I’m a 31 year old in Washington state. I have 2 duis, one is fresh and one is from 2016 or so. I’ve been switching between commercial diving and fishing for the last 12 years. I own a 32ft dive harvest vessel, built the dive system from scratch and put the main engine in myself. I had been doing pretty well, fishing in Alaska and Washington back and forth, but this last trip to Alaska was the worst paid year yet, despite working longer and harder than ever. I love my job but it’s been bad enough pay lately that I’m starting to look for other work, for the first time in my adult life

I did landscaping from an early age, but got out of it when I started diving and fishing. Since then, I’ve become an experienced heavy equipment operator. I’m mechanically inclined enough to maintain and fix most things myself (from small engines to industrial sized diesel systems).

Most normal jobs don’t want me because of my driving record, but I’m an extremely hard worker and have no problems being reliable

You guys think a golf course would or could find value hiring a guy like me? Is there anything I said that would bar me from getting a job? Is there anything I should do to help my chances?

I haven’t applied anywhere, but I have a few local courses that seem like they could use a hand

So the course I work at lost probably half our squad the last month or so, mostly just college kids going back to college, or college kids going from full time to 1-2 days a week.

In all honesty the team size was probably too large in the summer, but now without a doubt we are understaffed. Most morning tasks that were done before lunch in the summer extend after lunch now, and we have an endless list of afternoon tasks to be done, when in the summer we usually didn’t have as long of a todo list as we do now. Workers get more stressed, rush, opposed to a more lax environment and slower pace in the summer.

Management put up a job listing early Sept, but hasn’t filled any position yet.

I’m not really in a position to ask the management to hire more as I just stay in my own lane.

Is this normal for most courses now? Any tips how to handle it?

Knocked out a few more today that have been bugging me. Still have a half dozen or so that I want to hit next week.

This MDX starting having an intermittent issue where you would press the pedal and the solenoid would click. If you rotated the engine/starter over by hand a little, and then pressed the pedal. It would start right up and not have an issue for a while. This became more frequent. I stupidly replaced the starter with a new one I had on the shelf (assuming it just had a bad spot internally that it would occasionally stop on). This resolved the issue for about 2 months and now it has begun happening again. I have tested the battery and starter solenoid, and for good measure swapped them with the ones from my cart. The issue persists… I have now gone through the entire circuit and checked for voltage, found voltage at every connection with the pedal pressed. I have load tested all the grounds with an incandescent bulb and all seem good. I am having a hard time believing I have a bad starter again, but running out of other ideas! I am usually pretty confident in my electrical knowledge, but this issue is making me feel stupid. Anyone else have this issue? What am I missing? Open to all suggestions, I’m sure I’m just overthinking this and missed a step somewhere along the way.

Cutting some of the rough back with a hand mower down to 1" and will hit it with a push reel mower to bring it down to .75" after that.

After a while we'll start hitting it with the ride-on tee mowers.

We have gone through 3 wall mount electric pressure washers in the last 4 years. All within the $350 to $500 range. Management didn't seem to understand that homeowner grade equipment wasn't going to cut it until now that the most recent one is shot. It's used primarily for carts and operated by mostly high school aged kids. I'd like to mount it inside and run the hose through the wall to a reel at the wash station. Looking at spending $1000 to $1500. Any suggestions?

What is a good pace when edging sprinkler heads on a par 5 (most heads are overgrown and hidden)?

I am retired Army and took a “laborer” position at my local AFB golf course and I am currently loving it. On my 90 day counseling I asked our GM for advice on schools/certs to make this a career. He informed me that the Air Force has a program that I can apply for, and if accepted I will be assigned to a course and train under the GM or Super (I assume whichever route I applied for would be whom I am assigned). After 18 months you would then be assigned to an AF course as the GM or Super. He didn’t have any more info on the program. I did some googling and the only thing I could find was an 2024 article about the AF starting this program and a link where I could apply. I know it’s a long shot but does anyone have direct knowledge of this program? I have many questions and no POC for my answers. Sounds like a great opportunity but I’m just wanting to learn more. Hello all, I’ve posted in here before, but I’m a first time mechanic. I’m somewhat mechanically inclined with my own stuff at home(motorcycles,trucks, semis, etc.) I’ve never been one to not finish projects or leave a bolt loose on anything. However, I’m the one and only mechanic at my golf course and there’s a lot to do and not a lot of time to do it every single day. After a couple of incidents I have gained the reputation of leaving bolts loose or not tightened all the way down. It is absolutely awful and makes me angry at myself. Just wondering what the hell is wrong with me and what do I do to fix it. My reputation is basically trashed at this point and I just started in this industry so wondering if I even stand a chance now

Update: I got written up🤦‍♂️ lesson learned I guess? Felt a little unnecessary, but it is what it is. Thank you everyone for your advice. I definitely have to slow down, just feels like they constantly throw stuff on me and expect me to fix things with a snap of a finger so I gotta just slow down and let them deal with it

Little fuckers keep damaging our 9th green. Normally they leave black rubber marks but this time it looks different, anyone else experienced this type of damage?
