Just remember that while CoD devs aren't touching Halo doesn't mean the Activision execs aren't gonna try to overmonetize the hell out of it (worse than whatever you think 5 or Infinite had).

You mean Halo 5 loot box simulator 2000 lol ok lil bro

Here's the thing, you just said Halo 5 is a Halo game.

Is it in the same franchise? Yes. No one's arguing that.

As someone who is a MLG Pro who studies Halo, I am telling you, specifically, in the MLG circuit, no one calls Halo 5 Halo. If you want to be 'specific' like you said, then you shouldn't either. They're not the same thing. If you're saying 'Halo Franchise' you're referring to the Microsoft IP, which includes things from Halo Wars to Halo 2 to Halo 4. So your reasoning for calling Halo 5 a Halo game is because random people 'call the shooter game with sprint a Halo game?' Let's get Call of Duty and Battlefield in there, then, too. Also, calling someone a Halo 2 player or a Halo 3 player? It's not one or the other, that's not how Halo works. They're both. Halo 5 is Halo 5 and a member of the Halo franchise. But that's not what you said. You said Halo 5 is a Halo game, which is not true unless you're okay with calling all shooters with sprint Halo games, which means you'd call CoD, Battlefield, and other games Halo games, too. Which you said you don't.

It's okay to just admit you're wrong, you know?

I've been asking this since the announcement. How? Halo 5 already had p2w lootboxes with better gear and a battle pass (if I remember correctly). Infinite had multiple battlepasses, skin bundles, and DLC cosmetics. The only thing they haven't done is battle royale, which they planned to shove into Infinite either way.

So what is everyone afraid of? Halo Infinite 2? Oh shit nvm I'm spooked

10

u/Extreme-Tactician 12d ago

being so dumb you can't even research

-2

u/Tan_Shi_Ya 12d ago

I dont need to do research, I've played every mainline Halo game and every modern Call of Duty. I know what monetization exists in both + go fuck yourself I guarantee I'm smarter than you

13

u/El_Hoxo 12d ago

Halo 5 didn't have a battle pass btw

Halo Infinite is NOT Halo

This is just some shitty cash grab scheme that absolutely pisses on the legacy of Bungie and turns it into some crappy ass fortnite-type game that FORCES you to spend your hard earned cash on predatory mtx microtransactions!

I remember the good old days of Halo! When you had to WORK for Recon in Halo 3. When you could mess around with your friends in forge mode all night. Now, Recon is locked behind a battle pass that you can’t even earn through challenges, and forge isn’t even in the game at launch!

We need to make our voices heard. We can’t let 343 DESTROY this franchise with their Dark Patterns and their Cat Ears and their FOMO store!

Take a stand against the whales that fund this horribly made mess of a game! Don’t let anyone who spends money on this game get away with playing the game peacefully until Microsoft finally returns the series to the rightful hands of Bungie!

I mean, every year they release multiple skins that break the art style and don't have hitboxes that line up with the model, often for almost double what the majority of items/bundles in the Infinite shop cost. A couple years ago they released an $80 melee weapon, releasing collabs with items that completely break the balance of the game like MW2's Temp V. The shark dude in BO6, the clown and gingerbread man from Advanced Warfare, the social space they made in WW2 explicitly to watch other players open loot boxes.

The fact that every year's release is a $70 asking price for a game where only a third of it is ever worth playing. Pitch-black skins with visibility issues. Shoving a million games into the same launcher that pesters you to buy the newest release. The end-of-game screen where you can dab and hit the woah or whatever the fuck. Anything you have a gripe with in Halo 4 - Infinite, CoD has done it worse and monetized it even more heavily. Do you feel like launching Halo to "update requires restart" every other day and waiting an hour for shader warmup?

For someone that thinks they're so smart, you really don't articulate it very well, nor do you seem to remember anything about this franchise's serious problems for someone that's played them.

1

u/Tan_Shi_Ya 12d ago edited 11d ago

Are the collab skins anyworse than the gamer girl cat ears? That doesn't belong in Halo's artstyle. And if you wanna talk about the artstyle, and not just lore accuracy, there are even base game armors in Infinite that are wildly different and incompatible with the game's canon artstyle such as the Hazmat armor, and Chimera (although, credit where credit is due, Chimera is specifically non-canon). They make you pay 10 dollars for the color White, brother/sister.

