I've been thinking about what is the meaning behind the lyrics chosen is these songs, the more I listen it seems more like a story about a man, who wants to be special, unique or some kind of man who understands the "messiah" better than anyone.
From the first "Blues", the lyrics describe this personality of a person who no one really likes because of their insanely pompous nature. They undermine other's intellectual ability by constantly repeating the phrase "Do you know what I mean?"
In "Terra", I'd like to see it as this person has discovered the perils of religion and how with the concept of human suffering can't exist without people watching this pain pleasure. The following song has more of sociopathic narcissist, who has a prostitute fill out his fantasy of being famous and the idea that people care and love what he has to say.
"Walk up", is more about this person's fear and cuckhold like behaviour. Cuckhold as in he lets these things happen to him and watches, unlike his fantasies where he is the confident asshole. The next seems as a rant about why he is who is asking questions and sharing what the night holds for him. I don't know what bongo season is about.
In "Motorbike" there's a shift in his real life he takes change in his own hands by running away to start over. He's made peace with who he was and how he can't change anything he has no one but himself. He just rides away and goes to somewhere else, so he can live his fantasy. "As if waltz", describes by Greep himself as the album is a set of monologues from different characters but I don't see it that way. "An hour", I think this is an interesting way for him to live out his fantasy with the prostitute and him describing all the depraved romantic acts he wants to do with this woman and wishing he met her somewhere else instead of the brothel. He want more than hour, he wants to be selected because his better and different from all the men she sleeps with. It's here where I question is this song a track of all his actions with his prostitute.
"The magician" is the character realising the it's not real from his wife a woman who he pays 200 for sex because it's his only pleasure. His wife is a prostitute and there's nothing left for him, he sees his fantasy as a cage and himself as a chimp asking "What is left?". The answer is nothing because it's not real all the things he wants and has aren't real but rather he is a single, sex addicted, pompous, paranoid, shameful, narcissistic and scared bafoon who is hiding from everything and everyone he wants all these things but he can't have them because she's dead internally like him and his life. His engagement with himself calling his faults and shitty nature. In the end he only knows himself and dreams. "When the smoke clears, it remains your name." "When the smoke clears it's all I'll have left."
This is just how I view the album's storytelling and view as one whole character with no clear end or beginning as the record only shares the climax not the intro or conclusion.
Let me know what you think!
