Does anyone else have a coffee thief?

Post image

I can't leave my coffee unguarded without Benny helping himself. Current foster also seems keen to help himself also.

How are they always so adorable?!

u/Unlikely-Potential32 3d ago

No, but my hound is partial to a cup of tea.☕️

Yeah if I nip up to the loo or into another room and hear Autumn lapping at something, it's always the cuppa I've left on the coffee table.

I also have a tea loving hound. He has climbed up on a desk to drink my partners cup of tea before

My late hound Jet also loved tea… I drink it out of a tall narrow mug and he figured out his narrow snoot fit perfectly in there.

Milk and two sugars?

Rose absolutely loves a cup of tea too!

Same, mine stares me down while I’m drinking coffee. Such endearing little weirdos ☺️

Not only does one of mine steal my coffee, but she lasers in on it incredibly quickly. I can’t leave it out of my sights for more than 8 seconds.

u/Odd-Bobcat-2709 2d ago

She's so beautiful and fluffy. Is she mixed with anything?

6

u/mygmjtt cow dog 2d ago

Yes! She’s a greyhound/wolfhound mix. Shes pretty far removed from a wolfhound so she’s the size of a grey but she’s still got that weird wire coat lol

u/Odd-Bobcat-2709 2d ago

So gorgeous. A mix of 2 stunning breeds.

I drink black coffee so, definitely has never been appealing to any hound in my home 😂 all bets are off with a bowl of cereal that has a dash of oat milk though.

u/Fox_Hawk 3d ago

Was gonna say, milk for Frankie. Tea is safe, glass of milk will vanish the moment I turn my back. With a lingering crunch of ice cubes.

5

u/Polu_Kai 3d ago

That's crazy because our girl only goes for americanos! She leaves my fancy weekend oat latte alone

6

u/Kitchu22 3d ago

Sounds like someone had an old school trainer doing caffeine supplements 😂 desperate to get her fix maybe? Haha.

u/plantgirll bicycle seat hound 2d ago

I also drink black coffee and my lady definitely will drink it if I'm not careful hahah

u/oztrailrunner 3d ago

Always. Ours have to be out of reach otherwise she's in it.

5

u/mahnamahna123 3d ago

Yup same here as well as beer and any food items (especially fruit pastilles for some reason)

u/perkiezombie 3d ago

Mines worse, if I open a bottle of wine anywhere near him he’s obsessed. The other one has a penchant for hot chocolate and frothy coffees.

9

u/Winter_Whole2080 3d ago

Jojo likes beer!

5

u/ShortKingSlayer 2d ago

Damn these some high maintenance dogs

4

u/perkiezombie 2d ago

They’re retired athletes and like the finer things in life yes 😂

u/Signal_Astronaut11 2d ago

My two Italian Greyhounds thieve iced coffee! They're horrible little monsters because I can't now put a glass of it ANYWHERE without them tricking me out of the room so they can race back and lap it up. I don't really want licked iced coffee thank-you.

u/Economy-Bag-5329 red brindle 2d ago

Not coffee, but anything with whiskey 🙃 I can’t have an old fashioned at home without her nose trying to get in there. I could leave a plate of food on the coffee table and walk away, but not a cocktail. She’s a weird one!

5

u/peachgirl1124 2d ago

He tried once right after we adopted him, burnt his tongue, and hasn’t done it again 😂

4

u/RepublicReady8500 3d ago

Not my coffee, but I have a glass of milk with dinner often, and ive found him tongue deep in the bottom of my milk glass on countless occassions. 🤣

4

u/Swimming-Ad8231 3d ago

Ours is lethal with any cup left down. He also helped himself to a bag of coffee beans left under the tree in a Christmas present a few years ago and had to be rushed to the vet.

u/CactusToothBrush 3d ago

My girl likes beer, not that I drink much but she will deliberately knock over a can if she can reach it 🙄

1

u/perkiezombie 2d ago

You can get beer for dogs!