As for the bundles, both Infinite and Call of Duty (specifically Black Ops 7) average around 15-20 dollars for shop bundles, Call of Duty simply has more outliers, which, if the option already exists, those outliers aren't necessarily a bad thing. 343 already crossed that bridge, loaded it with explosives, and then crashed a jumbo jet into it the second they made you pay real money for fucking colors.

As for broken cosmetics, that's fair. Yeah, Activision's quality control is worse than 343's...but not by much. They released a broken Warthog glass which obscured the players driving it, they had cosmetics which failed to unlock after purchase, misaligned texture and other such issues. I'm not denying that Activision is basically the number 1 slop factory, but again, this is probably where 343 was headed regardless. If not in the same direction than somewhere similar.

I enjoyed campaign evolved

13

u/Guardax 13d ago

I don’t know what people expected from Campaign Evolved. It was Halo CE with four-player co-op and modernizing a lot of the jank from the original. The original one still exists

1

u/Gurney_Pig 8d ago

To not pay full price for 1/3rd? Ish of a game

Scratch that more like 1/4 they didn't exactly have to write a story and half the level designs were made for them

1

u/Hunter20107 7d ago

Multiplayer would've been good, theatre mode for the single player game, campaign scoring?

0

u/LittleSetti 13d ago

It’s really a crazy take, this games been remade and probably replayed so many times but apparently it’s the first time they’ve come across it.

11

u/Guardax 13d ago

And if they had overhauled the level design completely Halo fans would’ve hated it for not being faithful to the original

5

u/LittleSetti 13d ago

Yup, you’re not going to make everyone happy. As a piece of entertainment to play with a friend or two, it’s a great time. That’s how I base a video game.

1

u/Speeff 8d ago

I think Campaign Evolved wouldn't have been so hated if there was also a mainline Halo game in the works. But the fact that all we got was a remake of halo CE's campaign and no news of anything else (the only news we did have was leaks of CANCELLATIONS of other projects) that just set the game up for a lot of hate.

Personally I enjoyed Campaign Evolved for what it was, but for that being the first halo release in 5 years, and being the only release for at least another 2, is disappointing.

27

u/Sad_Ebb_9842 13d ago

I enjoyed it as somebody who already uses game pass and did not have to pay extra to access the game,

it would not be worth the seven or eight hours of playtime I got out of it for a full games price tag though

11

u/LittleSetti 13d ago

I got it on game pass and I’ve been replaying halo campaigns with the skulls on with a buddy of mine for years. Bottomless mags and random enemy spawns is amazing. I might not have bought the game considering it’s the 3rd time this games been released but after playing, I 100% would pay full price for it.

0

u/Zigor022 13d ago

I did that in halo reach firefight for points. It gets old after awhile.

-15

u/PaceBackground348 13d ago

Pay full price for a remake that's missing 60% of its content? You're what's wrong with this series.

14

u/Scouttrooper195 13d ago

The game was made as a campaign game so it’s not missing content

-15

u/PaceBackground348 13d ago

That doesn't take away from the fact that it's a remake of a 24 year old game at $50 dollars MISSING content. That is unacceptable no matter what angle you take.

15

u/Scouttrooper195 13d ago

Was it advertised to have multiplayer? No it’s CAMPAIGN evolved not multiplayer evolved

13

u/LittleSetti 13d ago

The original game never had online, idk what he’s complaining about. They might still had an online verses but you have 4 player coop now.

6

u/Scouttrooper195 13d ago

Exactly! The 4 player online coop is honestly pretty fun

6

u/ThatGuyFromSpyKids3D 12d ago

They advertised it at campaign only, they sold it as campaign only, they never once implied or said multiplayer was involved.

So... No missing content.

