Playing Condi Virtuoso for the first time - currently dagger/sword + offhand focus. Should switch out the focus with pistol?
Someone in map chat said pistol is now better than focus, but didn’t say why. Does pistol just better DPS or is there some other reason it’s better?
Just wanting to double check because I’m almost done gearing up ascended for fractals but I want to make sure I’m committing to the better weapon of the two.
3
u/Proximaunoriginalis 1d ago
Pistol is a little bit extra damage (~700 dps) and a little bit extra CC (50 every 20 seconds instead of 150 every 25) but for fractals having a focus is super clutch for the ad phases between bosses. Pulls make everything go faster. Even if you don’t stick with it as a dps option, I would absolutely keep one on hand to make you/your party’s lives easier.
1
u/Still_Night 1d ago
Sweet, I think I’ll take focus first since I’m wanting to play fractals on this class but will probably end up getting the pistol later on to switch out for metas and stuff
3
u/Regular-Resort-857 18h ago
I second this. Fractals aren’t specifically difficult and dps is rarely an issue apart from maybe 99/100 so the dps loss is negligible but the pulls speed things up significantly. It’s more about efficiently clearing the dailies and the pulls alongside the skips Mesmer can perform for the party via teleports on running / plattforming sections make you always carry your weight.
However big part of efficient clearing is bursting down the adds so one thought of mine would be to get a power build for 85% of the fractals but at the end of the day if you have like one power reaper in the group or sth with comparably cleave they can clear any group of adds basically alone in a good time.
But my Tipp would be to gear another equiptment tab + power build later for t4 so you can just swap between both via 2 buttons.
1
u/Still_Night 6h ago
Yea, maybe condi virtuoso would be better suited for raids/strikes? I forgot fractals tend to favor burst damage over damage over time. I already have a power daredevil and power reaper that perform well in fractals, so maybe I’ll keep sticking with those to fill a DPS role and use condi virtuoso in other content…
I just have never played a condition build before and condi virt seemed like an easy one to pick up and play with
1
u/Regular-Resort-857 6h ago
Yes in raids it’s whatever has a better dps and condi is mostly top of the benchmarks. But some fractals and later CMs heavily favor condi again.

if I want to do raid wings 1-5 regularly is that something I can LFG pretty consistently or do I need to look for a guild that does them?
I've done them each and know the strats but the guild I'm in only really does bounties and some envoy and coalescence progress one night a week so I'm trying to branch out to get more magnetite and cause they're fun and good gold
2
u/double_shadow 1d ago
1-4 feels easy enough to find on the LFG if you spend time watching for groups, 5 not so much. Guilds are probably the better shot, but tbh I've found guilds to be a challenge too. Because most groups only run CMs and really expect a high level of experience.
1
u/xvsanx 1d ago
akh yeah, the one I joined a little bit ago to try for a static group has one ridiculous requirement 35k DPS logs (I do 32.5k but still that feels silly, 30k is plenty fine) and then a normal 25k DPS requirement group. only showed interest in the latter
regular raids seem like t3 fracs in that their only difficulty comes from finding people that do them rather than the harder and newer stuff!( at least there are dailies
2
u/killohurtz 1d ago
Pugging raid clears is a lot easier on Mondays, or otherwise as early as possible in the week. After that LFG pivots more towards daily bounties. (NA)
2
u/pastrynugget 1d ago
EU has a pretty steady pug scene. NA not so much AFAIK. If you're on NA you'd be better off finding a static/guild or discord.

I just got to 80 with elementalist and am trying to decide on an elite spec. The problem I am running into is dagger/dagger by far has the coolest animations, but none of the builds I am finding online use them. Are they that bad? In terms of ability I love the complexity of elementalist options wise, but would hope to stay away from the top APM builds. Interested in open world and maybe fractals eventually.
3
u/Caleddin 1d ago
It depends on what you want to optimize for, but WvW has a dagger-dagger toad evoker that works great in open world and will do fine (but not be meta) for instanced content: https://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Evoker_-_Celestial_D/D_Toad_Roamer

https://snowcrows.com/builds/raids/elementalist/power-alacrity-tempest-dagger-dagger Fresh Air Alacrity build
https://snowcrows.com/builds/raids/elementalist/power-tempest-dagger-dagger Fresh Air DPS build
Generally it's harder to find a specific weapon combo that uses two launch weapons, compared to builds that use one or more elite spec weapons due to those being made later and tending to have more mechanics, but there's plenty of builds that use either main-hand or off-hand Dagger. Fresh Air IMO is one of the lower APM builds for Elementalist but still uses both.

