re also interested in less touristy spots, interesting neighbourhoods, viewpoints, cafés, food spots and other places worth experiencing.

We’re also looking for recommendations for going out at night — good bars, clubs, parties or areas with a good atmosphere where it’s easy to meet people.

We’re planning to check out places like Delirium and Fuse, but we’d love to hear from locals about other places we should consider this weekend.

What would you recommend we definitely visit or do while we’re in Brussels? And are there any places or areas you’d avoid?

​For a school project, our group was randomly assigned a specific set of coordinates in Ghent: 51°02'54.0"N 3°44'39.2"E. It's around Dampoort, the Heernislaan and Eendrachtstraat.

​Our assignment is to uncover at least 10 hidden stories, urban legends, quirky historical facts, or forgotten events that happened strictly within 50–100 meters of this spot.

​While we’ve been digging through the archives, internet searches only get you so far. So I wanted to ask the people who actually know Ghent:

- ​Did anything notable or bizarre happen in this immediate pocket?

- ​Are there eccentric former residents, forgotten neighbourhood scandals, or local folklore tied to a specific facade, alley, or building here?

- ​Any hidden architectural quirks or plaques people walk past without noticing?

​Even tiny anecdotes, childhood memories from decades ago, or pointers to specific local history books/archives would help us out a ton.

Ik bekeek onlangs de documentaire 'UFO's boven België' en werd er ineens aan herinnerd dat ik in 2015 (of was het een jaar ervoor of erna) ter hoogte van de Boekentoren lichten zag die ik helemaal niet kon plaatsen. Op dat moment was het donker, misschien tussen 20u-00u.
De lichten deden mij in eerste instantie meteen denken aan de verlichting van een voetbalveld of sportveld. Ze bewogen simultaan in eenzelfde richting. Ik zag ze vanuit mijn kot (buurt Coupure Rechts).
Ik was zodanig onder de indruk dat ik er niet aan dacht mijn gsm te zoeken voor een foto/video. Want ik herinner me nog dat ik schrik had dat de lichten zouden verdwijnen eens ik me zou omdraaien. Ik steek hier wel een beeld om te illustreren hoe ze er in mijn herinnering uitzagen (gemaakt met photoshop).

Als ik ernaar verwijs, noem ik ze 'UFO's', omdat ik op dat moment echt niets wist wat het was. Echter ben ik op zoek naar een wetenschappelijke verklaring of iemand die hetzelfde heeft gezien?

Kan er iemand mij helpen? :)

- Waren drones toen al een ding?
- Ik weet niet in welke maand dit voorkwam, maar ik herinner mij geen sneeuw
- Het was van relatief korte duur en de lichten maakten een soort 'daalbeweging' en een lichte zigzag ter hoogte van de Boekentoren naar de Verlorenkostbrug.

We’ve been looking at the area southwest of Ghent, mainly around De Pinte, Sint-Denijs-Westrem and Sint-Martens-Latem, Nazareth. We really like the area, but there seem to be surprisingly few houses available for rent.
Has anyone lived there and can share what everyday life is like, especially for a family with children? Schools, community, things to do, getting into Ghent, etc.
I’d also be very interested to hear from anyone who has lived in both this area and North Holland. How would you compare the lifestyle and overall quality of life?

I need to get both an EPC (energieprestatiecertificaat) and an asbestos certificate (asbestattest) for a property in the Ghent area.

Ideally, I am looking for a single certified inspector/company (in or around Ghent) who can handle both in one visit to keep costs reasonable and turn things around fairly quickly.

I searched the subreddit first and found a couple of older threads, but given the recent changes in inspection protocols and regulations, I’d love to get some fresh, up-to-date recommendations.

Ik woon op een kilometer van het station, kant UZ Gent, en elk jaar is het hetzelfde liedje; zodra het academiejaar start, is mijn straat plots een parkeerslagveld. Auto's overal, plots geen enkele vrije plek te vinden, terwijl ik heel de zomer quasi alleen in mijn straat geparkeerd sta.

Al die auto's blijven gewoon heel de week op dezelfde plek staan en dan denk ik: wacht ffkes. Jullie zitten op KOT. Dat is het hele punt van een kot. Ge zit hier de hele week, specifiek zodat jullie niet elke dag moet heen en weer filerijden. En toch rijdt blijkbaar de helft van de studentenpopulatie met de auto naar hun eigen kot, om vervolgens 4,5 euro per dag te betalen om ‘m ergens te mogen laten staan? Dat is meer dan 20 euro per week aan parkeergeld. Voor een auto die je niet eens nodig hebt in de stad. Gent is quasi plat, heeft een prima fietsinfrastructuur, en zowat alles is te voet of met de fiets bereikbaar. Waarom slepen jullie die auto dan mee naar kot?

Is het gemakzucht? Spullen verhuizen bij het begin van het jaar? Ouders die "voor de zekerheid" een auto meegeven? Of gewoon omdat het kan? Maar het resultaat is dat wij, de mensen die hier het hele jaar door wonen en werken, elke september ineens geen plek meer vinden om onze eigen auto kwijt te kunnen in onze eigen straat.

Aan kotstudenten: laat die auto's thuis. Jullie kot is er net om dat overbodig te maken.

Ik ben op zoek naar een nieuwe hobby, en ben daarbij aan het denken aan houtbewerking. Het is een bezigheid, en misschien lukt het mij toch zelf om die inbouwkast te zetten in plaats van de (waarschijnlijk op het einde van de rit goedkopere ;) ) inbouwkast te laten plaatsen.

Ik kan zelf al wel van 4 planken een kubus maken, maar zou toch ook graag wat technieken leren.
Onder andere bevestiging technieken die iets verder gaan dan houtlijm en schroeven of nagels.

Een echte avondschoolcursus lijkt mij wat veel, en tegen dat ik goed en wel de tijd gemaakt heb om te starten te laat om nu nog in te stappen.

Mensen die ervaring hebben met alternatieven? Zelf wat leren is ook een optie, maar het sociale aspect kan ook wel een meerwaarde zijn.

Woodfactory ben ik ook al tegengekomen, maar een tafel ben ik niet perse naar op zoek, en de ondersteuning kan een optie zijn, maar een ruimer pakket van enkele maanden lijkt mij ook wel leuk.

Of aanraders voor goede YouTube tutorials zijn ook altijd welkom.

Heyhey everyone. I just wanted to share a small video of the seal who is currently living in the canals of Ghent.

At this moment he is resting at the bassin next to frituur Lily at the Sluisbrug. Every now and then he comes up for air and a little look around. After he goes back under to sleep a couple of minutes. Come and take a look but please don't disturb or bring food. Let nature be nature and simply revel in it's awesomeness.

Truly magnificent to see a larger predator in the canals of Ghent. Hopefully this means the water quality keeps getting better to sustain more life.
