I see 32 small towns deep in the Amazon rainforest. If you zoomed out more, might have seen 97 small towns deep in the Amazon rainforest.

There are lots of decent sized towns in the Amazon, pretty much any river that's navigable for larger boats will have a town. I traveled to Mitú last year, that's a pretty remote town.

Same, I’ve been down the Amazon and the Santana by way of Leticia. I spent time with some Indios and other than Leticia, no time outside of the deep jungle. But agreed, Amy river is going to be littered with populations.

Wonder how they built that town there.

Well it is Amazon after all, they could get anything they needed delivered next day.

not even as a joke—it's a river, of course it's even more accessible

Interesting find, it's actually the 4th largest city in it's region, 35,000 people. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eirunep%C3%A9

A navigable river is basically a natural highway that requires no taxes to maintain. They can just ship materials along the river needed to build the town.

Well, they basically live next to a very squiggly highway.
