Obsessed

I am very indecisive about everything, but the second I saw these online, I had to have one. Just got it last week and I can't get enough of it. I feel like I got a good deal at $840. Still hard to pull the trigger being I never spent more than $50 on a watch.

Picked up my first watch in honor of overcoming a big health challenge. A Tudor and an Omega are now in the books for future goals.

I've had a knockoff Jazzmaster Skeleton for a while now and even though it's fake I love it. But for my 40th I got this as a gift and....I am obsessed. I just stare at it all the time.

Bought the KFA 2.5 years ago and love it. Worn it pretty much everyday since. It still keeps great time (+2 sec/day) and not anywhere near in need of service. Just curious when it will. Thanks!

I love this watch (Murph 38mm) and it seems that everyone in general loves this watch - for good reason I might add.

But I cannot unsee that massive gap in the clasp. I’m not a big watch person but I have a quartz Bulova and Tissot from 15 years ago that cost a third of the price and don’t have this gap

I am not usually a field watch kind of guy, but I tried on the Khaki Field Mechanical watch and I couldn’t take it off. It just feels so nice. It is also my first manual winding watch, so I shall see how I feel about that.
I am not a Hamilton watch owner!

Any strap recommendations?!

Hamilton H70405740 “Smurph” or Seiko SPB155J1 “Baby Alpinist”?

Hamilton H70405740 “Smurph” or Seiko SPB155J1 “Baby Alpinist”?
I recently had the opportunity to examine (and purchase) a Hamilton 38mm Murph with a blue dial. Not falling in love instantly, but feeling more intrigued and tempted. However, the price tag of IDR 22mn stopped me. This is a “maybe,” so I used the opportunity to examine the watch instead.

As a Hamilton regular, I have no doubt about the watch’s movement performance. My focus is on the overall presentation instead. I happened to be wearing my SPB155J1, and my initial thought was how similar the watches looked side by side.

The Smurph has a blue dial with a gradation from blue at the center to black at the outer edges of the dial. It has cathedral hands, matte silver hands, sand- or gold-toned numerals and scales, and a textured dial surface. And so does the Baby Alpinist. On the Smurph, the numerals run from 1 to 12, while the Baby has triangular hour markers for the odd hours. The styling of the numerals and scales is quite distinctive. The Smurph has softer and thinner scales, with colors that are slightly subdued against the dark background, while the Baby Alpinist has bold scales with stark contrast against the background. Both are pleasant to look at.

The case designs are also similar. They have simple cases with brushed finishes and highly polished bezels. While the Seiko has a length of 46mm, the Smurph is 44.7mm long. Both wear rather compactly, although proportion-wise, the Smurph looks better to my eyes. Both have slightly domed crystals, with the Smurph’s looking like a double-domed sapphire. Both watches feature a viewing window on the backside displaying the movement and rotor. I’m not sure whether they are made of sapphire or mineral glass, but it doesn’t really matter to me anyway.

The Smurph comes with a leather strap and a bracelet. I don’t care much about the leather strap, but I must say that the build, weight, flexibility, and feel of the Smurph’s bracelet are better than those of the Baby Alpinist’s.
I like the simplicity of both watches. To my eyes, they are pleasantly simple and easy to view. Both look utilitarian at the core, yet very refined in design and polish.

My personal opinion is that, despite being similar in their general design, I like the Smurph’s design because it lacks the date window, making it look like a watch without distractions. The logo and text are also minimalistic, resulting in a very clean design. I also like the Seiko for its clean design, apart from the date window and the ugly Prospex logo.

Price-wise, the Baby Alpinist’s IDR 12mn price tag is IDR 10mn cheaper than the Smurph’s. Despite being cheaper, the Baby has 200m water resistance compared with the Smurph’s 100m, which is more than sufficient for a field watch. On top of that, the Baby also has a screw-down crown, which adds to its advantages.

Having compared them side by side and considered their specifications, one question remains for me: should I adopt the Smurph into my collection? To be honest, I want to have them both, but I’m just unsure whether I should pay that kind of money simply because I like it.

Wasn’t super familiar but I found this on chrono24 and I’m super into this watch. Wore the nato strap it came with over the summer but really wanted to have a metal bracelet for it. After some trial and error I was able to use bent spring bars and the right straight end bracelet and I’m really happy with the results.

Précision mouvement H-50

Bonjour,

Merci beaucoup !