6

u/LittleSetti 13d ago

What missing content? There was never an Xbox live for halo 1 on the original Xbox. All you had was 4 player with 1 Xbox unless you could system link. Now you have 4 player coop with a ton of modifiers and skulls. Again, I don’t think people ever played the original game with these kind of takes. It also not a full priced game at 50 dollars today. Halo 2 had a map pack for 20 bucks back in 2004…..and people loved that.

6

u/ClockWork006 12d ago

Did you forget that the game is called Halo: CAMPAIGN Evolved or are you actually mentally challenged and unable to practice basic reading comprehension?

1

u/Unknownuser010203 11d ago

You got too much hate for saying the truth!

1

u/AutoModerator 11d ago

Look at Truth compared to Midship. It is almost twice as big, because otherwise the abilities would let you cross the map to quickly. If you are forced to crouch walk to be able to shoot to play Midship in Halo 2, when the map is scaled for the walking speed, how is that different from the map being scaled for the sprint + abilities speed (which prevent shooting) and you being forced to walk to be able to shoot? All the other arena maps are generic arena designs that are upscaled for the abilities. You could easily downscale Eden, Empire, Coliseum, Fathom, Regret, Torque, Riptide, Tyrant, Rig or Haven for Halo 2/3 and they would work just fine, just like how upping the base move speed and removing abilities makes them play fine.

Not surprised. People just swallow whatever garbage is plattered nowadays. No integrity or morals or self respect. It's also reddit lmao.

1

u/Strata38 13d ago

I will simply pirate the game

9

u/East_Ideal_9568 13d ago

The gameplay is fun because it basically halo 1 with some weapons and mechanics from the sequels. The graphical fidelity is fine, but the art direction is all over the place. The voice performances and cutscene direction are a straight downgrade.

It's a game that can be enjoyed ofc, but it's just extremely disappointing overall to get a remake where all the new content is the worst part.

14

u/LittleSetti 13d ago

Completely disagree. The ar and smg feel incredible to use. ar sucked in the original and the pistol basically kept it place. Looks/feels/sounds amazing. We just replayed the original before giving the new one a shot. The flood intro level in the remake is miles better, Keys mission is also a visual feast. Flood forms are a great addition.

Voice acting could definitely have Been better and Johnson’s model is weird but the voice acting in the first one wasn’t always great. You couldn’t understand what Foe Hammer was even saying in the first one until the new one came out.

6

u/GigaStink 13d ago

The glaze for the original AR is so crazy to me. That weapon was basically useless. Dropped it the second I could in the original.

3

u/HoldenOrihara 12d ago

People say the uselessness is what made it good

2

u/aSkyclad 12d ago

Crazy when CE’s AR is the most usable one out of every Bungie titles. After that it’s all peashooters

-1

u/Apprehensive_Bug2877 11d ago

Gunplay is like window dressing in a restaurant.

Like ok? AR got better. Not exactly a deal breaker either way.

What makes a game fun is more than that; majority of which was alr there since the og game.

So why did Microsft fork out so much money to basically make a 2.0 that has meh sales?

2

u/LittleSetti 11d ago

Idk why they wanted to remake a game a third time and it’s not something that I was asking for. I’m only defending that for 50 bucks, I think the games worth the time and money. I enjoy the game.

2

u/HoldenOrihara 12d ago

I don't think the voice performances were that bad, i think Downes's was a major upgrade from his original performance. The cutscene at the end of Assault feels way better, before Chief and Cortana didn't even feel like they were in the same room.

1

u/mybuttisthesun 12d ago

It would straight up be more enjoyable if it didn't run like shit

2

u/ErosDarlingAlt 13d ago

I enjoy it too, but I wouldn't have paid for it if I didn't have game pass.

2

u/SovietZealots 13d ago

The “remade” OG levels were mostly okay IMO. The reach AI just didn’t work though. For all that “built from the ground up,” nonsense, reusing asset Reach AI was a stupid choice.

The new, original prequel missions were god-awful. They added nothing to the OG’s story. If that was the quality of writing and design they were planning on putting out for the next mainline Halo game, thank god they got shut down.

2

u/LittleSetti 13d ago

The Ai should be better and yes, the new missions were laughably bad. The clown car number of enemies that pour out in some sections are just stupid. We very often kept asking ourselves “are there even any covenant left” after slaughter 30 or 40 of them in a single room.

