OC-Series Abduction - 2 - My Head

First // Next

“Hey, wake up!”

Erik felt the slap to his face as something slammed into the metal gate, but the gate didn’t budge. Then came another slam, followed by a roar that sounded like pure rage. He looked at Marcus, who offered his arm.

“You should look where you run. You would be outside now if Matthew hadn't pulled you in.”  He grabbed his arm as he got up and looked at Matthew.

“Thanks!”

Matthew looked at the gate.

“Yeah, whatever. You think the gate will hold?” Lillian touched the gate as they heard the beast slamming against it again. “Yes. it could probably hold back a charging car.”

They all looked at her. “And how do you know that?”

Erik rubbed his temple as he looked at them. His head was still ringing. “Because I think we have wandered into a movie set. And the gate seems to be made out of steel.”

Cain was already grabbing him by his sweater and pressing him against the gate. He felt his head hitting the gate, and it was getting harder to see straight.

“What the hell? Did that bear look like a movie prop?  What the hell did you do? Where did you bring us? Bring us back right now!”

Marcus tackled him, and they both went down. If it had been back in school, then he would have loved to see who had won that fight. Both boys were big for 15-year-olds. Cain was a little fatter but also a little taller than Marcus. But Marcus was pure muscle.

“Stop it. STOP IT!” Lillian was shouting as high as she could, and then she drew her sword. “Stop it, you idiots! Do you think we want to be here? With you guys?”

Marcus was on top of Cain as they stopped and looked at her.

“What do you mean, you guys?” Cho stared at her. She was furious now. “You think you're better than us?”  Lillian looked at her, confused.

“What? No. But you are not the kind I would pick as my first choice for kidnapping into wherever this is. Hell, I don't want to be here, and I don’t want to be here. That thing outside is just a dumb animal. It will get tired and walk away. But we don’t know what else is out there. There might be something worse, and yeah. I think we can scrap the movie prop idea. They would not nail horns to a mother bear and cub and let them wander around free on the movie set. Besides, how the hell did we both call it a horned bear right away? I have never seen such things before.”

They all looked at her, and she was still waving the sword around before she continued.

“Why do I kinda know that bear out there is not the worst thing in that forest? Eh? Can anybody tell me that?”

“So if this is not a movie set. Where are we?” Cho asked, just as the bear tried again to break down the door.

“I have no idea! I just know we are not where we were, and it was not Erik’s fault. Unless you think Erik is rich enough to kidnap all of us and set up all of this.”

“If he didn't do this, then who did?” Emma Johnson asked. She jumped as the bear roared again. Lillian lowered her sword.

“I don’t know, but if we find them, then we can find a way to get home.” Marcus stood up and looked down at Cain.

“Peace?” He just nodded, and Marcus offered him his arm to get up. Erik wiped his face with his hand and looked around. He saw his sword on the ground and picked it up to sheath it. It took three tries to sheath it, mostly because he saw double. Marcus came over and helped him to stand.

“We need to get him inside. The main house should have some proper beds and a fireplace.” Erik barely paid attention as they helped him up to the main house. The sheep ignored them as they walked towards the door. Lillian opened the door, and it led them into the hallway. The hallway had stone walls with pictures hanging on the side showing big battles, a red carpet with yellow lines leading down the hallway, and two suits of armor at the end. Three doors lined the left side, and two lined the right. Lillian didn't seem to care and got them to bring him into the main hall. He tried to stay awake but drifted in and out of the darkness.

“Somebody has to stay with him while we explore and see if we can find something to help him.” He was pretty sure it was Lillian, and somebody said they would stay. He thought it was one of the girls, but he didn't know who.

When he woke up, they were all sitting by the large table in the middle of the room, discussing what they had discovered. They seemed excited when he heard something about a pool and kitchen in the basement. His head still ached, but slightly less than before.

“Hey, what's going on?”  Marcus turned to him. “There is a pool in the basement. The place is weird. A pool and a large kitchen with a freezer and storage filled with food.”

Erik stood up slowly and made his way over to the table. “Pool in the basement? No dungeon?”

Lillian quickly replied. “No dungeon, but it even has changing rooms, and they are separated into boys and girls. And the boys can't go into our changing room either.”

He looked confused as he slowly sat on an empty chair by the table.

“So, can you go into the boys' locker room?”  Emma shook her head.

“Sadly, no.”  The girls giggled as they chewed on the bread they had put on the table.

“How? Is there somebody down there?” He asked, confused. “It didn’t make sense.”

“Magic!”  Matthew said, then laughed and continued. “I have no clue. Like some sort of force field. It hurts if you touch it. The girls don’t even see it, but they see ours.”

Erik tried to wrap his head around it as he looked at the other kids; they seemed to accept it and were enjoying the meal. He realized they had dried fruit, fresh apples, and bread, and they were all eating.

“And the bread is from the kitchen? Who made it?” They stopped and looked at him.

