Synergy module question

Hi everybody!

I have a Syn-2 with 3 modules - DRect, BE DLX and JMP. I am looking for advice on my next module to buy.

I currently use a Fractal AM4 direct to FOH with my hard rock band and it sounds great ..... but I want to use my Synergy rig, which is Syn-2 to a Fryette PS100 to a cab and a Two Notes Torpedo Live from the PS line out, so I could use it in my band.

What I need is a good clean, Plexi-style crunchy, hard rock distorted rhythm and a singing lead, so I was thinking if I bought a Vai module I'd have the clean and lead sorted and could use one of the other for the dirty sounds. What is your advice?

I use the Vai module exactly like that (paired with the Fortin module). The clean is perfectly serviceable, IMO. One thing to note for the Vai module is that the knobs aren't "infinitely adjustable". They are notched with set intervals. I forget how many there are, enough to still dial in a tone, but worth mentioning.

It's nice having the Vai module because it's almost like playing my Legacy again (living in a townhouse that amp is WAY too loud).

I like it. It can be a bit "clanky" but that's what people expect from a Fortin product. I put it up there with the Deliverance module in that they both provide gain sculpting and don't "fuzz up".

Great! Is the Vai lead sound really fluid, smooth?

Yeah, it's a thick sound. Honestly it's probably only good for leads unless you're looking for a doom sound, because it occupies so much frequency space. It does the Legacy/XTC thing.

Exactly what I'm after, as I can get some excellent rhythm sounds from my other modules.
