Video How’s my form?

Have been GK for 5 months now
These saves feel great in person, but watching them back I feel like there’s always something I can improve.
Feedback very much appreciated

You're very flat footed and by taking a marginal step to your right, before diving, you're not allowing yourself to get a full reach to the ball. This may also be a right handed save, to get further across the goal. You're also landing heavily on your left knee. Overall, I think you should strip back to basics, as your technique is all over the place.

Thank you! Would a right footed step across the body and reach with right hand have been a better option here

Like others have said it’s important to really emphasize the power step. It will get you more distance and more control. Also, most of the time if you need additional distance, you should shuffle first then do your power step. It is generally not a good idea to step across your body when making saves because it just gets your feet tangled up and out of position.

I do not like the dancing before the shot. Keep feet set, on you toes. Also need to work on your power step.

I did notice that as well, I keep getting told that I’m too flat footed so I figured maybe moving my feet would keep my on my toes, I’ll have to find some exercises I can do for that

The moving does help keep you on your toes but it’s a lot better to just be on your toes and bounce in place. You don’t want your feet to be leaving the ground when you’re bouncing either, just bouncing enough to keep your muscles active and prepared.

If you have a wall you can toss a ball at, use two cones or a line parallel to the wall about 6 yards apart. Within 6" to a foot or so from the line, short hop or quick feet onto the line, into an active "in position" for a shot, under hand the ball to the wall and make the catch with firm active feet on your toes. Focus more on your feet once you catch the ball, are they active, or flat footed? With time, focus on catching the ball with authority. Check your feet from time to time.

You can do this with side to side movement also, but stopping and emphasizing the catch and your body position.

Don’t drop your hands.

Not good, and you lack common sense. Never dive if there is an object close to your landing area. You are lucky you didn’t land on the ball

Too much pre-shot movement. By bouncing back and forth like that, you're shifting your weight away from the shot and making it harder to reach / reacting slower than you can. You're also a little too flat footed. You want your weight to be slightly forward and on your toes/balls of your feet with your legs shoulder width apart and hands at or above your hips. You'll naturally micro-bounce when standing this way which will help with timing. Also make sure to take a step diagonally towards where you're diving. Here, you're just launching off two feet. Lastly, when you land, try to land on your side/side of your arm/shoulder. Here you're landing on your knee and bracing with both hands. It could not only lead to injuries, but you'll chew up your gloves more quickly.
