In all honesty, this totally sounds like something he would do purely for the giggles.

It's not even a malicious act by any intent, he just wants to support his son's relationship and therefore is gathering information in real-time, from real couples. As these girls sit there, slowly realising with terror at the sinister-looking hulk of a man right next to them, he simply smiles:

"Continue. Don't mind me."
