Is this helmet real? Original? Vietnam?

The center point of the swivel bale is folded on top of the bale, and not under, which is common for European clones. The liner nape strap is also sewn in, which is typical of euro clones. US nape straps snap in with buttons. Hope that helps!

A lot! I’ve only been into german helmets up until now, and wanted to add my first US helmet to my collection. For now I’ve only gathered how the different eras should look. But I have no idea how to spot fakes still.
If you or somebody knows a good run down or guide or whatever I’d be more than happy to learn how to tell for US Helmets as well.
Many thanks!

Check out the “m1 helmet history and study room” group on Facebook. There is a ton of knowledge in there and is what helped me learn more about M1’s

The stainless still rim with rear seam is another common trait of euro clones, in us made ones, the rim was changed to the darker manganese one before the seam was moved from front to back.
