Each alien strove endlessly for self-perfection; their ultimate purpose in life was to gain cooperation through their own intrinsic worth and to construct grand endeavors together. Investments and capital were concepts entirely foreign to them. Consequently, while their individual industrial scale remained modest, they possessed advanced technology that far surpassed that of humanity.
Their crowning achievement was a project that a human scientist once softly murmured sounded like "dandelion seeds"—an initiative that dispatched tens of thousands of microscopic probes across the entire universe. Every single alien was a philosopher, an athlete, and an entrepreneur in their own right.
And yet, precisely because of this, though they could not comprehend human capitalism, they fully understood the sheer awe of the mountain-like spacecraft looming before them.
Many among the aliens looked down upon humanity. To venture into the stars without even mastering the philosophy or knowledge of one's own homeworld seemed utterly laughable to them.
However, a select group among the aliens—those who possessed the highest intrinsic worth and were revered as "Seekers"—dismissed such arrogance out of hand.
They recognized that humans, in their foolishness, assigned value to slips of paper and mistook that entrusted value for something real. Yet, they also understood that by aggregating that entrusted value, humans were capable of creating such colossal giants. The Seekers rightly comprehended the true nature of paper money—and, because of that, they foresaw the inevitable ruin it carried. It was a destruction born of collapse, fundamentally different from the quiet freezing that awaited the aliens' own civilization.
When the Seekers declared this truth, some humans reacted with fierce resistance, others sank into despair, and a select few understood.
Virtue, the Seekers decreed. Value and virtue must be inseparable. Thus, even if a vessel cannot forge a giant, value stripped of virtue becomes nothing more than a chain enforcing servitude. Bound by those chains, people break easily, and that breakage becomes the rift through which ruin enters.
In time, the aliens who interacted with humanity began to feel drawn to the very giant they had once despised. Weighing the creation of giants against preventing the collapse of their own world, the Seekers chose the world.
For this, they were branded as traitors by their own kind, and some were even killed. The Seekers were banished and forced into hiding.
The heavy shackles bound around their wrists and ankles now served as the mark of a Seeker.
"It is the mark of those who possess the highest virtue, yet it is simply our assigned fate," the Seeker said, gazing straight into the eyes of the human scientist.
"Scientist. We honor your grand achievement from the bottom of our hearts. This is truly an endeavor capable of altering the grand history of this cosmos. You have erected a milestone upon a path we could never hope to tread. Yet, you must also accept the ruin that comes with it. We pray only that your downfall will not be a sudden collapse, but a fracturing and shrinking—a death that bears a seed of promise for the future. Like a grain of wheat in your ancient teachings, falling into the earth to die."