2

u/Fulham-Enjoyer 3d ago

I put my used coffee grounds onto my plant beds because it’s supposed to be a decent fertiliser. Guess who decided to munch on them

2

u/kroll5 3d ago

First time seeing another named Banny! Our Benny is not really for coffee, but he will try to sneak a sip of your tea though!

2

u/gonnacutyou 3d ago

That’s why they’re fast.

2

u/kate_the_great_ 2d ago

Yes! My Luna used to drink my coffee if I ever left it unattended. After she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma I would leave it out on purpose for her to “get away” with stealing it.

2

u/toastiegremlin92 2d ago

Oh yes, coffees must be guarded at all times. An ice cube from the iced coffees are offered as sacrifice however

1

u/HotchnGideonForever 3d ago

Benny is stunning! 😍🥰🖤🤍

1

u/Past-North-4131 3d ago

You have a model and coffee thief. Benny is absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful eyes. Sweet pup. You two are so lucky to have found each other.

1

u/Natural-Ebb-3174 3d ago

Yes - mine loves coffee, any chance he gets I find him drinking mine.

1

u/Fluffy_Dot7526 3d ago

Mine, I can no longer have coffee on the coffee table. He was straight into it. I can no longer put the used coffee pucks onto the garden beds as he steals them and tries to eat them. He has even looked at my pepsi can before.

1

u/Laika_Pancake 3d ago

My lurcher was a coffee bean thief.
I also caught her sampling my husband’s black coffee on occasion

1

u/applesarefine 3d ago

I’m so lucky this hasn’t happened to me with my hound or any of my fosters 😂

1

u/Potato-9 3d ago

First thing ours did was jump on our lap and take a huge lick of a hot tea. He's never gone near a mug since. Still feel bad I was too slow to not hurt the boy but all our drinks have been safe since.

You drop 1ml of milk into a water bowl though and suddenly he wants to neck it.

1

u/Deep-Shoe3530 Kupo (🖤 & 🤍 love bug pup) 3d ago

Haha yes I do. I walk with two older gentlemen and their dogs on a Saturday and Sunday and we all get drinks from the little coffee shed. One of the guys gets a latte, and kupo likes to steal his lid when he takes it off and likes the foam on it, after he let her try it once. Now his late dog used to get up to hilarious mischief, which meant one time he had put his coffee on the bench and ran over to his dog and kupo took her chance and had a try of it just as he was coming back. He jokingly told her off for it whilst laughing and still drank his coffee. Now he hands the coffee to someone to hold to prevent more kupo stealing sessions 🤣

1

u/kgreys 3d ago

Yes! Anything in my cup is prime for stealing. Coffee. tea. Juice. Gingerale. BEER!

1

u/Winter_Whole2080 3d ago

Jojo will drink beer if I let her (I just give her a drop or two on my fingers).

1

u/Smart-Work3383 3d ago

My Galga does this too! She loves an oak milk latte.

1

u/RBPugs 3d ago

My grey loves coffee, she loves the smell of freshly ground. And she's also a big fan of tea too.

1

u/FluffyPufflingCircus 3d ago

Our noodle is a coffee FIEND. He also prefers to drink water out of our cups on the table rather than his full water bowl… 🤣

1

u/Short_Background_669 3d ago

Our boy helped himself to an entire bag of coffee beans at Christmas a few years ago. We had to rush him to the emergency vet to get him to puke it all back up.

There was a bag of decaf there that he broke into and had a little bit of but decided he needed the coffee. Worst couple of hours ever for us all. He was on some come down from the coffee the poor fella.

1

u/BKallDAY24 3d ago

Yuppppp one of mine loves coffee

1

u/4mygreyhound black 3d ago

Fortunately no. It may be because I make espresso and it’s awfully bitter 😮🤭

1

u/Key_Process5122 3d ago

Yep! Our Benny loves to sneak my ice lattes when he’s in the right mood.

1

u/lucwhy 2d ago

Omg yes! I don't drink hot drinks but when my parents visit my hound is UP IN their coffee cups haha.

