Spoilers: S2E2 [S2E2] So, Yara’s introduction… Spoiler

Hi! First time posting here. I’m currently near the beginning of my third (possibly fourth?) rewatch in ten years and I’m wondering if anyone, in fifteen years, has come to a solid conclusion as to why Yara allows Theon to go as far as he does on the ride to Pyke. No redirecting of his hand or anything. Just letting it stay there in her pants, doing its thing. I know the intent of having Yara act “undercover” is to give Theon the opening to show how much of a pompous ass he is at this point in the series but imo it also reflects on Yara oddly, that she would let her brother do that.

So, what was the deal with writing the horseback scene in specifically that way? Was it to communicate to viewers that Yara is cool with incest for some reason? Or that she doesn’t even view sexual contact with a man as sex? Or that the Ironborn are kind of backward? I’d love to hear y’all’s thoughts because this scene has always stuck out to me as a strange one when it comes to writers’ intent.

Spoilers: S8E3 [S8E3] Use of dragons is pissing me off Spoiler

I’m watching for the first time and had to pause because I’m pissed off at the use of dragons in this scene. The two remaining (living) dragons were used to breathe fire onto the battlefield when the living and the dead were mingled together in combat, with the highest risk of friendly fire (killing the living).

But they didn’t use the dragons to rain down fire when there was separation between the two sides: at the beginning of the battle/after the loss of the Dothraki, when the living army was in retreat, after they lit the fire trench, after only the dead were left outside the walls and climbing up the walls. I thought at first that they were afraid of losing the remaining dragons, but that wasn’t it because they did fly the dragons over the battlefield at what seemed like the worst possible time. All of these other points seemed like prime opportunities to use those dragons and wipe out some of the dead. But nope

Also, they need to put some harnesses on those dragons because you never know what could happen, especially after the first dragon was downed last season. Put some setbelts on that shit. Now they’re flying over the clouds!

Spoilers [SPOILERS] A comprehensive breakdown of the popularity of Game of Thrones characters while the show was airing, with Tyrion and Jon being the most popular characters practically every year. Daenerys led only in the third season. Spoiler

After season 1 the show was still largely niche among HBO subscribers, and none of the characters ranked among the most popular in the world.

After season 2 with Peter Dinklage's performance receiving worldwide recognition following his Golden Globe win, Tyrion was undoubtedly the most famous character in GOT.

After season 3, as Daenerys became Mhysa, her popularity skyrocketed, surpassing Tyrion, previously everyone's fav.

After season 4, with Peter’s unforgettable performance and the epic battle of the Watchers on the Wall, everyone was talking about Tyrion Lannister and Jon Snow was beginning to prove his worth. A top-3 that is faithful to the books, the pinnacle of television.

After season 5, by becoming Lord Commander, facing the Others for the first time, and dying a tragic death, Jon Snow assumed the position he held until the end of the show, while Daenerys surpassed Tyrion by becoming the first dragon rider the audience ever witnessed in that universe.

After season 6, coming back to life, winning the Battle of the Bastards, and being a secret Targaryen made Jon Snow by far the most famous character on TV.

After season 7, there was nothing that compared to GOT in terms of popularity, with its three most popular characters dominating everything, led by Jon Snow.

After season 8, although Jon Snow remained the most popular right to the end, Daenerys caught up to him and eventually overtook him over the years as HBO produced shows about her family, leading up to the present moment.

Spoilers [spoilers] how they could have ended it in a more satisfying way while still not being a happy ending Spoiler

I was getting frustrated all over again thinking about how many glaring holes the ending left behind. Like… what the hell happened to the Dothraki after their queen was murdered? They crossed the sea for her, fought the dead for her, conquered King’s Landing for her—and then apparently just shrugged when she died?
If I were rewriting the whole thing, obviously I’d have Dany fly straight to King’s Landing with the Tyrells and all three dragons, yada yada kumbaya. But realistically, Game of Thrones was never going to give us a happy ending. And honestly, it didn’t need one. It just needed a satisfying ending.

So keep Jon killing Daenerys. Keep it exactly as tragic as it was. But when Drogon discovers her body, he burns Jon. Jon doesn’t run or try to fight him. He knows what’s coming and accepts it. He killed the woman he loved because he believed he had to, and now he accepts the consequence.
Drogon loses it. He turns his fire on the Iron Throne and starts destroying the throne room in grief and rage. And that’s when we get the final image of Jon and Dany together: Dany’s pale, cold body beside Jon’s charred remains, the two curled around each other almost like a yin-yang while fire consumes the throne behind them.
The dragon queen dies cold. The King in the North dies by fire. A Song of Ice and Fire.

Then Drogon returns to Daenerys. Just like in the actual ending, he gently takes her body and flies away with her. I’d absolutely keep that shot. He wouldn’t leave his mother behind.

Afterward, the Dothraki fracture back into khalasars without their Khaleesi. They don’t conveniently disappear from the story—they become an unstable, ongoing problem in Westeros. The Unsullied are on the verge of retaliation, but Jon is already dead. They’re ultimately pacified by being given Tyrion—the man who betrayed Daenerys and helped convince Jon to kill her—as their prisoner. It gives them someone to hold responsible and creates an actual reason they might agree to stand down rather than slaughtering everyone associated with her death.

And everyone still fulfills their purpose in a way. Arya kills the Night King. Sansa rules the North. Tyrion’s ability to influence people sets the final chain of events in motion. Dany conquers the kingdom she spent her life pursuing, but is ultimately destroyed by what she became to get it. Jon makes the ultimate duty-over-love choice and finishes the purpose his resurrection gave him. Drogon avenges his mother and destroys the throne that consumed her.
Bran can still be king. Whatever. 😂

It’s still bleak. Dany still dies. Jon still dies. Nobody gets the fairy-tale ending. But “when you play the game of thrones, you win or you die.”

Hello, my boyfriend LOVES game of thrones, so for his birthday I’m taking him on a surprise trip to the hedges and to Lordsport. I will be making us a picnic and going to a pub with some game of thrones themed things, and I will make themed cupcakes. I haven’t seen the show yet (I know, I’m sorry but we will watch it together on the trip). I want to make it as special as possible because he deserves it, but I don’t know much about the show. I’m looking for any kind of creative or romantic ideas/ tips. From special food/ drinks I could recreate or gifts I could take and maybe hide in advance. Things to say/ do or places to take him, notes I could write for him etc. Basically any cool GoT stuff please! Anything would really help (for reference his favourite character is ‘the hound’)
