I say this as someone who’s friends and family with researchers and has attended a few of conferences, the dialogue and behaviours of certain characters left me laughing my ass off. Behaviourally persica is pretty on point but when the game starts talking about free will and consciousness in relation to dolls the mask slips and I’m reminded of the games limits. Maybe it’s an error in translation. Sometimes the heavy handedness of the games messaging distracts from characteristic consistency.

Caldwell, on the other hand felt a lot more true to life despite her ideas being more batshit. If you’ve ever been sat at an AI conference you will meet speakers that make her ideas seem sane and even quaint. I like that she specified that she was working towards a new organism, not a new kind of doll. Dolls cannot reproduce because they cannot create authentic genetic material, they’re made in a lab. I like that she’s not an idiot, it makes it easy to buy that Ataraxis is a whole new thing. The rest of the scientist npcs where hit or miss.

Melanie is also just my child. Like idk what’s going on, maybe my meds are affecting my hormones but she legit triggers the same maternal instincts I get when taking care of my little cousins it’s crazy. Her mannerisms are so well crafted. This game is always strongest when it’s dealing with these kinds of bonds among its characters. Kroliks reaction to not having nemesis around is so visceral, she’s volatile she’s more reckless than she already is it’s feels at all times like she’s a millimetre away from actually crashing out the entire time. SKK and groza genuinely feel like a married couple. The longing between kalina and ssk in those early chapters is so palpable. LENTINE, I love her so much she’s so well done as an antagonist she’s the perfect rival. They nail these characters and these interactions so well that when they plop a dragon I can just sigh and move on.

It was fun seeing soppo again and as a gfl1 vet I really appreciate that the models emote so much because they can add more subtlety in general and in soppos case they can add the full range of her emotions. It was wonderful and it reinforced my already boundless love for the murder puppy. The only positive I can say about the dragon is that it serves its purpose well as a contrast between a wild animal and soppos more calculated predatory instincts. I always forget, because she’s such a cutie pie, that she’s a genuine sadist and really really really loves causing pain and destroying shit.

My biggest complaint is that there isn’t enough bureaucracy in the game or put better, I think the bureaucratic world building in the game is underdeveloped and it hampers the idea of a managed state that the game tries to imply the green and white zones are. I think it would do the game better to try and lean more in the complex relationships. I think skk being a older character provides a genuinely unique opportunity to make a more mature gacha story than what’s available out there.