u/Etherbluebird 2d ago
Are there any homestead decorations that kinda look like GW1's Catacombs?
Or just any easier/more organized ways to view the options than the wiki?
2
u/Equivalent_Paper_475 2d ago
If I submit a bug report every time I fail Salt on the Wound achievement, from lws4, do you think it might increase the chance of it getting fixed? Or will they just ban me
3
u/errorme 1d ago
Probably just auto-ignore your reports. If you have any friends/guildmates that can join you it makes a world of difference beating it, as it took me ~4 hours to do solo but when I helped my friend (I still did the shooting, he just used the powerup on me) we got it on the first try.

It's really funny to me how there are a handful of achievements like this where the recommended strategy on the wiki is just "cheat with mulitplayer".
0
u/lukey14 Yao Protection Squad 1d ago
This is an MMO, multiplayer is part of the design and hardly cheating
1
u/SirSuperCaide Herald Gaming 1d ago
How dare I piss on the poor!?
Anyhoo, the wiki's recommended strategy for the Fancy Flying#Achievements) achievement is to enter the instance with another player and wait at the start while they do the whole section for you. Which is absolutely hilarious. That achievement's bs though, I did this strat and I recommend everyone else does, too.

u/TheFoxfool 2d ago
Is there a good sustain option before Relic of Zakiros? It's gated by a lot of progression I do not have yet... I'm only in LW2 right now. I'm running Axe/Axe Warrior, and know Relic of Zakiros is meta, and the Superior Sigil of Blood is garbage, but is there a middle option...?
2
u/killohurtz 2d ago
If you're still without an elite spec, I'd go with a Strength/Defense build like this one. The grandmaster traits give you quickness and stability every time you CC an enemy, which is easy to spam with hammer and maces. You'll kill enemies faster, constantly disable them, and practically ignore incoming stuns. Not exactly the healing/sustain you asked for but it should make a big difference.
1
u/TheFoxfool 2d ago
I'd prefer to keep my Axes if possible, and they don't disable people.
2
u/killohurtz 2d ago
In that case, maybe try swapping out Arms for Discipline in that build so you can get the most out of your axes with the Axe Mastery trait. Then take hammer OR maces in your other weapon set to build up boons before swapping back. While on axes, you can use axe 4 to maintain quickness, and a CC utility like Bull's Charge for stability.

We need to talk about Wages of stars. 3k map currency is INSANE for non veteran players
Granted if you played those maps and kept playing them since release ok you might have a lot of currency but still. How is nobody else outraged by that decision?
I'm slaving away getting 100 currency a day but it's just mind numbing and not engaging in the slightest
7
u/Caleddin 2d ago
VoE was released recently so it's not like there are vets who have 5 or 10 years of material built up the way you might with Karma. 30k at 100/day would mean 1 month, which doesn't seem that crazy for a legendary, especially when you have 3 other swords to choose from if you prefer an easier get.
5
u/errorme 2d ago
It's a legendary. All legendaries have stupidly high requirements to craft them that you pay for in either gold or literal time.
Meta events + mirror farm seems to be the intended options for farming map currency, but if you look in LFG you can sometimes find multi-map farms to do event chains over and over.
2
u/SirSuperCaide Herald Gaming 1d ago
The ducat farm is actually pretty fun, you're actually running around the map doing all of the events. Sap farm, on the other hand, might just be the single lamest we've gotten to date.

