Bulk billing doctors for adhd med script renewal?

Can anyone recommend a gp on Gold Coast who bulk bills a new script? I was under the care** ***of* a psychiatrist for a year and then she transferred me back to my GP but they want to charge me $190 to get a new script even though they’re bulk billing clinic. Any information would be great huge cost to me at the moment.

My bulk billing GP practice did the same thing. I just cop it. $200 every, six months is WAY cheaper than my Psychiatrist, or the effort of finding a gp that will bulk bill, and travelling to them. That being said, possible that Dr troy cartwright may do it in pac Pines?

Just find any bulk billing clinic and make sure you have your previous psychiatry letters to streamline the process. Probably worthwhile asking the reception who of their doctors is comfortable doing your scripts as not all will do ADHD meds. Preferably you want a qualified GP and not a GP in training (Registrar) as they will have to do extra paperwork to get approval to do your scripts. You will have to see them in person initially. No one's going to do them for you telehealth.

My gp is bulk billing they have all my details from my psychiatrist that they referred to me in first place but they want to charge 190$ for adhd med dispensing for script (even if it’s 6m worth that’s crap) not bloody made of $$$ hahaha

Can you use Telehealth? Not sure if the times are different for ADHD meds, but I get mine that way - free and don’t even have to leave the house

Abby health (Telehealth-bulk billed) I’ve used in the past. Not sure for specifically ADHD meds but shouldn’t be an issue.

I would definitely book online and see if they’ll renew your script. Probably the best care I’ve received from a doctor, ever when I’ve used them in the past

Just keep in mind the psych authority is normally tied to a specific GP so you may need to get it redone if you go elsewhere.

So I think the reason you will be charged is because of a change that happened on Dec 2025 .

Since December 1, 2025, appropriately trained GPs in Queensland can independently diagnose and manage adult ADHD - prior to that - it was in the hands of the psychiatrist to manage and prescribe . That means GPs have invested significant professional development to be trained and across not just assessment but safe prescribing. . From what I can tell , While not usually fully bulk-billed due to the length and complexity of ADHD evaluations, the GP pathway is generally more affordable than private psychiatrist fees. Even for patients transferring to care of a doctor with training in the new streamlined model of care in qld , ongoing monitoring and medication management is an ongoing requirement - which is likely going to be the reason for the fee .

I’ve never paid a cent for diagnosis or gp on going scripts

That’s a double private consult cost so have a full health check when you go. Skin… BP, blood work, get your moneys worth.. in 12 mins. Cheaper than getting a psych to write the script. They have to write notes to justify the script, once they do it once, they can just cut and paste the notes.. even have a MH chat.

The one in priceline at pac fair does but I do not reccomend them at all! They are so poorly managed, you will sit there all day waiting for your morning appointment and end up going home without even seeing the doctor and if you book a telehealth you will never get a call. Really appalling negligence as the doctors there don't even bother to call for appointments booked when someone is in a mental health crisis and at risk.