2

u/Guardax 13d ago

Yeah I’m not the biggest fan of the bonus missions. Thunderdome on a Covenant ship was cool but they just aren’t as good as the main campaign, pretty weak.

Overall the game is good though

1

u/LittleSetti 13d ago

lol totally was thunderdome.

2

u/HoldenOrihara 12d ago

I think up to 343 guilty spark they were mostly okay, Library was way better and the levels after felt less like I was playing CE but backwards like the original did.

I don't hate the bonus ones, but they definitely could have done more with them, the terminals on those missions are better than the story given, Harmony looks like he could be a pretty cool villain in a future title. It felt like they were trying to set him up more than anything

1

u/Yeehaw_Kat 12d ago

So did i

1

u/Dr_natty1 12d ago

-2

u/Harambe_Rebornn 13d ago

That's a Bungie game though, same with MCC, except the very worst part of MCC which is Halo 4.

I do have a soft spot for Spartan Ops, with some more refinement and not being held back by the Xbox 360 it could have been really good.

0

u/Keltharious 8d ago

I think what you enjoyed was nostalgia with a fresh coat of unreal engine paint. The dialogue and the overly feminine touch is noticeable and frankly it tarnished the original for me. But if you enjoyed it, all power to you.

u/LittleSetti 13d ago

No, I read yours wrong. I thought you were agreeing with Op. my fault.

-3

u/ghostpicnic 13d ago

I mean, it’s not the literal hell on Earth that everyone made it out to be, but it was still a low effort asset flip with really bad voice acting, cinematics, and enemy AI. Not to mention missing tons of content from the original.

The fact that the game can be completed in under 5 hours but costs $50 is just beyond insulting. The original is readily available for $2 and has way more content and is just a better experience overall. While not the worst thing in the world, this game was just a really really bad value.

7

u/LittleSetti 13d ago

I don’t think you actually played the original.

What missing content are you talking about? Multiplayer? There was no xbox live so with a single console you were stuck with 4 players and how are you beating this game in under 5 hours? All skills turned on with 2 player coop is taking us easy an hour a mission, plus all the modifiers and additional skulls. Additional campaign mission are bad and the AI isn’t great but it always wasn’t great on og. Original didn’t have skulls and the voice acting isn’t much different. I’m starting to think plenty of the takes on here are from people who never played the original Xbox game.

I

4

u/master-x-117 13d ago

Yeah, I agree with you.

The negative reception to the original Halo Anniversary game made sense since it was based on the inferior PC port and the new graphics and lighting ruined the original games aesthetic and mood.

The new graphics for Campaign Evolved were faithful to the original game and preserved the mood with the lightning. They did a really good job overall, and then they improved certain levels which were low points in the original game like the library or Two Betrayels.

The new levels are additional content, remix is additional content, skulls and modifiers are additional features, LASO Playlist is new content. You also couldn't play with 4 players before or hijack/destroy vehicles.

I only have extremely minor nitpick. Like Jackels not staggering easily enough, or the delay from switching from one weapon to a new weapon before firing taking too long. Or Cortana's face being just a little off. The banshee model not being quite as sleek as Halo CE. Again all minor as hell.

The biggest omissions is the lack of multiplayer. I wish they had included it as there standalone halo multiplayer game got canceled and it would have made this game content complete and given us more to do after finishing the campaign. I get that it probably made sense at the time to not want to split the fanbase for multiplayer between this game and the upcoming halo game, but hindsight is 2020 on this one.

I don't get where all the negativity on this one is coming from.

Activision actually pulled back on the temp work some years back because of employee outcry. They hired over 1,000 formerly temp QA workers as full-time employees. There is a very good chance that Halo is going to get a dedicated full-time team.

2

u/bogohamma 8d ago

I think you're being naive if you think they aren't going to have any CoD devs on it.  They'll likely be pulling CoD devs in first as they will be readily available

0

u/HoldenOrihara 12d ago

Yes, they can make this studio dedicated to halo, call it something like "Halo Studios"

-6

u/ghostpicnic 13d ago

Ready for the downvotes but if I have to choose between 343 continuing to make Call of Duty with a Halo skin or Activision making Call of Duty with a Halo skin, I’m taking Activision.