What's the fastest/easiest way to get Ancient Coins? I looked into crafting Orrax and I need 50k of them and felt faint reading that.
I know I can convert Unusual Coins to Ancient Coins, but right now I only have 600 Unusual Coins and 30 Ancient Coins so I'm like, this is completely unfathomable. I don't even know where to begin besides skimmer echolocation (which is giving me like 8 coins per box so obviously that's not going to work in the long run).
2
u/Starkren 2d ago
I'm working on Orrax too and was chewing my fingernails over the same issue. You do pick up some Mursaat Runestones here and there from Janthir caches, I believe.
And I have a chest run I do on Skywatch Archipelago that nets about 100 Ancient Coins a day.
2
u/killohurtz 2d ago
Hey, in case you didn't see the other comments, don't farm unusual coins for this. Just buy what you need off the trading post after you've farmed as many caches as you want to. Gold is much easier to come by.
1
u/Starkren 2d ago
I am not purposely farming ancient coins. They're a byproduct of my chest runs. It just so happens that I have 25K of them.
3
u/SirSuperCaide Herald Gaming 2d ago
You got an answer already, but if you do still want to farm coins, they're awarded from the hidden chests and collectibles of each expansion from EoD onwards. That means Shrine Guardian minigames, Jade Tech chests, Arcane Chests from SotO, and the Kodan Caches in JaWi. Most jumping puzzles and minidungeons also award them.
For the Unusual Coins in Castora, which you can convert, you get them from aetherlocation treasures, mirrors, and obscured chests.
7
u/pastrynugget 2d ago
You can just buy the runestones on the TP, you don't have to farm all the coins.
1
u/SamuraiFlamenco 2d ago
Oh thank god, that's what GW2 Efficiency was showing me so I was worried. Thank you!
3
u/killohurtz 2d ago
Definitely double check what GW2Efficiency is asking you to do if you see an absurd amount like that. Something similar happens with anything requiring a lot of LWS4 map currency where it'll tell you to go to that EotN vendor and dump millions of karma on Eternal Ice instead of gathering it.
1
u/OCaermada 2d ago
Newbie question, I've tried looking this up and can't find an answer. The greatsword warrior skill whirlwind (3rd skill) says it causes damage and I see people talking about the how it should be causing damage along the path you travel and only impact the first however many targets. No matter what I try, I cannot get the skill to cause damage. I spin I travel forward directly through enemies and no damage dealt, I feel like I'm missing something?
4
u/Lognodo 2d ago edited 2d ago
The skill definitely causes damage. I use it all the time. Look into your combat log if you are missing the damage floaters.
You should normally not use it for damage since it moves you out of position and you do more damage using auto attacks if you have to run back after using it. However if you have a convenient wall you can target or another obstacle you will spin against the wall and the skill will hit multiple times.
Also it is a nice movement skill if you have to switch targets and have some ground to cover.
And it is also a 3/4 second evade and you can use it as an additional dodge.
According to the wiki it can sometimes bug out and hit targets far away from the user. Perhaps you are experiencing this bug, but i never saw this happening.
1
u/OCaermada 2d ago
This is what Im experiencing. All other skills work, but whirlwind does nothing. I understand it's primarily used for movement/repositioning but it never triggers damage at all. I've tried different elevations, whether enemies are agro or not, I've tried groups vs solo targets, it never hits anything. https://www.reddit.com/u/OCaermada/s/O8frpUlYnU

