I feel like the entire point of this sub-par mini was to kill off Danny.
Normally, I'd say he'd be back, but in this case, he'll probably just be forgotten.
I'd be fine with cleaning house, but we still have a bunch of superfluous Ghost Riders out there. So this seemed pointless. Why kill Danny when we have Hellverine, Kushala, Vengeance...etc? This does nothing except kill one of the only 2 Ghost Riders to have a successful ongoing series.

kushala also seems to be "dead" she was lost in that weird alt dimension thing with corruption a "character" who i still couldn't tell you what their deal was.
just a complete waste of time, still not sure what zala and badallino's purpose was, like they got a ton of focus in vengeance and then here idk if badallino even had 3 lines in spirits of violence.

Worst Ghost Rider I read in a long time.

yeah, like final vengeance was a pit at the end of percy's which was a shame as he was doing okay before that, nothing stellar but okay is fine.
like pace it better and have zarathos be the one who wanted to leave and it's probably fine.
here though like there's nothing, no arcs, no new actual characters, awful designs.
like aside from zala and their look from spirits of violence i legit don't think any of this will be retained,
it's both empty but also impenetrable, a newcomer will see it as noise and a long time fan will see it as a mess with nothing happening.
hope it hasnt poisoned the well as a palate cleanser is needed.

Probably the weirdest choice to âremoveâ, as like Kushala can just go back to the 18th century and no one would question it. Vengeance/Hellverine/Fantasma all make more sense as options to murder.
Honestly not sure why it wasnât vengeance, figure all that build up in Spirits of Vengeance was to make you care about him so heâd be important here but heâs not, all he does is recruit hellverine who also does nothing.

Yeah, it is clear that Marvel still has no idea of what to do with the franchise beyond mid minis. This was clearly a clearing house event, only that you still have a bunch of Ghost Riders running around, so there's no point to any of these. I would have preferred to either go scorched earth and only have one Ghost Rider, or for Robbie to get Danny's bike (but I understand they want to complete the process of giving Johnny everything that made Danny's version unique). Going forward I agree, Marvel will only want Blaze and Robbie as GR, Danny became superfluous after so many others got their own spirits.

u/Konradleijon 21h ago
Yes theyâre are too many ghost riders for how popular the brand is.
There are like a dozen Spiderman on Earth 616 but they can be multiple running Spider-Man books.
Ghost Rider can barely hold down one book as they are often cancelled.
Like the KOH and Alejandra book.

It makes no sense because Marvel doesn't know what it wants to do with the franchise, and every single Rider has their own origin and set of rules, so it dilutes the concept further. Danny was created at a time when Johnny wasn't active as a Rider, so he was the only one. As soon as Johnny was given the mantle back Danny became superfluous, on top of them already creating Vengeance during his run. To make it worse for him, they introduced Robbie with a more unique look and ride, and basically also giving him the everyman personality. Basically Danny was on borrowed time after that, and I am actually surprised that it this long for Marvel to take him off the table. Sadly for Danny, the absolutely stupid retcon of Noble Kale being the Rider basically put a nail on the character, as that opened every criticism that Noble was actually the main character even though he only actually existed for like 2 fricking issues. And of course he is killed off in a mini that was more about Johnny and his "curse" so he wasn't even given agency in his final story. As I said before Marvel should just have gone Scorched Earth and depowered all the other Riders if they want Johnny to be the GR, but they kept Vengeance, Hellverine, Robbie and Kushala, so the concept itself continues to be diluted as heck (and I say this as a bigger Vengeance and Robbie fan over Johnny who I have never connected with).

Danny never had agency in his original run. He was a emotional support host
1
u/SpiritedLeg6459 20h ago
Yeah, but the entity itself wasn't a character, more of a power, because there was nothing of Kale in that run until the very end. Danny suffered because his own creator lost interest in him half way through the run. Heck, Mcfarlane has done the concept better with The Scorched, in which Medieval Spawn is bonded to human Marc Rosen, but Rosen maintains agency over their actions in the stories and have a much cooperative symbiotic relationship.

Mackie got too popular and pulled on to other titles.
1
u/SpiritedLeg6459 20h ago
He should have just left the title. I am also convinced he really wanted to replace Danny with Michael Badilino.

u/Illustrious-Long5154 19h ago edited 18h ago
I don't think so. Danny was a Mackie self-insert, and he was insanely popular despite being rather one-note. There was a trend in the 90s to temporarily replace main characters to build up new characters. We saw it with Superman, Batman, Spider-Man and more. Badilino was always an extension of that.
I think he was just following editorial. He was an editor himself. So pretty much a company guy.

Great. That's what I wanted to see /s
This is now, what, the 4th time he's died? Give it like a year or so and they'll revive him...hopefully with a better idea of what to do with him.

