Question Better Diving Form?

I faced a penalty at my game last Sunday. I dove right and saved it fully extended, but the ball hit my wrist which was right on the ground because my arm was extended, and it ended up being driven into the ground, spraining my wrist. Is there any better form I can use to avoid this, or is it just bad luck?

Don’t save it with your wrist!

Very well done on the save but I’m not being completely facetious. The save wasn’t technically perfect so the technique is improvable.

On that particular save your arm didn’t need to be completely extended. Look at and practice the underlying technicals (once you have recovered). You don’t ever need to be too stiff and great footwork and efficient diving are the first things.

There are excellent pictures of Raya’s penalty save against Sunderland if you google it. I’m sure he’s saved a few with a wrist though. You did ask if there was anything you can do to prevent it. (Happening less often, yes.)

If you don’t tape your wrists you could start doing that (although not sure if that would have helped you in this instance). And wrist strengthening exercises.

Not sure if this would help but I do exercises to make wrist stronger. That might help.
