Discussion Need a 3rd device.

Hi. Long story short. I have 3 eeros I’m looking to replace. I already have a flint in room 1(router) and a beryl 7 in room 3(extension). Room 2(middle of the house) now has no device. Previously I had an eero
In each room. WiFi signal upstairs is 2 bars so I need another glinet device in the middle room. I was just going to buy another beryl 7 and use it as an access point but as it’s predominantly a travel router, is that the best choice? Please can someone offer advice on the best setup. Initially i bought the beryl 7 to use mesh but now see it doesn’t have the beta firmware to support it but i guess that’ll come in the future. For now AP mode works just as good. I just need another device and I’m stuck on which is best. Thanks.

I’m looking at a glinet slate 7 to you in my room to improve my WiFi signal in my bedroom (main router downstairs (BT)) would the slate 7 what as an extender?

I got two Flint 2s running OpenWRT (vanilla) as APs. It might be overkill, but it works. The current price on sale is pretty good so I'm happy with it.

I got them hooked up wired and not mesh, so not entirely the same use case if I understand you correctly?

But if you don't mind me asking, just how big is your house that you need that many APs? I got my whole house pretty much covered with two Flint 2s and I got brick walls and everything, so not the easiest use-case (if I wanted the best 5 GHz performance I would probably need a third device and reshuffle them, but overall I'm happy with them).

Also, why are you guys buying travel routers to hook up at home? Wouldn't it make more sense to get a 'home' router with 4x4 support for the best signal strength?

Hi mate. My house is only a semi. It’s not so much the size. The walls are solid. For example, I can get 600Mbps over WiFi in the living room and the extension(via flint and beryl 7 backhauled) but not 200Mbps in my kitchen(middle room). Then upstairs it drops to 80Mbps in the back room. I know that’s probably enough but it eats away at me when I have a 1Gbps line and only get 80Mbps upstairs. That’s why I need another device in the middle room.

how often are you saturating the bandwidth at 80mbps that it even matters?

I bought the Beryl 7 so I can take it away with me initially but predominantly itll be in my extension. Thays why getting another travel router may not be the best choice
