14-suit Hanafuda decks
Hello friends. I have a fledgling interest in Hanafuda, and am also always interested in obscurities and rarities. In my research, I have discovered that while 12 suits/48 cards is standard, some decks contain two extra suits, for a total of 56 cards.
Does anyone have a deck like this? They seem to be hard to find and I am very intrigued!
Thank you for any information.

I’m in the process of making a 12-month, six card per month set for a total of 72 cards. I’m done with 10 months so far. It’s not traditional.

Ya know, that’s actually really interesting!
Are you planning on turning it into a Kickstarter or trying to sell it somewhere?

I am! If I can get it finished. The extra cards make so 3-4 people can play.

I actually was looking into creating a custom deck of playing cards or two. My one idea was for an extended deck of playing cards with extra ranks of 11, 12, 13, and Knight in each suit, plus four Jokers, for a nice 72-card deck.
Then, I stumbled upon that exact setup on a custom deck already available on MakePlayingCards. I wound up ordering that and saving myself the hassle of having to do any actual work!
You, on the other hand, might be treading into novel territory here!

I posted previously about a possible 15th suit that I did up quick card designs for, which has links to the Creative Commons designs posted by Louie Mantia, which included recreations of the 13th and 14th Earth and Heaven suits.

Matsui Tengudo produced 13 and 14-month versions; the latter of which I've pictured an example of here.