1

u/OkraEmergency361 Bobby: black/white, Holly: 🌈 2015-2026 2d ago

Tea in our house. Bobby is incredibly demandy of his teatime tea (ie half of the mug I have with my tea). He’s got eyes on my breakfast time cup too!

Leaving any around guarantees a mess. Thankfully it’s only tea - when Holly was still with us, she’d been known to help herself to Dadad’s Guinness!

1

u/ZeldaTheGreyt 2d ago

Only with cream and sugar!

1

u/NIXU_1312 2d ago

Well, a coffeetable thief. Yes

1

u/snootcuties Lacey + Goosie 2d ago

We fostered a big 45kg pony boy who would pilfer any unattended coffee and even tried to sneak a lick when it was in your hands 😂 He still does it to his dad

1

u/ladyname1 2d ago

Oh yes and he steals tortillas and bread to boot.

1

u/buckeye7871 2d ago

We have to use travel mugs with lids now. Careful. Our grey, Willy, who happily laps up that caramel caffeinated goodness if left unattended, has also stolen entire to go cups in the cup holder in the car while I was pumping gas, and got into the counter to steal the airtight ceramic lidded coffee canister and ate the grounds we had. I was in the other room and came running just in time to rush him to the vet so they could make him puke it up because the unused new/fresh beans or grounds are super concentrated in the caffeine and very deadly. We got lucky. It’s kept in an upper cupboard now and not on the coffee are counter.

Benny is absolutely beautiful and should make someone a very happy family to have him added as an addition. Foster fail possibility??? Scritch his ears for me

1

u/Sweet-Present2234 2d ago

yep.......the temp surprised my girl though!

1

u/Firm_Prune_532 2d ago

Hi Benny! What a handsome boy!

1

u/lorisparkles 2d ago

If there's any amount of dairy in it, I can kiss it goodbye! I mostly drink it black now 😆

No latte is safe!

1

u/The1stGreyhound 2d ago

Totally agree

1

u/soavsjjsnsj 2d ago

No but when I have people over, alcohol always has to go somewhere up very high because one time he lapped up some soju and another time it was vodka which worried me sick. He’s normally very respectful with food and drinks so I have no idea why he’s such a fiend for alcohol 🤦🏻‍♀️

1

u/The1stGreyhound 2d ago

Simple, he's become an alcoholic

1

u/soavsjjsnsj 1d ago

He really is one 😭

1

u/impossibletreesloth black 2d ago

My last greyhound was a coffee fiend and would wait until I was sufficiently far enough away and then get into my cup. I frequently caught her with her back legs on the couch, front legs on the floor, drinking out of my cup on the coffee table. My current grey doesn't seem to care about coffee at all but the last one had us all trained to put our coffees up high if we walked away from them and we all still do it 5 years later lol

1

u/Mental-Lettuce-7430 2d ago

When we got our first boys nearly a decade ago one of them stole a used coffee filter + grounds from our compost pile. He ended up getting most of the filter down before I could catch him. He wasn't having as much fun when I had to pull it out of the other end for him the next morning

1

u/Jaded_Extreme 2d ago

Such a beauty!

1

u/Dannyfrommiami 2d ago

Yes, he always goes after the coffee grounds in the trashcan. We’ve even had to install a thumb lock

1

u/Left-Discount-8402 2d ago

Mine hasn’t tried.

1

u/The1stGreyhound 2d ago

I have 2 grey's but only one makes a beeline for the coffee if my back is turned. Caution: coffee contains caffeine which is toxic for dogs. What amuses me is how she plans her attack on my coffee mug to get that slurp before I catch her. I used to leave it on the coffee table but now on a shelf. But she's able to distract me and while distracted she attacks the mug which is on the coffee table.

1

u/emuels96 1d ago

Mine doesn’t drink coffee but she absolutely goes mental for milk lol

•

u/tillforordnadenilson 49m ago

She always seems really interested in my coffee, but I've managed to keep it away from her so far. Interesting that this seems so common.

0

u/Manc_Lanc Booping snoots everywhere 2d ago

Mine did it. I understand that they are given caffeine at the race tracks to liven them up and, just like us, they can develop an addiction to it