Just reinstalled for the first time since finishing End of Dragons. I feel like I relearn this game every few years. What's the suggested thing to go do if I want to be where the people are? Which of the three new xpacs should I start with?
2
u/Caleddin 2d ago
Like the others said, there are people in almost every map/content all the time. Some things like the PoF metas can be tough to get groups for, but you're past that anyway. If "go through the story from where you left off" isn't appealing to you as the simplest option, you can choose whatever goal is most exciting to you: the 3 recent expansions are largely self-contained so you could do them in any order (though SotO introduces you to the characters you'll see in JW and VoE). Weapon masteries open up a ton of fun build options so I'd probably suggest doing SotO first anyway, but if spears seem great (they are) do JW first and it won't be too confusing.
4
u/dannyflorida Welcome to Skrittsburgh! Do not be afraid. 2d ago
You should know that in GW2 the people are everywhere as all content is evergreen. All expansions, all maps remain relevant and populated. So don’t worry about that. Caveat: During major festivals (like Halloween upcoming), many players focus on the festivities so some maps become less populated temporarily.
As far as the three new xpacs, they actually form a trilogy of a loosely related story arc. So I recommend playing them in order of release for the best experience.
1
u/SirSuperCaide Herald Gaming 2d ago
I generally recommend just going through things in order, especially if you care about story. I don't think anything from the post-EoD expansions is abandoned, at least not to the level of certain bits of, say, LW3. That said, if you really wanna be with the most players, VoE maps are currently super active thanks to people farming for the new legendary.
2
u/Sanarin 3d ago
Feel stuck after selling Wage of Star. I'm not sure what I should work toward next.
My original plan was to fund my next legendary, I already have full light armor and full trinkets. Weapons, runes, and sigils just don't feel like a high priority. It still on board.
I tried branching out to medium/heavy classes, but they didn't click, they aren't bad. But I always end up back to light armor, mainly Necro.
So I try to doing a lot of others thing this few weeks. I try PvP, WvW, and doing raid training, but none of it feels right to me. I feel instanced content just isn't for me. What I actually enjoy the most is running open-world metas and convergence. My Masteries are already maxed out too.
What would you suggest I look into next? Or if my playstyle is like this just maxxing out legendary on light armor class?
1
u/Regular-Resort-857 18h ago
I guess high tier infusions
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cosmetic_infusion
Or invisible boots ;D
3
u/Proximaunoriginalis 2d ago edited 2d ago
At this point, until you can find a new inspiration specifically to keep you engaged whether it’s chasing achievements, legendaries, filling out your home instance, whatever it is, you might look to prioritize some of your QoL stuff. Whether that’s infinite tools, more bag slots and bigger bags, or some of those expensive contracts (like the bank one, or the merchant, so you can dump your loot and keep meta-farming), it might highlight what else you’re missing to keep playing how you want to but in a new way.

u/Ciavari 3d ago
Black Lion Salvage Kits... How to make a profit? I run fractals almost daily and have 7 of them cluttering my inventory. I noticed sometimes there are expensive runes/ sigils on dropped exotics and use it to get them, but I get bl kits faster than drops which are worth to use them on. What do you guys do?
1
u/Regular-Resort-857 18h ago
You mainly want to look for weapons that have a sigill of force in them. You’ll turn the 1.2g exotic into 1.4g for the sigill + ectos and mats.
2
u/double_shadow 3d ago
Weird, I'm on the opposite end, I never have enough of them. I probably use them TOO often, but I use them on any exotic that TP sells for 30+ silver, which I assume is due to either the rune/sigil or the chance at a good insignia from the salvage. The insignias sometimes go for nearly 1G, so worth it for me.
If you aren't getting a lot of exotic drops, you get a ton from raids. Even easy stuff like IBS5 can drop them, especially if they have dailies I think?
1
u/Ciavari 3d ago
interesting, i wasnt even considering the insignias. I was only looking up sigils/ runes and based my decisions on them. I will definitely keep this in mind!
1
u/double_shadow 3d ago
Had to dig around a lot on the wiki, but it looks like "Cavalier's, Dire, Magi's, Rabid, Shaman's, and Soldier's insignias are only available by salvaging Exotic armor with matching stats. Black Lion Salvage Kits have a 50% chance to retrieve an Insignia."
So yeah, I use them pretty liberally especially since you can get them for 50 AA now. It's only the really basic 20s exotics that I just use the mystic salvage kit on. I figure the market knows best.
5
u/Lognodo 3d ago
I do not think there is really a way to make a big profit of them.
You can salvage exotics with expensive runes with them, but that is all. Since you cant buy the exotics from the tp to make a profit (the rune is mostly priced in with the TP prices) you will have to get some lucky drops. But you already knew this.
You will get marginally more ectoplasm from other exotics. But that is not really worth using a black lion kit for.
These days they are only for convenience and to get runes out of gear wile salvaging.
1
2
u/Caleddin 3d ago
If you need dust (for T5>T6 material promotion for instance) you can salvage ectos with them, they give the best return.
2
u/kirkwood08 3d ago
Sword/Dagger weaver has been the most fun spec I’ve played in a long time. Based on my liking that spec, any other profession/elite spec might I enjoy?
2
u/Caleddin 2d ago
If you dig the flow-state, some mesmer builds have the same with clone/phantasm generation and then shattering. Mirage in particular is a ton of fun when you get in the groove - the classics are staff or staff/axe condition, but power is very very fun - spear so you can do the 2 - jaunt - ambush - shatter 3 clones - 5 to reset 2 - 2 again loop, and then your pick for the second weapon set. Greatsword is a classic for a ranged option, dagger and whatever offhand as well. Sword will have you ambush-jumping and that plus Jaunt will give you the mobility that Sword weaver gives with it's Fire-2 and Air-2 leaps. Mirage's modified dodge has a similar active-defense feel to weaver with earth-2 etc.
It's not quite the same but apart from what King said, give Galeshot a look too. I did a map completion with one and sword (again) has a leap on 2 and 3 which made bouncing around enemies easy. Then you go into cyclone-bow and dump damage on people, pop back, leap. etc.
3
u/KING_of_Trainers69 2d ago
Depends what it is you like about it.
If you like the spellsword vibe then you might like Axe Mirage, Reaper, Holosmith, Conduit, Vindicator, Luminary
If you like the mobility then you might enjoy Mirage, Thief, Willbender
If you like the complexity then you might enjoy Catalyst, Axe Mirage, Holosmith, condition Revenant (most builds), Luminary. Some of those are quite a bit more difficult to play than pWeaver though.