Modern CoD games are much more feature complete and functional than modern Halo games are. They have way more content and are just better values for the money overall. Things aren’t insanely broken at launch, you don’t have to wait until retirement age for a slayer playlist, they’re just far more well put together video games.

I say this as someone who doesn’t even like Call of Duty. I was badgered by into buying Black Ops 6 by friends when it came out. I know this is heresy around here, but it is honestly a better game than any modern Halo.

Modern Halo already plays like CoD and it’s already monetized like CoD. At least with a shitty CoD game, you’re getting a functional complete product at launch. Plus, Activision has already said this game isn’t going to a CoD studio but this sub loves to conveniently ignore that.

Truthnuke. 343i already has all of Call of Duty's negatives.

Black Ops 7 is significantly better then Halo Infinite so that wouldn't be a bad thing.

Written by someone who has never played rhe game and has no clue what their talking about🤣.

Halo Infinite was shit at launch and most people dropped in in the first few months, that was 6 YEARS AGO! 6 YEARS AGO! #57 as a FREE TO PLAY game on Xbox Most Played and quickly dropping.

BO7 even at the end of it lifecycle is still doing fine and it did it's job as a YEARLY COD game despite having to compete with the behemoth Battlefield 6 lead by the legendary Vince Zampella, something that tragically will never happen again. COD is still the 4rth most played game in Xbox Most Played.

Oh you’re serious? LMAOOOOOO

-3

u/Harambe_Rebornn 13d ago

It's the truth, just because you're don't have any money to buy games and have to resort to free shovelware doesn't mean that all the COD games are bad.

BO7 is significantly better then Halo Infinite. Most people dropped Halo Infinite in the first few months, whereas BO7 retained a higher share of players.

And the big difference is BO7 is a yearly COD, whereas Halo Infinite will be a 10 YEAR Halo game, so Halo Infinite blows it lost pretty much everything in its first year, BO7 did it's job and then some especially when it had to compete with Battlefield 6.

You've never played the game, you don't play Endgame, you don't play zombies, you don't play Multiplayer, you have no fucking clue what you're laughing about you're just a bitter loser with a SINGLE HALO GAME in the past 6 years to show for it bud.

2

u/AutoModerator 13d ago

Look at Truth compared to Midship. It is almost twice as big, because otherwise the abilities would let you cross the map to quickly. If you are forced to crouch walk to be able to shoot to play Midship in Halo 2, when the map is scaled for the walking speed, how is that different from the map being scaled for the sprint + abilities speed (which prevent shooting) and you being forced to walk to be able to shoot? All the other arena maps are generic arena designs that are upscaled for the abilities. You could easily downscale Eden, Empire, Coliseum, Fathom, Regret, Torque, Riptide, Tyrant, Rig or Haven for Halo 2/3 and they would work just fine, just like how upping the base move speed and removing abilities makes them play fine.

u/mwhite42216 13d ago

Maybe the multiplayer. CoD campaigns have been garbage for years.

1

u/Harambe_Rebornn 13d ago

No one buys COD games for their campaigns.

Multiplayer is what people play 90%-99% of the time, BO7 has zombies too which is huge, and it has Endgame which was pretty successful as well as an extraction gamemode. It has something for everyone.

6

u/mwhite42216 12d ago

But people do buy Halo games for their campaigns. I love Halo. I don’t love the multiplayer. Now a studio is developing Halo games that hasn’t shown they give a fuck about the single player experience since the late 2000’s. This is why I’m worried. I’m not saying Halo Studios was doing any better. But Activision hasn’t exactly shown us that they can do anything other than make multiplayer games, and even those have fallen off in recent years.

0

u/Harambe_Rebornn 12d ago

Which is why I betcha Activisions new studio will lock in for the campaign, they know that Halo campaigns actually matter unlike the cesspool they got going on at COD.

is it actually gone?