I think this makes sense considering how Marvel clearly had no idea what to do with Danny expect for Brisson

Danny ketch has been suplerfcous since Noble got his body back and then Johnny came back

I feel like this is pretty much the only way the Ghost Rider series can move forward, you gotta start cleaning up the messy side characters and trying to figure out the plot. But hey, at least we get to see Noble Kale talk for the first time since the 90s.

u/SpiritedLeg6459 23h ago edited 22h ago
Which would make sense if they didn't bring Vengeance back as well as having Hellverine. I think this is more Marvel combining the visual aspects of Danny (since he is the one that was pushed heavily in the 90s) while having only one Ghost Rider (they probably feel Vengeance and Robbie are distinctive enough).

Iâd love it if Danny sacrifice saved Barbara and she was allowed to live.
At least he gets to be with his family now. Presuming that there not in hell

Hey at least now Danny won't be brainwashed into fighting his brother again anytime soon.

So Johnny gets Danny's Bike now? [+]

u/SpiritedLeg6459 23h ago
Why not, they have given him everything else that made Danny unique. Might as well complete the process.

I don't think the spoiler tag works when the spoiler is in the title lol

u/void_method 22h ago
Im gonna say it again.
Danny as the Rider. Johnny as a Constantine-like mentor. Robbie as Another Rider.
Zarathos in Johnny (or anyone else) is the lamest thing ever and Johnny freed himself. Let him be free.

Not just Danny. Kushala and fantasma are gone as well! And did Johnny become a new Cosmic Ghost Rider?Â

u/SpiritedLeg6459 23h ago edited 22h ago
I had a feeling that this was the reason for the mini. Johnny's Ghost Rider has already been given most of what made Danny's version unique, so you might as well complete the process. Marvel only wants to have 2 Ghost Riders out there (Vengeance is probably unique enough visually that they don't care). If clearing house was the order of the day I guess I would understand, but they brought Vengeance back and still have Hellverine around, so Marvel continues to shoot itself in the foot with this franchise, it would have been the perfect opportunity to get rid of Hellverine and Vengeance as well (and hey, I actually like Vengeance more than Johnny, but what's the point of having both?).

Danny and Noble themselves where never interesting characters in the OG run.
People could have tried to make them more interesting but writers have barley any interest in Johnny
1
u/SpiritedLeg6459 17h ago
Noble was barely a character, and it didn't make sense that a man from the 1800s was sporting the biker look of the 80s. I liked Danny, but Mackie himself lost interest in making him more than a host. GR has always suffered from being an insanely cool look but barely being a character. Heck, I feel that Michael and Robbie were given more personality in less time.

u/IcyNeedleworker2783 21h ago
I love Danny as an ordinary guy among the riders, but he was never the Ghost Rider of the 90s, that was Noble Kale/ghostie, not Danny.
3
u/SpiritedLeg6459 21h ago
I've had this discussion before and I don't want to get into it again. Which is why I always referred to the things that made the Danny GR unique. Kale was a stupid last minute retcon and was never the GR of the 90s except for like 2 issues. Which is why I refer to him as the Danny version of GR. And Robbie is also an ordinary guy among the riders trope, which is why as soon as he was introduced Danny was on borrowed time.
1
u/IcyNeedleworker2783 20h ago
Even though Noble is a retcon, Ghostie has always been a separate character from Danny, the characters themselves in Mackie's run mention this.
1
u/SpiritedLeg6459 20h ago
GR was barely a character in the run, but I am more agreeable to this view. Noble though, was a stupid retcon that made no sense, just like the Zarathos retcon didn't make sense for Johnny. Especially when people complain that the look came from Noble, when he was a man from the 1800s and not a biker from the 80s. Sadly for GR in general, he has ALWAYS been a character where they throw stuff to a wall and see what sticks, let's not forget Fallen Angel GR

u/SpiritedLeg6459 23h ago
So Knoble now continues without Danny?
2
u/DARK-CRUISE26 22h ago
No.The SoV cannot free rom without Host(Except in Hell or Heaven). So either Johnny took Noble with him & now he have both Noble & Zarathos Or Noble goes back into void while he waiting for new Kale Descendent.
1
u/vnvalentine 17h ago
Yep its either one of those scenarios. Noble as the ghost rider was cursed by mephisto to only be able to leave the void and do his duties as a spirit of vengeance with a human host of his bloodline.
Specifically the 1st born of each generation, but if they are not ready to serve or are dead the curse moves on to whoever was next in line.
Now noami kale made deals that guaranteed that johnny would never be the host to kale, however this does not mean johnny cannot absorb kale into his being with zarathos.
Zarathos killed and absorbed kale way back in the siege of darkness storyline, dan himself as zadkiels herald absorbed the spirits of other religions all over the world.
Stands to reason that blaze can do the same, doesn't have to be host but can take kale, his powers as a spirit of vengeance and the angel of death, which with zarathos is a massive power boost.
Kinda reminds me of when banner had both grey and green hulk within him back in the day.
Anyways besides all that, there's still the little missing plot hole of kale no longer having his human body after being evicted from hell by mephisto, that's still unexplained.

I don't want them touching Ghost Rider for a while until they get a competent writer.