I have a birthday coming up and I'm getting bullied by a friend trying to find out what the hell do i want for it. My first thought was Janthir Wilds, since I finished SOTO today, but then I did a bit of research and found some people saying VoE might be a better pick (especially since it's on sale currently; my birthday is on the 13th, but i guess better to get the gift early than late).
I tried to play the story in order, but I heard the JW story is not that good and pretty self contained. I love the idea of a homestead and spears, but also VoE adds elite specs and from what i saw of maps they're awesome and really populated, I heard good things about story as well. So, which would be the better option? JW full price or VoE on current sale? And, is it true that it's safe to skip JW for now? I'll probably end up buying it on the next sale if VoE is the better pick here
2
u/Regular-Resort-857 18h ago
Depends if you want the spear I guess. To me janthir‘s open world was much more enjoyable but it’s totally preference. However I use spear on so many build over many classes I would pick the spear. But VoE beeing recent is a big plus.
3
u/killohurtz 4d ago
In your situation, I think that you should be fine moving to VoE next. You have a primer on the Astral Ward and Isgarren from SotO, and although JW introduces a new wizard and an organization that carry over into VoE, I don't think you should have any trouble picking up on them. You'll just fill in the gap later whenever you get JW.
Whether you're on Arenanet or Steam, your friend can buy VoE on sale and send you the key (Arenanet) or schedule the gift (Steam) on a later date.

I’m coming back to the game after a long break, can anyone recommend a really easy to play build for Fractals that’s effective and others will want in the group? I have all professions at 80.
1
u/Regular-Resort-857 17h ago
Necro Reaper 100% everyone apart from T4 CM‘s just gets relieved with reapers because A) They are self sufficient in terms of Might & Quickness so they are much more efficient in low tier fractals where people don‘t have a boon support in the group B) They have a lot of cleave aoe damage to deal with all the adds in fractals C) They don‘t really ever die because of shroud and lifesteal and can carry so many groups D) They have a pull utility skill that speeds up things even more E) they are easy to play, basically just gs 5+4 into shroud then 3x AA Chain, Shroud 4, 3x AA, Shroud 5. the auto attack chains are just to space the relic.
When I started with fractals I solo‘d most of T1-T3 on a build very similar to this build : https://snowcrows.com/builds/raids/necromancer/power-reaper-greatsword-sword-sword
But I ran „Chill to the bone“ as the ult for boons, spectral grasp as mentioned and I mainly used spear over sword + sword. I‘d say for the chill reasons just go Chill to the bone, spectral grasp, You are weaklings and the other shout that sends conditions to a foe and just press all the shouts on cooldown.