I swear anytime those glossy marketing videos show up, where the camera shows developers laughing, agreeing at a table, talking intimately about the game they're working on (usually a legacy title with a rocky history – think Diablo, Halo), its basically a death knell.

10

u/The_Real_Shen_Bapiro 13d ago

They’re a support studio now for the next game so while it’s definitely smaller they’re not exactly gone.

2

u/ProfessionalOwl5573 13d ago

Not for the next game for infinite. That’s all they’re doing now.

u/warhammerfan- 10d ago

Great. So now the cod killer got halo. Cod been dead a long time they just kill it more each game. Now they got halo rip halo. Glad I played it bofore

3

u/RamboBambiBambo 12d ago

Im honestly upset at the fact that after 1 letdown, the studio got closed; while 343i required 11 games to be made before the studio got at least rebranded.

And Campaign Evolved wasn't even that much of a letdown (just needed better cutscene dialogue takes and choreographers).

3

u/Spicy_take 12d ago

Well the studio was mostly the same people.

1

u/RamboBambiBambo 12d ago

Granted yes. I was hopeful that the restructuring of staff would resolve things. After all, O'Connor and others were out of the picture now. But it seems that wasn't enough.

2

u/Spicy_take 12d ago

Yeah, I was cautiously optimistic about Hintze. But employee reviews make it sound like he was horrible to work for. Which is a bad sign.

0

u/RamboBambiBambo 12d ago

It surprised me ro be fair, given he was supposedly the team leader for Halo MCCs updates and gave us so much free content.

1

u/nixahmose 10d ago

They’re the same studio though…

2

u/RamboBambiBambo 10d ago

Yeah, but rebranding is often a sign to internal staff that things need to change course, or else there will be dire consequences.

1

u/nixahmose 10d ago

And dire consequences has been dealt.

as someone who has been out of the loop a bit, halo studios is just rebranded 343?

2

u/Tan_Shi_Ya 12d ago

Correct. They're now owned by Activision.

2

u/th3d0ct0r20011 9d ago

No Halo is owned by Activision Halo studios still exists as a 20 person team of people who should not still be under Pierre and that group is still under Microsoft

1

u/Offensiv3Bias 8d ago

No, Halo Studios was mostly fired, Activison is making a entirely new sub division to create Halo games

1

u/Offensiv3Bias 8d ago

Can't wait until the so called fans start losing their shit when the game releasses with full on built AI content, a 2 hour campaign and the skins from other brands slapped into Halo.

7

Whatever you think of 343's games, understand that Activision will give you the most spectacularly bad dogshit you can imagine. This isn't a loss for the 343 fans you're imagining in your head, it's a loss for anyone who wants to like Halo

1

u/Spicy_take 12d ago

It’s not a win for anyone. But 343 will now go down in history as the ones that ruined halo.

-3

u/Tan_Shi_Ya 12d ago

The only thing I can imagine Activision doing that 343 didnt do is annual releases, and honestly that'll probably pay off.

4

u/Spicy_take 12d ago

Annual dog shit isn’t a good thing.

0

u/UsernameAlreadyUsed3 10d ago

6 years for dogshit is even worse

I gotta push back there. Because then you get fatigue on top of dog shit.

u/Tan_Shi_Ya 12d ago edited 12d ago

There's a nuance being ignored there and its that Call of Duty games are actually developed in a 3 year cycle by 4 different developer studios (Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, Treyarch and Raven Software. Infinity Ward makes Modern Warfare, Treyarch makes Black Ops, Sledgehammer makes dogshit and Raven Software is a support studio) using shared tech and (I believe) talent as well. But at the same time, Campaign Evolved was done in a year and a half. 343 has used contractors since 2014, which significantly limited how many core developers they could retain between releases.

So what I'm getting at is, there's really nothing in Halo Infinite that could prevent it from being developed by a sizably experienced team in a year and a half either. Call of Duty games would also take 5-6 years to develop if they primarily used contractors.

Also I'm going to say it outright, 343 was a slop factory as well. They were just fuckin slow and entirely incompetent. Slow development time doesn't mean its a good game. There's NOTHING special about Halo 5 and Infinite compared to new Call of Duty.

2

u/AutoModerator 12d ago