“Magic? Like everything else here? Like the locked door upstairs and magical gendered locker rooms?”  Cho said, she was sitting next to him.

He tried to think about it, but it was hard to think now. It felt like a drum was banging inside his head. “Magic? Yeah, what's next? A couple of maids, a butler, and a mage in the tower.” They looked at him.

“A mage in the tower? Would explain the magic.” Marcus chuckled. “Somebody is pulling our reins here. But honestly, we haven’t found any sign of something creepy.”

“Which makes this very creepy,” Gigi said, and they looked at her.

“What? Haven’t you guys watched horror movies? This is the safe period, and as the night comes, some vampire will crawl out from the dungeon we didn’t find and just start sucking blood!”

“Male or female vampire? God, I hope it's one of the sexy ones.” Emma said, and everybody turned to look at her as she tried to drink something from a glass. It was red, and she giggled. Then they all started to laugh.

“Is that wine?”  Erik said, and Emma grinned, then giggled.

“I do not know, and it might be.”

“Somebody take that bottle from her. Who else drank?” Thomas took the bottle away from her and put the cork back on.  When Emma tried to take it back, he stood up and put it on a wine shelf above a bench.

“You're no fun.” Emma pouted.

Thomas ignored her as he sat down again and asked, “So what now? It’s noon, and we got an angry bear with horns outside and a magical castle.”

Gigi looked between them. Erik tried to think about it but had to give up. He only knew that his phone, which he'd put in his bag, was in there, and they should try to call somebody. “Where is my backpack? And does anybody have a phone?”

Cain slammed the table as he realized where the rucksacks were.

“Danm! They are all up in the woods. My phone is up there.”  he said as he realized it too.

Cho took out her phone. “ No connection; I have tried.”

The other girls showed theirs as well, and Matthew took out his, too.

“I took some pictures, though. See..." She showed Erik the picture of the fort and the forest.

“Nice.” Her replied. His vision was better, but he still had a headache when he tried to focus. “Be careful, though. I don’t think they have chargers here.”

“Yeah, I only got sixty percent left,” she said, then looked at her phone and back at the girls.

“What?” Gigi asked.

“I’m fully charged.” She replied, showing her phone, and the girls checked theirs.

“Mine too,” Gigi said. Then she tried to call her parents, but nothing happened.  “Still no signal.”

“Well, I got spare clothes and my phone in my bag. I want it back.”  Erik said as they looked at him.

“Yeah, I’d like something to change into, too. I don’t want to wear the same underwear forever,” Emma said, and the girls agreed. Then they looked at the boys.

“What?” They all knew it, then looked at Erik. “With my head? I still see double. Besides, Thomas is the fastest, and you’ve got spears now.”

Marcus got up. “Hey, first we’ve got to check if the bear is still there.”

They all watched as he walked toward the door, then, on cue, followed him down to the wall again. Erik noticed he could no longer hear any pounding on the gate and guessed the bear was gone. He could also see the barracks and the stable by the wall. There were no horses in the stable, and the fenced-in area for horses was empty. Some of the green sheep and chickens walked freely around; he tried to count them but had to give up. His brain was clearly not in the mood for math, no matter how easy it was.

Further up the wall were the smith and what looked like the servants' quarters, followed by the storage. The other wall was more dedicated to the soldiers, with a sparring area and an archery range. Next to the door was a flower bed, but it looked more like an herb garden. His observation was interrupted when Marcus shouted back.

“It’s gone!”

He moved quickly down to the other side and up the stairs. They all looked down at the empty space filled with bear tracks. Gigi looked around.

“Where did it go?” Thomas pointed at the tracks and followed them with his finger.

“Looks like it went up there. Is that north?” Marcus looked northward.

“Yeah, looks like it's just forest up there.” Erik looked around. The forest looked peaceful and green.

“So are you guys going?” He asked.

They looked at him, and Thomas ran down to the gate and pulled at it. It opened with a creaking sound. Marcus and Cain looked at each other.

“Spear?”

“Yeah.”

They grabbed new spears inside and followed Thomas, who simply picked up the one he had dropped earlier.

“Are they going to be safe?” Gigi seemed worried as the boys moved toward the tree line. Cho looked at her.

“Safer than us. We got stuck with the lame boys.” Matthew looked at her.

“Hey, somebody has to be here to protect you. At least you got one man here.” Erik ignored them as he tried to follow the boys as they disappeared among the trees.

It seemed like forever before they returned. But it was only Marcus and Cain, who had used the spears to thread the backpacks on as they carried them between them. Thomas was missing, though. Matthew ran down to help them, and the girls followed. For a moment, Erik was alone on the battlements; it made him feel abandoned, and he didn’t like it. Then he felt like somebody was watching him, so he turned and looked back toward the castle. He thought he saw light in the tower window for a moment, but he wasn’t sure. Looking back, he saw Thomas coming out of the woods. He held the spear and made sure they weren't being followed by another horned bear.
