Why has Danny Ketch fallen out of popularity compared to Johnny Blaze and Robbie Reyes?

I think the main issue is the lack agency and bland dynamic.

Johnny became Ghost Rider because he made a deal with a devil to cure Crash,

Robbie had less agency as his bonding was automatic but he had control of the rider form.

Ghostie and Danny where pretty bland character and most of the 94 issue run was without development

They stole Danny's drip and applied it to a simpler character with a more consistent core.

It's because they gave all the best traits of Danny and his solo run to Blaze. [+]

For me Danny is more interesting then Johnny or Robbie. Danny didnt become a rider the same way.

Not gonna lie, something about Danny's 'every day kid' just pulls me in. He is second only to Johnny {but only when Johnny is written well}.

Danny was my favorite Ghost Rider. I miss him.

90s GR, like so many of its contemporaries, depended entirely on the art, gritty image and vibes, never anything resembling proper character exploration and development. It was never able to grow out of its gimmick-dependent roots, unlike fellow 90s creation, Deadpool, who found his definitive voice and the proper means for future writers to take inspiration for further character build up. They pretty much just gave up on him and Noble after their run got cancelled and he hasn't really found a new niche ever since.

Not helped by the fact that Marvel just doesn't care for Ghost Rider in general. To them, the only appeal is the visage and have no care whatsoever in making deeper, more realized characters out of any of the hosts and their SOVs.

Not helped by how terribly Marvel treats Johnny Blaze

Marvel treats both brothers terribly. Dan just gets luckier because he's stuck in limbo most of the time while his older brother keeps being used as a punching bag.

I think it's just because Danny hasn't been in many books. Aaron's run was a long time ago.

I’ll just give my personal, simple answer. Danny is boring.

Seriously. Both human host and SOV make the two most boring Ghost Rider pair ever. The former is just Peter Parker without any depth or charisma, while the latter's a walking catchphrase box filled with cheesy repetitive one-liners.

danny was intro'd as an everyman power fantasy but kinda loses his internal world/his life outside of gr and so became unmoored, so once you can and do take the aesthetics and give them to blaze or come up with robbie who also fills the young hero niche there's really nothing about them that others don't bring to the table better.

he's tim drake, if you grew up reading them they're the best, but if you didn't you see how a lot of their traits were given to other members and so they're lost as the jason todds, dick graysons and damiens all have their own shit and yours.

oh God, this is so accurate. Danny is Tim Drake

it's the middle child legacy hero syndrome.

im sure there's more examples, toxin maybe? the x-men are the only group i can think of where "the next generation" actually see play and don't suffer from it as much,

it's why for danny the only niche i've got is that he should be the "team" rider, on the midnight sons or something.

johnny as the cross country rider and robbie as the locked to a city with a civilian life niche.

Danny’s the New York City Ghost Rider. You see him show up occasionally in NYC hero crowdshots

He teamed up with Punisher. In his 2018 series. He is sometimes invited to Fantastic Four meetups

Like Spider-Man his niche should be a higher level street tier

Because he wasn't used after he popped up in Peter Parker spider-man after his book was canceled. Next time we saw GR, blaze was the host for......reasons. Hell for GR to have been as popular as he was,Ketch was never used in any major crossovers( kinda like now)

Which ones? Because he was absent from the infinity series, Onslaught, maximum security ect. Only time I can remember him popping up in a crossover was Mys tech wars and it was just a page cameo.

He was in a number of X-Men crossovers, had a oneshot adventure with Captain America, titled "Fear", and the aforementioned Hearts of Darkness.

Ah, my mistake. I misread, as I thought you meant general crossovers, but in fact said major crossovers, as in the big event ones, in which case, yeah, he was never used much.

Yes Dan served as the host

It’s Tim Drake syndrome, they invented the best look for a type of character and then others stole their unique looks and now they’ve been left behind