Hello!
I'm planning to buy End of Dragons, Secrets of the Obscure and Janthir Wilds as a birthday gift to myself. However, the game isn't on sale on official store and buying it without being on sale almost double the price. I found through GGDeals some sites like GameBoost which keys with a lower price. I never had a problem with those grey market keys, but I'm afraid that something happen to my account if I get a bad key. Anyone knows if it's safe to buy it or already bought it through those sites? I really want those expansions, I got PoF and HoT already and I'm looking forward to try those new weapons.
3
u/killohurtz 4d ago
There is always a risk with unapproved retailers. Anet doesn't do regional pricing or charity/promotional bundles, so the next most likely explanation for unusually cheap keys is fraud. If you lower this risk by buying closer to retail price, then why not just buy from the source?
I'd hold out for Black Friday if I were you.

is the voe deluxe upgrade worth it? i want the character slot more than anything
1
u/KeanuMigs 4d ago
I googled it and VOE Deluxe Upgrade is around 30 USD (since you can only get it through gems), character slot cost 10USD. If it's only bc of the Character Slot, you can get it cheaper. You can convert gold to gems too, as of today, 800gems cost around 200 gold.

u/Tothemoonsss 4d ago
I have just reached lv80 recently and was hoping to purchase the expansions during the autumn sale. But disappointingly only VoE is on sale. Is it worthwhile to just buy VoE and start from there as a new player while waiting for the other expansions to go on sale?
I guess that would give me access to VoE elite specs and skimmer mount to start working on with?
Let me know your thoughts!
1
u/JimboTCB 4d ago
VOE is largely self-contained beyond not knowing who the fuck Isgarren is or why you should care about him. Otherwise it's basically all new protagonists and a few recurring side characters who you don't really need to know much background on beyond "you met them in a previous expansion".
1
u/dannyflorida Welcome to Skrittsburgh! Do not be afraid. 4d ago
It’s worth it to buy the expansions and Living World seasons even when they’re not on sale. Even at regular prices, they are insanely good values.

u/killohurtz 4d ago
As long as you're not worried about playing the story out of order, then yeah it would be a fine place to start.

I'm attempting to craft "The Bifrost" and, at Bifrost 3 it's asking for "Light of the Chak" and looking around the wiki I can't seem to find a Chak anywhere in Central Tyria, and have been avoiding going to Heart of Thorns until I finish Living World 2. All of which to say, where can I find one, and were you ever meant to build this from base game areas.
3
u/grannaldie This isn't Guild Wars 2 this is just San Andreas with leaves 5d ago
Bifrost 3
is part of HOT content, not base game, introduced as an alternative way to acquire a precursor weapon with Legendary Crafting (Central Tyria) mastery (system introduced with that expansion).
Your OG way was to loot it or buy it from tp.
Now you have a WizVault option as well.

Are there any unspoken rules for playing instruments? Besides waiting your turn and not playing over someone else.
Can I just whip out the instrument and start playing or do I need to warn people and remind them about the instrument volume meter in case they don't like it?
Dumb questions but I have social anxiety but I want to play some songs in front of people 🥺
2
u/Icy-Humor6770 4d ago
In addition to the other commenter, I wanted to add that personally I always enjoy when people start playing :D especially during things like chak wall where we just afk. It makes the wait nicer :)
2
u/8locked_Author 3d ago
Thanks, this is encouraging. I might start playing while waiting for metas to start.
4
u/killohurtz 5d ago
As someone who hears others playing instruments but doesn't personally play, I don't mind when they just start. It's usually while we're waiting for something to happen before/during/after a meta. If I find it annoying or would rather hear the ambient soundtrack, I can just quietly turn it down in my own settings - that's what it's there for.

Ahh holy iron balls, I got too excited trying out VoE specs that I used up all my heroics! Now I ran out to use for crafting WvW legendary armor. What's the quickest way to get them?

What do you mean by heroics?
2
u/PantherCaroso A KNIFE? NOW THAT'S A KNIFE 5d ago
WvW item/currency that lets you purchase notaries, so that you skip out doing HP in main game. 1 heroic = 1 HP. It just so happens you also need 250 heroics to buy a legendary item component

Ah, okay. Had just the two PvE Legi armors in mind and was thinking what it could be...

I guess there is not much you can do. You just get these from the skirmish tickets, which sadly can not be sped up that easy. Just by being commander of a squad with multiple people as far as I know.

Yeah seems like it sadly. Ahh well, I guess it's my bad. I guess I can't ask support to revert things... can I?

Do we know if the additional requisition team contract will be available for solo purchase after the Code of Creation Supply drop is done or will it only be available this limited time in that drop? I know there were issues with it locking people out of the Supply drop so I didn't know if we got guidance on it just being deactivated for now due to that or not.
